In food crisis, Cuba limits sales so all can eat
Lexica
by Lexica  Yesterday 6:26 PM
It would seem obvious: better to have everybody be a little bit hungry than to have some people well-fed while others are starving. When it comes to food policy, there's a lot we could learn from Cuba.

Nanofood safety proposal 'NOT good enough'
pokkets
by pokkets  10-8-2008
Why? because it is DANGEROUS. It does nothing to benefit the consumer, but is a means of increasing profits by extending shelf life and appearance. There is a barrier called the Blood-Brain barrier, where the pores through osmosis will only admit a certain number of chemicals. with small molecular size, and identity. Nanofood elements throw a new invasive potential into the mix generally when there are alternatives that are much more healthy.

"Bees Can Count"
cakebelly
by cakebelly  9-29-2008    1
continues: Also at the Australian National University, Marie Dacke and Mandyam V. Srinivasan trained European honeybees to pass a particular number of colored stripes in a tunnel to get a food reward, which was placed by a stripe. When they removed the food, the bees still returned to the same stripe. Next, they mixed things up on the bees: they varied the spacing of the stripes, and even replaced stripes with unfamiliar markers. The insects consistently passed the same number of markers to approach the former reward site, demonstrating that they could count, up to four. The studies burnish the impressive list of honeybees' known cognitive abilities, all achieved with a brain the size of a sand grain. The studies were detailed in the journals PLoS One and Animal Cognition.
