Health Care Bill Could Face String of Legal Challenges
merrie
by merrie  12-23-2009    3
“I don’t believe Congress has the legal or moral authority to force this mandate on its citizens,” Ensign said in a statement, raising what’s known as a “constitutional point of order.” Such procedural challenges are rare and typically lead to a vote. The non-profit Fund for Personal Liberty, as well as a Virginia-based group called the 10th Amendment Foundation, already have threatened to file suit in federal court over this issue if the health care bill passes. The Constitution allows Congress to tax, borrow, spend, declare war, raise an army and regulate commerce, among other things. Proponents of the insurance mandate point to the Commerce Clause in arguing that Congress is within its rights to require health insurance and dismiss such potential legal challenges. But foes say the across-the-board requirement is too broad.

Dems to Skyrocket National Debt: Obama’s Leadership Failure
merrie
by merrie  12-13-2009    4
He had the audacity to hold one of his White House “Summits” on fiscal responsibility in February where he once again promised: “We need to send a signal that we are serious” about solving these fiscal problems. All this time the red ink flows like a Tsunami of proportions that have never been seen before. Republicans Stand United and Firm in Opposition to Fiscal Irresponsiblity Before Democrats can pass the 2,500 page omnibus spending bill to fully fund government operations for the remainder of this fiscal year they must pass the increase in the debt ceiling. Action starts in the House of Representatives where Republicans are standing firm: I think it’s very credible to oppose increase in the debt ceiling, and you’ll see Republicans vote against it. And we’ll vote against it because of their trillion-dollar stimulus plan that hasn’t worked. We’ll vote against it because of all of this excessive spending that’s in this bill right here, a 12 percent increase ...

From Botox To Botax
ericgyoung
by ericgyoung  11-19-2009
Much to the apparent ire of the manufacturers of Botox and the doctors who apply it, Congress is poised to levy a new tax to help pay for the health care plan - Botax. I guess they've finally put 2 and 2 together and figured out that they can't balance the checkbook by raising ciggy taxes anymore. I have nothing against plastic surgery, but I say three cheers for a good idea out of Congress that will help fund health care that's truly a necessity.

Secret Service Overwhelmed By Death Threats
sahara
by sahara  10-20-2009    1
Obama, who was given Secret Service protection 18 months before the election - the earliest ever for a presidential candidate - has been the target of more threats since his inauguration than his predecessors. Two days before Obama’s appearance at San Francisco fund-raisers on Thursday, a 59-year-old Northern California man was indicted on charges of sending a racist, profanity-filled e-mail threatening to kill Obama and his family. The rambling e-mail included specific references to Michelle Obama and the phrase, “do it to his children and family first in front of him,’’ according to the indictment.

Health-Care Plan Adds $600 Billion in Taxes, $400 Billion in Cuts to Medicare and Medicaid
merrie
by merrie  6-13-2009    1
Obama said this week he plans in the coming days to disclose more proposals for raising “additional sources of revenue.” In a letter last week to Senate Democrats drafting legislation he said he will be proposing between $200 billion and $300 billion in further Medicare and Medicaid cuts. Obama plans to give a speech Monday in Chicago to the American Medical Association as part of his campaign to build up support for what could be the biggest changes to healthcare policy since Medicare was established in 1965. Rangel said that while House Democrats will likely release more details about health policy changes in their legislation next week, the package of offsetting tax increases and spending cuts likely will come later. Democrats, he said, want to put forth the more-positive aspects of an overhaul first. Rangel also wants to let lawmakers have time to study and weigh in on proposed offsets. This is the solution to our healthcare "crisis"?

Satire...Satire...Satire " finally, all these states and the federal government are raising their taxes to fund children's health programs- they say. this latest .60 cent tax increase is what started me thinking that today, as the new tax goes into effect, was the time to quit, so instead of the sick little kids getting $1.01 a day in taxes from me to fund their health programs, they're losing .41 cents, or $4.10 a week from me, State Farm, wants to up my new rate a few hundred a month because now I'm fifty and a smoker, so I'm dropping them and getting accident insurance instead and in two years when my rates would drop because (if) I've been a non smoker for that long, I'll go with another company with my business. Pornology
abailart
by abailart  3-30-2009    8
<<<This, to me, sounded completely wrong. the root of the word 'porn' has no relation to any word that might be related to fruit or apples. Now pomme might be more appropriate, There's the French word pomme which means apple. There's Italian pomo which is also apple. Latin for apple is Malum, -i. In Greek it's μήλο or melo. That well-known word, pornography is based on the Greek word, pornographia, which derives from the word porne, or prostitute. So, strictly, pornology means knowledge of or study of prostitutes. It's not what you would call a common word. In fact, I don't think it's a word at all. Back at home I did some internet searching and discovered a blog by a lady of a certain age (http://dabrah.blogspot.com/2007/11/quizzing-quizmaster.html) who had seen the exact same question and answer at a quiz a few months ago. She, too felt there was something wrong, but she took it no further. I have to look into these things and embarked on a detective mission to work out wher

Critics Got Donations From A.I.G.
merrie
by merrie  3-26-2009    1
Mr. Schumer has accepted $112,000 in donations from AIG's employees and its political action committee, making him the second-largest recipient among active lawmakers since 1990. "Virtually all the contributions were made over five years ago, and nothing has been contributed since taxpayers needed to step in to save this company from itself," said Brian Fallon, a spokesman for Sen. Schumer. "He hasn't accepted donations since, and will not." Among Republicans, former President George W. Bush has received the most -- $200,000 -- from AIG and its employees, followed by 2008 Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, with $99,000. Through the 1990s and the early part of this decade, AIG's donations were evenly split between Republicans and Democrats. But starting during the 2004 election, AIG employees and its PAC started favoring Democrats. Since then, Democrats have received 60% of the $2.6 million in political donations from the company and its employees.

Obama Declares War on Investors, Entrepreneurs, Businesses, And More
merrie
by merrie  2-27-2009
Study after study over the past several decades has shown how countries that spend more produce less, while nations that tax less produce more. Obama’s cap-and-trade program will be a huge across-the-board tax increase on blue-collar workers, including unionized workers. Industrial production is plunging, but new carbon taxes will prevent production from ever recovering. While the country wants more fuel and power, cap-and-trade will deliver less. Obama’s rosy scenario of 4 percent recovery growth in the out years of his budget is not likely to occur. The combination of easy money from the Fed and below-potential economic growth is a prescription for stagflation. That’s one of the messages of the falling stock market. Here on Wall Street, a great many Obama supporters — especially hedge-fund types who voted for “change” — are becoming disillusioned with the performances of Obama and Treasury man Geithner. There is a growing sense of buyer’s remorse.

Axis Of George Soros & The Vendetta Against Norm Coleman

(UN Secretary General Kofi Annan’s deputy and right-hand man at the UN) who was seen as spinning away any culpability of Annan and the UN itself in this travesty of a program. Coleman thereby clearly earned the wrath of George Soros, for the ties between Brown and Soros are tight and seemingly mutually beneficial. How close was Soros to Mark Brown? Soros provided an apartment of very advantageous rates for Brown; the favoritism bestowed upon Brown only began with that token of appreciation and support. Upon leaving the UN under the cloud that Coleman helped create, Brown was named the vice-president of the Quantum Fund run by his friend George Soros. Brown had no experience in the hedge fund world, but such sinecures are generously passed out by billionaires wanting friends that might reach high places—they are an investment (see Axis of Soros in the Wall Street Journal’s archives).

Illinois Governor Arrested: "Political Corruption Crime Spree"

The arrests dealt a tumultuous blow to Illinois government, at once raising questions about the leadership of the state and the fate of the open Senate seat—which the governor alone has the power to fill under the state law. The allegations against Blagojevich provide a sharp contrast to a Democratic governor who campaigned for office promising reforms in the wake of disgraced, scandal-tainted Republican chief executive George Ryan.

We cannot allow our government to put the burden of it's failed policies on the backs of our seniors, poor, disabled and immigrants. How arnold sleeps at night I don't know. I refuse to capitalize this mans name. He refuses to enact a 1% tax increase on the most wealthy, (something even Ronald Reagan did during a recession. ) while proposing tax increases on the poor during a recession. It's immoral and insulting when the blind and disabled will not get a cost of living increase this year while politicians like Carole Migden get six-figure salaries for serving on the Integrated Waste Management Board, whom Beyond the Chron says is a known patronage slush fund.
