POPSU.S. History of Using Torture a very decent & extensive article on the US history on torture from Professor McCoy, the author of "A Question of Torture: CIA Interrogation, from the Cold War to the War on Terror". If this law stands, with its provisions for torture and drumhead justice, then the United States will suffer continuing damage to its moral leadership in the international community. Looking through a glass darkly into the future, Washington may try to return to that convenient contradiction that marked US policy during the Cold War: public compliance with human rights treaties and secret torture in contravention of those same diplomatic conventions. Yet the world is no longer blind to these once-clandestine CIA methods and this attempt at secrecy will likely produce another scandal similar to Abu Ghraib. But next time our protestations of innocence will ring hollow and the damage to US prestige will be even greater.

POPSUs Aiding Al Qaeda group against Iran? Via Kevin Drum , who pointed out that Jundullah is an Al Qaeda "franchise". Wikipedia also says Jundullah is affiliated with Al Qaeda. See also this clip from jdfodio for more information on how the US is secretly funding groups linked to Al Qaeda.

POPS U. S. Senator DeMint Is Mad As Hell Protesting the Marines is just a predictable by-product of the massive Bush Derangement Syndrome that exists in this God-Forsaken city. But they took it a step further and not only denounced the US Military but then wholly endorsed and even subsidized Code Pink. Is the city of Berkeley, California complicit in treason? Constitutionally, Code Pink did commit treason. The latest book by Lt. Col. Robert "Buzz" Patterson (U.S. Air Force-Ret.) is called War Crimes: The Left's Campaign to Destroy Our Military and Lose the War on Terror. In the book, he claims that two anti-war groups -- "United for Peace & Justice" and "CODEPINK: Women for Peace" -- literally gave aid and comfort to terrorists when they delivered $600,000 in cash and supplies they claim was humanitarian aid to civilians.

POPSDems Desperately Trying To Cut and Run From “Torture” Debate Now they’re trying to run away from the topic lest it get more press that they knew about “torture” and railed against it. Worse yet, if the press starts to look at who knew what/when…people might see that yeah, Democrats KNEW about pre-war intel on Iraq, and it wasn’t a case of Bushliedpeopledied (the timeline is 100% clear on this as are the bi-partisan investigations and reports). People might actually realize that Sen Rockefeller misled about a lack of WMD threat because he KNEW what was found. Sen Levin misled about regime ties to Al Queda because he’d been briefed too. All these briefings took place around the same time the torture briefings did. POPS"Big Talk, Little Will" - Thomas Friedman (NY Times) August 16, 2006. Friedman asking the right questions again. Here we are in the biggest struggle of our lives and we are funding both sides — the U.S. military with our tax dollars and the radical Islamists and the governments and charities that support them with our gasoline purchases

POPSBoehner gets emotional during Iraq war funding debate I want to be cynical because our current history has lead me to be this way. I hope this man is serious with his words, because if our leaders are not, we will be at the mercy of something the majority of us have never even read about. It's high time someone became passionate about our safety and security.

POPSDefinition Of Patriotism: "Happiness When The US Defeats The Enemy" They have lost their supposedly divine endorsement; why would Allah have called them to action, just to see them destroyed by the infidels? The sheer bloodthirstiness of their actions in Iraq have exposed them as drug-driven demons, not righteous jihadists. While Barack Obama and the Democratic party run around shouting to every microphone they can find that “Al-Qaeda is stronger today than it was on 9/11″ have challenged the core assumptions of Al-Qaeda’s motivating philosophy, that Allah is on their side and they cannot fail, and in doing so have crushed the spirit of Al-Qaeda’s followers and assured that recruiting into “Allah’s army” is far more difficult that it would have been if otherwise. Al Qaeda itself is telling a different story. Al-Qaeda leaders admit: 'We are in crisis. There is panic and fear' http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/iraq/article3346386.ece

POPSObama Uses CAIR Lawyer To Stall BERG v OBAMA Sandler’s role for CAIR has been to stifle people from telling the truth about Islam. For example, last year he tried to get Jihad Expert Robert Spencer banned from speaking to the Young American Foundation, by using a threatening letter. Sandler followed up by threatening columnist Mike Adams for writing about the Spencer incident. Look, everyone deserves legal representation that is not the Issue. The real issue is why is a candidate for President of the United States, a guy who wants to take over the role of Commander-in-Chief in the war on terror, using the Lawyer for CAIR a group with terrorist connections, to represent him in a law suit? POPSLieberman to GOP ? cont: If he doesn't change his mind, he'll be switching. Democrats aren't going to quit trying to stop the war in Iraq...and cutting off funding is the next logical step. How about switching to the Libertarian Party?

POPSNo legislation needed to end war Kucinich makes an obvious point that I've never thought of: Funding expires. Congress needs to pass no law to end funding. It certainly need not come up with a majority to survive a veto. No funding bill = no more war. Money currently in the pipeline would be sufficient to see the troops safely home.

POPSU.S. Aid to Honduras Moves Toward Formal Cut Off
Where's The Thanks? Posted 08/21/2009 INVESTOR.com Allies: Tiny Honduras last week handed over a Syrian death merchant to face justice in the U.S. That's right: The same 'coup-government' the Obama administration reviles is one of the very few helping us fight terror. As shadowy moneymen in the terror underworld go, not many are as unsavory as Jamal Yousef, an ex-Syrian military man turned terrorist arms supplier. Three years ago in Honduras, undercover U.S. agents caught him trying to sell 100 AR-15 assault rifles, 100 M-16 assault rifles, 10 M-60 machine guns, C-4 explosives, 2,500 hand grenades, rocket-propelled grenades and as many as 18 surface-to-air missiles to Colombia's FARC Marxist narcoterrorists. His price? A ton of cocaine, something he knew how to "move." Honduran cops put him away for petty charges, but he did only three years in prison that ended this week. Instead of letting him walk, the Honduran government put him on a plane bound for New York

POPSMullahs Keep Fighting Us While Destroying Iran
against an official estimate of $45 billion. This sort of discrepancy typically occurs when capital flight is disguised as imports through fraudulent invoices and similar devices. A small current-account deficit would be of little concern for a nation with normal access to world capital markets, but Iran is unable to borrow. There is indeed massive capital flight. As I wrote a couple of years ago, Gulf bankers told me that they can’t handle all the money pouring out of Iran. Wealthy Persians long since saw the doom of the Islamic Republic, and have been looting the country’s resources for their own gain. They are printing money, further pauperizing Iranian workers–who are famously paid very late, if at all, as demonstrated by the ongoing demonstrations and strikes at government-owned companies– The message Spengler delivers is that there is no way out of this war. Left to their own devices, the mullahs will destroy Iran, and, if they can, us as well.

POPSOur Brave Democrats Are As Fearful As Ever Once again, the Democrats, who so many of us put into power in order to change the direction of the Iraq policy and to bring our troops out of the hell hole, are going to give Bush his blank cheque to continue his war. Even though better than 72% of the country want this war to end, the Dems continue to be chicken to do anything tangible about it for fear the nasty Republicans, whom the U.S. electorate have all but totally abandoned, might call them soft of terror. Oh come on! This is getting to be not only ridiculous, but criminal. We the people have had our say, and our representatives are ignoring us for their own cowardly political reasons.
