POPSThe End of America? During a question-and-answer period after the speech, Natasha Cohen (CAS’12) asked Bacevich how internal change might be brought about. “We need to live within our means, as individuals in our households and in terms of the services provided for by government at various levels,” he answered. “I’m no economist, but I do believe there is no free lunch. Everything has to be paid for.”

POPSNo Political Sermons?
The good old days when powerful politicians could stomp all over free speech. "The debate over Jones’s bill and Johnson’s amendment reveals once again how confusing and confused church-state jurisprudence is and has always been and will always be. Both sides claim that the other is violating the separation of church and state. Barry Lynn, a minister who is executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, argues that “We just can’t have sermons converted into political advertisements for candidates,” and he warns against using “church collection plate money on an ad telling people” to vote for one candidate rather than another. " Oh come on. Seperating church and state is one thing. Stopping the clergy from making political statements is a whole different and very dangerous ballgame. Are you going to stop the clergy from speaking on immigration? How about speaking out about the plight of the poor? Should they stop making speeches about genocide? I

POPSCanadian Extremist A stunning example that hate does not borders respect. It is universal. At least some are taking this seriously and beginning an investigation. I'm all for free speech but this goes beyond the limits of even the loosest interpretation.

POPSClipMarks Enables Marxism I found that a clipper whom I frequently disagree with has "prevented" me from commenting on her clips! I am shattered! BTW, it is not 911INSIDEJOB144...I couldn't clip the admonition that I was unable to "comment" on the clipper's clip. Who knows, Messrs Goldstein and company may boot me completely for clipping this! Seems to me this type of "censorship" is usually ascribed to the conservatives not the left leaning majority on ClipMarx.... p.s. Don't disagree with the catlovers here...you'll be blocked from "commenting" on their clips. I say if ya can't stand the heat...stay out of the kitchen!

POPSObama Campaign Text Msg: Watch The Debate On CNN First, can you imagine the heartbreak at MSNBC? I mean, the Olbermann network has been trying so hard to be the Obama Network, and then to get this punch in the gut! :( Second, can you imagine what would have been the reaction if John McCain had texted his supporters, saying, "Watch Fox"? Well, the roof would have caved in, media-criticism-wise. Looks like the campaign figured out how to speak SMS short-hand and thus free up enough characters to type out "any of the major networks or cable" vs. "CNN." :)

POPSHaving Their Cake and Eating It Too From the article: "Let's imagine that the Alliance Defense Fund and its clerical clients were to persuade the Supreme Court to overturn the Johnson amendment's ban on political endorsements from the pulpit. At that point, what would prevent wealthy ideologues from making tax-exempt contributions to sympathetic pastors' churches for the express purpose of engaging in partisan electioneering? For that matter, what would prevent ambitious pastors from soliciting just such contributions and then using them to bind like-minded ministers into powerful political machines?"

POPSParatrooper To Get Conscientious Objector Status, Discharge. Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

POPSRare Images of the War The US military has done an excellent job of censoring images like these. Perhaps if they hadn't been so skilled at denying free speech, support for the war in Iraq would have declined sooner rather than later. By the way, you are allowed to react to these images with your emotions. That's what makes you fully human. Don't let anyone tell you that you should view them solely from the cold aspect of reason. Such people are only censors of a different sort. They would censor your feelings.

POPSItaly misses opertunity to defend free speech. Italian officials had a great opportunity to defend the free speech of it's citizens. But instead they opted to appease the ego of the bigoted catholic leader. One thing people keep forgetting, freedom of speech doesn't protect you from hearing stuff you don't like. In fact when people spout stuff you find offensive, you know it's working.

POPS"Your honour, we now have the fashion police." Good move by the judge. Though I personally don't like such a fashion, but what would different between America and Iran if we were to institute such measures? And do I see "town voters" backed this petition? Whoa.

POPSIntolerance on the Left
If book banning is such a life-and-death issue to these celebrity foot soldiers for free speech, where were they four years ago when John Kerry and his rabid minions were pressuring Regnery Publishing to withdraw Unfit for Command from bookstores? Where were they when members of the Borders Books Employee Union were openly advocating sabotaging book sales? A message on the union’s members-only website urged: You guys don’t actually HAVE to sell the thing! Just “carelessly” hide the boxes, “accidentally” drop them off pallets, “forget” to stock the ones you have, and then suggest a nice Al Franken or Michael Moore book as a substitute . . . I don’t care if these Neandertals (sic) in fancy suits get mad at me, they aren’t regular customers anyway. Other than “Left Behind” books, they don’t read. Anything you can do to make them feel unwelcome is only fair. They are the people pushing retailers to cut costs, don’t forget. And they would censor your speech, your books,

POPSYouTube Bans Terrorism Videos; Don't You Feel Much Safer?
"As we pointed out at the time, trying to ban terrorists from posting videos to YouTube seems incredibly short-sighted. First, it won't work. Those videos will quickly pop back up on other sites that won't take them down. Second, most of those videos are preaching to the choir. It's unlikely that very many people are being recruited to the terrorists' causes by a grainy video on YouTube. Third, letting terrorists post their videos to a mainstream site like YouTube should help authorities figure out who's posting the videos and where they're coming from. Fourth, and most important, one of the key founding principles of this country is the right to free speech, no matter how much one might disagree with that speech. But, part of that principle is that it allows people to respond. So, yes, the videos may be pure propaganda, but there's no reason that people can't respond to the videos and show why they're propaganda and wrong. Confronting your critics is a reasonable stance. Demanding tha

POPSWorld’s Gutter Governments To Sit In Judgment Over U.S. Human Rights Record However, even in other highly advanced English speaking nations such as Australia and Canada, these offences can be defined in such a way as “disparaging” a religion. This can consist of claiming that the doctrines of your faith are superior to that of another sect under consideration such as in the case of a Canadian ministry that pointed out the shortcomings of the Watchtower Society and in the case of McClean’s Magazine where those pointing out the intentions of radical Islamists have been sued for racial defamation but no action has been taken against the aspiring Jihadists wanting to kill people. Frankly, one could spend several lifetimes rifling through the human rights records of many of the nations on the U.N. Humans Rights Council and still not have the time to air America’s dirty laundry which is nothing more than a single used piece of toilet paper when compared to these cesspool countries.

POPSChristian, Remember This Is What It Is All About Where are the Christians on free speech? Journalists are being raided at the Republican National Convention and they continue to support the party that encourages such behavior. Don't they see the connection? Are they going to wait until they are personally affronted? It will be far to late if it isn't too late already. What they need to do is start speaking out, buy a video camera to record incidents like this, and let others know. The Republican Neocons are monitoring your response and when they see you pull the covers over your head, they will attack us all. Newsweek Mar 2007 reported that 80% of Americans claim to be Christian. If this is so, where is the light, where is truth, where is hope in any degree compared to what your Lord brought? If you said you follow the god of darkness I would believe you.

POPSTrolls and Other Nastiness A very provocative article on freedom on speech vs. downright nastiness, hatred and harassment. Is uncensored speech the most free, or is free speech enhanced by civility?

POPSWar Protesters Denied Free Speech: Hundreds Arrested 1,000 people marching in the streets. Thousands on the day before. Over 500 arrested in the week. Raids on homes before the convention. Another FBI informant agent provocateur turning in his room after encouraging his actions for months. Bad...bad, bad protesters, refusing to stay in the 'protester cattle pens," trying to walk down the street to get within a mile of the RNC convention center. Or...maybe bad...bad government that now prohibits legal protest that are, actually, allowed to line up across the street from any hotel or business, wave signs, chant , try to have their voices heard while for 8 years the media pretends they don't exist and the government wants to fence them in cattle pens.

POPSLearn Out Loud This site is fabulous and one of my favourites. When you get tired, why not just lean back and let someone else do the reading for a change. LOTS of stuff here, to make you smarter. Go rummage through the titles. Tons of stuff for FREE and all downloadable. :) I clipped just a few titles at the end (until I ran out of characters) to show you what sort of stuff they offer. Enjoy! .:)
