POPSAnyone else getting this error on Clipmarks? This is driving me nuts....all the time I get this error. And not to brag, but I just bought a brand spanking new Macbook and have a rock star PC. I'm sure it's not my hardware. I get this message on both of my computers? Saving clips is FRUSTRATING. Time to upgrade the server or what? Who is running this site anyway? ANNOYING.

POPSThe Democrats have lost the source of their passion This point by Paul Krugman is so true. Many people who voted for Obama, including myself, did so primarily out of hope that his spirit and belief in change deserved a chance to succeed. My candid perspective is that his spirit began to diminish during his swearing in and has continued to dissipate ever since. It's hard to understand and very frustrating...but i think my feelings of disappointment are shared by many in this country.

POPSClimate Change as Ideology Who would have thought that it would be a leader from a former Soviet Bloc country to lead the charge against junk science and manufactured mass hysteria?

POPSThe impact of jealousy on facebook and twitter This is such an honest, introspective and important comment about the impact of social media. Sure, social media is fun and cool and all that, but there is no doubt that the typical offline dynamics of envy, jealousy, competition, humility and conceit all play a serious roll in our web relations as well. As i read this post, i was moved by how honest this person was able to be (with themselves and the public). I have, at times, experienced similar feelings and i'm sure many other people have as well.

POPSWhy Do People Buy Right-Wing Nonsense on Health Reform? In a follow-up piece, Begley considers the thinking behind this bizarre trend. She spoke to sociologist Steven Hoffman who explained, "Rather than search rationally for information that either confirms or disconfirms a particular belief, people actually seek out information that confirms what they already believe." For the most part, he added, "people completely ignore contrary information" and are able to "develop elaborate rationalizations based on faulty information."

POPSNo Attempt By "Mainstream" Media to Cover Tea Party
Furthurmore, when I opened the SF Chronicle this Sunday morning not only did I not see even one single hint about our visibility rally or any others that came to my attnetion that occured yesterday - but instead I saw two terrible rather close-minded and racist cartoons. In the Opinion section I saw a cartoon showing several very angry looking, fat, older white people. Imagine the hue and cry if it was a leftist protest and they stereotyped any other races or sexual orientations and had them angry and not making any reasonable sense. There was then a second cartoon where two people are wondering where to find out about the details on the Obama-Care program and are asked to follow the "flying monkeys" This is a reference to the Wizard of Oz, with the Wicked Witch orchestrating them all from a conservative radio station office. I try to keep an open mind and share all points of view within reason, being a teacher but the literally immature and blind arrogance and absolute bias by most

POPSWe are all fallible human beings My advice to you is to let go of your need for changing or perfecting other people. If someone does not meet your standards for maintaining a particular kind of relationship with you, then you have a very simple solution: don’t maintain that type of relationship with that person. It is truly as simple as that.

POPSBirthers and anti-choicers: one and the same? More: The birther conspiracy theory works the same way---pointing out evidence and logical arguments only expands the size and scope of the conspiracy in the minds of birthers. In fact the “Obama faked his birth certificate and was born outside of the U.S.” theory apparently erupted in part from an earlier conspiracy theory over Obama's middle name . With birthers, as with anti-choicers, more evidence of reality just gets them further into the thick of imagining even more complex and strange conspiracies. And just as the anti-choicers have moved on to concocting theories about how Planned Parenthood is part of a child sex ring that they’re covering up, I suspect the birther thing may grow in ways that are frightening in their complexity and lack of touch with reality.

POPS “Shame Located?” LA Weekly seems to be alone in denouncing it as racism … “the only thing missing is a noose” … which while a bizarre stretch is also a little surprising, given the “SOCIALISM” part, which we were informed during the campaign is code for black, on top of the shocking use of white face imagery. Maybe this should be seen as a step forward in post-racialism. Or maybe, mindful of what happened to the last guy who screamed racism, the usual suspects are afraid they’ll be photographed drinking beer with Joe Biden. old code word for black http://voices.kansascity.com/node/2493 Ha! Treacher has cartoon bubble fun with the Joker and the Dark Knight … “Why so spurious?” I recommend linking to Jim Treachers post http://jimtreacher.com/archives/002100.html Looks like this thing’s been around since April, anyway. Unclear why it suddenly became an issue. (More on this and other recent lefty hypocrisy and race-baiting compliments of HotAir.)

POPSBill O'Reilly's Argument For Abolishing Freedom Of The Press This is a man who has his own TV show and millions of viewers to whom he can peddle dangerous ideas like "outside agencies" that have power over the press. It is nearly impossible to go a day without hearing him besmirch the media as a bastion of hate that poses a very real risk to society. O’Reilly represents the sort of mindless hostility that is being spread throughout the mediasphere. And it isn't just O'Reilly. It is Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, etc. It would be tempting to ask what can be done about these freaks. But that would just be adopting their response that promotes censorship and suppression. The real question is how do we educate the people who watch and listen to this garbage? How do we replace sensationalistic ranting with honest and deliberative discourse? And how do we do it before it erupts into (more) violence?

POPSLegal Drinking & Driving I just had a frustrating conversation with a Costa Mesa Police Officer who would NOT tell me it was illegal to drink and drive... because it is NOT! This was shocking information to me, mostly because I would love to be able to tell my 33 year old daughter that it is NOT legal for her to drink a beer and hop in the car with my grandson! No dice, I can't tell her that, she has already informed me it is legal... and she is right.

POPSBig Brother moves to Tiburon So, rather than tell the residents to LOCK THEIR DOORS, they'd rather spend $100,000 on videotaping and logging the license plate of every car that crosses the city limits. I knew there were reasons I never go to Tiburon...

POPSSelf-Euthanasia In my own case, the best arguments against self murder tend to be literary: not only would I have trouble coming up with an adequate note, but in nearly all life stories—and certainly mine—suicide is just about the least satisfactory ending conceivable. It abruptly negates the dramatic tension that give fiction, and life, meaning. This is not to say that all lives have happy endings, clearly they don’t, but all lives are stories, written by ourselves in collaboration with fate, and there are few things as frustrating as a story that ends before its time. Through early morning fog I see visions of the things to be the pains that are withheld for me I realize and I can see... that suicide is painless It brings on many changes and I can take or leave it if I please. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggIc4d2Gfp0

POPSFlorida City Caught Criminalizing the Homeless When I worked in downtown San Diego during a visit by then Pres. Clinton, the cops rounded up all the homeless in the downtown area and shuttled them up to LA. Presumably so the Pres would not have to see any of his ‘subjects’ living on the street. Sadly, this kind of cruelty towards people who are homeless is not restricted only to St. Petersburg. Take a glimpse at the list of the Top 20 Meanest Cities: http://www.nationalhomeless.org/publications/crimreport/meanest.html See if your town is on the list.

POPSIT IS SO FRUSTRATING They really should do something about this. When a person is blocked from commenting then they should be blocked from popping the clip too. There's been a few times twice today, that I've popped a clip and not looked at who made the clip. I popped it then couldn't comment. IT is so frustrating!

POPSSo when will the famine happen? The nation's second largest ethanol maker took corn from farmers, went bankrupt without paying many of them, and a whole lot of family farms are going to be foreclosed upon in short order if something isn't done.
