POPSCarbon Dioxide Emissions Outpacing Projections Pair this Washington Post story together with the item, clipped last night by my colleague Rebecca Ruiz, on impact of carbon overload on coral reefs. Further down in the Post story, James L. Connaughton, who chairs the White House Council on Environmental Quality, stresses the "need for a broader and more aggressive effort by the major economies to come together."

POPSOOPS! Gas Home Remedy Gas Definition All people have gas; it is natural and resulted by swallowing air and normal breakdown of certain indigested food by harmless bacteria. The frequent belching of the gas comes out by burping or passing it through the rectum. Most people pass gas about 14 times a day, the gas is made primarily of odorless vapor. The unpleasant odor of flatulence comes from bacteria in the large intestine that release small amounts of gases that contain sulfur. The gas can sometimes be uncomfortable and inconvenient; it can come from bloating of the abdomen after eating and is a result of certain habits or diet choices.

POPS"Einstein Fridge . ."
Now Malcolm McCulloch, an electrical engineer at Oxford who works on green technologies, is leading a three-year project to develop more robust appliances that can be used in places without electricity. Einstein refrigerator His team has completed a prototype of a type of fridge patented in 1930 by Einstein and his colleague, the Hungarian physicist Leo Szilard. It had no moving parts and used only pressurised gases to keep things cold. The design was partly used in the first domestic refrigerators, but the technology was abandoned when more efficient compressors became popular in the 1950s. That meant a switch to using freons. Einstein and Szilard's idea avoids the need for freons. It uses ammonia, butane and water and takes advantage of the fact that liquids boil at lower temperatures when the air pressure around them is lower. 'If you go to the top of Mount Everest, water boils at a much lower temperature than it does when you're at sea level and that's because the pressure i

POPSA thaw could release a flood of greenhouse gases Permafrost is defined as permanently frozen ground that remains at or below zero degrees Celsius for two years or longer. It contains organic material that typically decomposes slowly. But when permafrost thaws, bacteria and fungi break down the carbon contained in the organic matter much more quickly, releasing it into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide or methane -- greenhouse gases.

POPSOld forests absorb CO2 too; study They hold Carbon That will be released, when culled, they are also, contrary 'calculations', Not carbon Neutral. The Value of old growth forests can never be calculated, and are Priceless. POPSBlue skies, scorched Earth? What is Global Dimming? If we were to eliminate global dimming all together without addressing global warming the increase in temperature and extreme weather might be more significant than previously predicted. This has been recorded with one full degree temperature change in just a few days of decreased pollution in the days following the 9/11 attacks . This reverse effect of dimming has been has been blamed along with global warming for increasing temperatures, appropriately called global brightening . No one wants smoggy skies but it could be smog and particulates that may be shielding us from the full consequences of the greenhouse gases we pump into our air daily. Clear blue skies are something many folks thinks of when they think of “going green” but those clear blue skies may hold more heat than we can handle.

POPSUnited Nations Public Policy!!! Dum dee dum dummmmmmm!!!!
Blamed for about one-fifth of the world’s greenhouse gases, meat production produces the ever-popular ;) methane gas from the flatulence of cattle–something these vegetarians like to say is much worse for the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. Aren’t you merely speculating at best putting forth such bold statements about meat and global warming without any real evidence that makes your point? How can a group like the United Nations stand behind such an extreme position when the foundation for it is so incredibly suspect? Dr. Pachauri spoke at an event held by an animal rights group called Compassion in World Farming which has called on the people of Great Britain to cut their meat consumption in half to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by even more than if they cut their driving in half. In fact, they are pushing for governments around the world to mandate a reduction of meat consumption by upwards of 60 percent by the year 2020. Well, yippee freakin’ skippy!

POPSSHUN MEAT says UN Climate Chief 70% of arable land and more emissions than all the transport systems in the world - just so people can eat dead animals.. do you feel happy about that? ..unhappy enough to give up bacon? I doubt it, but go on -feel free to surprise me, and yourself!

POPSTodd Palin Digs into Job Creation for Alaskans Todd Palin — oil worker, champion snowmobiler, hunter and commercial fisherman — also has been boning up on mining lately in his role as Alaska's first spouse. The companies that paid for the flights, a normal means of travel to remote and often roadless parts of Alaska, are both in the early stages of a lengthy approval process. A month after the first visit, Todd Palin toured the Red Dog Mine, a lead and zinc operation in the northwestern part of the state. That company is currently seeking permission to mine a new deposit, which would extend the life of the mine to 2031.
