POPSParents, kids, share learning experience This clip :http://arif.amplify.com/2009/12/27/at-risk-kids-successful-new-york-program-a-possible-solution/ reminded me of below story. The common denominator is the holistic approach of community/family involvement from the early start.

POPSFBI Demands Tattoo Shops Rat On Customers It is not merely “extremist symbols.” In addition, the FBI literature instructs tattoo shops to be on the look-out for people who change hair color, style of dress, or shave beards between visits. Suspicious people also include those with missing fingers or hands, chemical burns, strange orders or bright colored stains on clothing. Read the handout below for more absurd “extremist” indicators according to the FBI.

POPSHow Last.fm inspired a scientific breakthrough
How does it work? At the basic level, students can "drag and drop" research papers into the site at mendeley.com, which automatically extracts data, keywords, cited references, etc, thereby creating a searchable database and saving countless hours of work. That in itself is great, but now the Last.fm bit kicks in, enabling users to collaborate with researchers around the world, whose existence they might not know about until Mendeley's algorithms find, say, that they are the most-read person in Japan in their niche specialism. You can recommend other people's papers and see how many people are reading yours, which you can't do in Nature and Science. Mendeley says that instead of waiting for papers to be published after a lengthy procedure of acquiring citations, they could move to a regime of "real-time" citations, thereby greatly reducing the time taken for research to be applied in the real world and actually boost economic growth. There are lots of research archives. For the physica

POPSResearcher uncovers secrets of Kells 'angels' more (at source): The monks could then refine any disparities by minimizing the apparent vertical depth of the images -- ultimately replicating the design element to submillimeter precision. Cisne proposed the idea in the July 17 issue of the journal Perception (Vol. 38, No. 7). The paper suggests that the technique, called free-fusion stereocomparison, which takes advantage of the brain's ability to perceive depth by integrating the slightly different views from each eye, was known nearly a thousand years before it was articulated by stereoscope inventor Sir George Wheatstone in the 19th century. Cisne analyzed the most detailed illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages, created between 670 and 800 A.D., including the Book of Kells (circa 800 A.D.); some have as many as 30 lines per centimeter.

POPS...and it's called PROJECTION.
What they are attributing to you, is exactly what THEY are doing. It's a devious and intensely irksome tactic and they are very good at it. You see it on MessNBC, from our top Democrats in Congress and from the President. They do it with hubristic, arrogant cock-sureness and they brazenly lie with a sense of intellectual security because they think nobody is as smart as they are. They've stolen the language by getting to it first, describing every element of their own actions, and blaming YOU for them. They don't have to go far to access the information. It is within their own hearts and minds. It is there to be witnessed in their behavior. It is denied and attributed to you. This way you are left to find an intelligent way of saying, "No I didn't. But you just did that", so they can repulsively scoff at you in their disgust. Be quick in calling them out. The latest studies on brain activity relating to political leanings is the kind of weaponry they are using. Study it. Search for the

POPSStar Factory Shows Off Three Kinds of Nebulae The Trifid’s third kind of nebula can be seen in the dark stripes that criss-cross the rest of the image. Called dark nebulae because of their light-obscuring properties, these clouds of gas and dust contain the remnants of previous star births. As higher pressure and temperatures build up inside the streaks of gas, nuclear fusion will lead to the formation of yet more stars

POPSAndreu Balent recalls their history SAINT-LAURENT-DE-CERDANS ~ election of Joseph Nivet The historian André Balent came to inaugurate a cycle of four conferences programmed this summer by the municipality on topics touching with the life, the history or the culture laurentine. In the room of the syndicated Workers which was one of the high places of antagonism between the two districts of the borough, el Moli and el Castell, André Balent provided the enthralling ones and clear historical explanations. It avoided any over-simplification and any caricature, on the genesis and the development, between 1815 and 1945, of this complex competition, more or less violent according to times', intersected with periods of unanimity when the good of the village community required it, and of the sometimes paradoxical or ambiguous characteristics, based on economic and social criteria, one and the other of the rival camps.

POPSEarly life united “We’ve known about the gram-negative bacteria for three scientific generations. We’ve been staring at them for a hundred years, and we never realized how they came about or what made them so different,” said Lake. “Without them, we wouldn’t have eukaryotes as we do today.”According to Lake, the union likely took the form of endosymbiosis, in which one of the prokaryotes literally swallowed the other, and the two grew together. Were mammals derived from a union of insect and amphibian, the story-of-life rearrangement would be comparably profound.

POPSAmericans Denounced As Terrorists While Criminals Embraced "Indeed, it’s perfectly reasonable for the government to reward criminals who have already broken the laws of the land while training police forces across the nation that American citizens, of whatever race or color, are a threat to society because they have a political bumper sticker, support a third party candidate or are somewhat knowledgeable about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The infamous MIAC report has now been superceded by a new document, The 2009 Virginia Terrorism Threat Assessment, produced by the Virginia Fusion Center. The report smears anyone who is “anti-government,” “anti-abortion,” as potential terrorists, equates people who enjoy rifle shooting practice and hunting with terrorists, and demonizes the use of the Internet and websites like You Tube, Fark and Slashdot as terrorist tools. The use of “e-protests” is also talked about in the context of terrorism."
