POPSThis Man Is Evil update: the link is now defunct. Hmm I could introduce him to at least 100 people who were personally traumatized by Reagan. And since I am a living, breathing consequence of his policies, flashbacks, trauma and all, you own this misery. Conservatives cannot deny facts, no matter how long and hard they try. High unemployment led to poverty. Reagan's social policies led to NO safety net. No safety net led to 32 degree F inside the house and no food. Lack of basic necessities led the State to put me and my siblings in foster care. Do I have to draw a map? If you supported him, you supported this outcome for a 10 year old and her little brothers. The 6-yr old cowered under the dinner table at the foster home for at least two weeks. This is your compassion?? And it is happening to another child or a dozen right now. Poverty leading to foster care, broken families. How do you expect anyone to forgive you? Also, alleged scholar, poor does NOT=black.

POPSCloned Puppies: Sure, They're Cute, But at What Cost? Yet defenders of the industry say that it's wrong to apply analogies taken from other species' clones: Despite the difficulties, they insist, cloned dogs tend to be healthy, not least because scientists have spent the last decade figuring out how to do it. "Clone enough dogs, and occasionally you have offspring that aren't perfect," said Lou Hawthorne, CEO of both BioArts and the late Genetic Savings and Clone. "But it's comparable to what you have through conventional breeding."

POPSThe hippo who ditched his muddy waters to catch some sun and surf
'Hippos don't take well to darting' Mr van Schoor explains, 'they die of stress and this one would drown if we darted her in the water, and if we tried to dart her on the beach, she would run into the water for safety and again drown when the drug takes effect.' Hippos are usually captured using passive methods such as monitoring paths that they use regularly and setting up enclosures to lure them into. But Mr Van Schoor says that this hippo's only hope is to stop moving South. He added: 'If the hippo moves any further south there is huge risk, he is moving into residential areas and towards Durban where food for the hippo will become a problem'. Hippos are considered to be one of the most dangerous and aggressive of all animals and with this one coming into contact with humans and domestic animals, it could soon become a problem. Sadly If the hippo does not retrace his own steps and move back north, KZN says there is little hope for him.

POPSGermany bans chemicals linked to honeybee devastation The company says an application error by the seed company which failed to use the glue-like substance that sticks the pesticide to the seed, led to the chemical getting into the air. Bayer spokesman Dr Julian Little told the BBC's Farming Today that misapplication is highly unusual. "It is an extremely rare event and has not been seen anywhere else in Europe," he said. Clothianidin, like the other neonicotinoid pesticides that have been temporarily suspended in Germany, is a systemic chemical that works its way through a plant and attacks the nervous system of any insect it comes into contact with. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency it is "highly toxic" to honeybees.

POPSDrug for Longer Life The other drug is a small synthetic chemical that is a thousand times as potent as resveratrol in activating sirtuin and can be given at a much smaller dose. Safety tests in people have just started, with no adverse effects so far. The hope is that activating sirtuins in people would, like a calorically restricted diet in mice, avert degenerative diseases of aging like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s. There is no Food and Drug Administration category for longevity drugs, so if the company is to submit a drug for approval, it needs to be for a specific disease. Nonetheless, longevity is what has motivated the researchers and what makes the drugs potentially so appealing.

POPSOh Really...Heritage Foundation Misleads...Again The "we-heart-policies-that-divide-families" Heritage Foundation has a poverty "expert", R. Rector, who is always wrong. His 2000 predictive charts on the effects of the Bush tax cuts on jobs are laughable now. But everything he says about poverty is also DEAD wrong. Makes me wonder if these guys that make the big bucks are paid to be wrong. All the major policy changes that were allegedly discussed in the past. I call bullcrap. Reagan cut programs for the poor very quickly, so fast that my conservative parents who were very slow to ask for help were turned away from aid when they turned to their last resort-the gov't. No jobs, no safety nets. Voila- a home with no heat, no running water, and very little food. Us children get placed into foster care since my parents are indigent. So, those policies for the poor. HOW did they work out for you, GOP? Got Rich? BECAUSE they took a shit on poor children across the country. Praise life.

POPSCan We Live Without "Made In China"? I remember way back, when France conducted extensive nuclear testing at the Mururoa Atoll , we boycotted buying anything French. That was hard enough, but try avoiding "Made in China". It's practically impossible!

POPSPolls show atheists on the rise in America The American Religious Identification Survey recently found the number of people who claimed “no religion” had nearly doubled nationally over the last 18 years, to 15 percent. They were the only demographic that increased in all 50 states. Some attribute the surge to outrage over former president George W. Bush and his courting of the religious right. Others mention a slew of best-selling books about atheism that have recently fueled debate. But there’s no doubt the Internet is playing a role too. It offers atheist dating services, and helps nonbelievers meet up — people who might otherwise remain “loners.” “I’m happy to attend any religious observances where the food is good,” said one non-believer. For others, atheism is a cause. Along with freethinking and agnostic groups, they are beginning to lobby Congress on everything from stem cell research to civil rights.

POPSChickens Not Fooled by GM Crops GM corn found itself in the hot seat late last year, after a highly reputable study commissioned by the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety discovered that mice fed GM corn had significantly smaller and fewer offspring compared to the control group. The lead author of the study stated there was a direct link between the GM diet and reduced fertility. Likewise, Jeffrey Smith, author of Seeds of Deception and Genetic Roulette, has documented 65 serious health risks from GM products of all kinds. Among them: * Offspring of rats fed GM soy showed a five-fold increase in mortality, lower birth weights, and the inability to reproduce * Male mice fed GM soy had damaged sperm * The embryo offspring of GM soy-fed mice had altered DNA functioning * Several US farmers reported sterility or fertility problems among pigs and cows fed on GM corn varieties So the question is, what

POPSThe Man Who Exposed China More: The toothpaste scare helped galvanize global concerns about the quality of China’s exports in general, prompting the government there to promise to reform how food, medicine and consumer products are regulated. And other countries are re-examining how well they monitor imported products. Lost in this swirl of activity was the identity of the person who started it all — Mr. Arias.

POPSMillionaire punishes snooty staff with burgers at a 5-star seriously such people really need to be taught a lesson. I recall people in the more fortunate part of Bombay, India complaining about their Internet not working when half the city was submerged for 3 days due to a terrible deluge. as a safety precaution those areas did not receive electricity. So while people waded, sat afloat beds without electricity, living off bread and biscuits, there were those who complained their Internet connections were giving trouble. Disgusting.

POPSPepsiCo Chooses to Continue Using GE Ingredients Despite Evidence of Harm
The list of evil corporations grows longer. What else would you label a corporation that continues to use ingredients proven to cause toxicity in the kidney and liver? They sure as hell cannot be considered beneficial or benevolent. US law does not require GE foods be tested for toxicity so PepsiCo will continue to use the material without conscience. To quote Pepsi's response to the proposal: "We believe that genetically-modified products can play a role in generating positive economic, social and environmental contributions to societies around the world; particularly in times of food shortages." PepsiCo’s belief system (making money no matter what) doesn’t fit in with lab test results therefore disregard the tests. Incredibly, Monsanto had this to say: "Monsanto should not have to vouchsafe the safety of biotech food. Our interest is in selling as much of it as possible. Assuring its safety is the FDA's job." That’s my definition of an evil corporation.

POPS(satire) 10 things I'd rather do than get a Swine Flu vaccine shot #5) Base jump off a tall building with nothing more than a parachute made under the same quality control oversight as FDA-approved swine flu vaccines. #6) Be subjected to forced chemotherapy at gunpoint, just like all the other U.S. teens who are kidnapped by state authorities and forcibly injected with chemo. #7) Have all the superfoods in my pantry secretly replaced with MSG-laced processed food products made by Frito-Lay. #8) Work as a biological hazards disposal volunteer in the "superbug ward" of a local hospital. #9) Drink diet soda until my brain explodes from the aspartame exposure. #10) Get a public relations job at the White House where my sole responsibility is to show the brain-numbed masses how to stupidly sneeze into their own shirt sleeves.

POPSHow the Grinch Stole Health Care There's a scene from the animated version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" that fits George W. Bush to a tee. The lines from the poem read: And the one speck of food that he left in the house was a crumb that was even too small for a mouse. Then he did the same thing to the other Whos' houses, leaving crumbs much too small for the other Whos' mouses! But in the 1966 televised adaptation of Dr. Seuss' classic, the Grinch actually goes back for that final crumb, leaving the family with... nothing. This scene is remindful of yet another last-minute move by our president to inflict hardship on those less fortunate than he is. (And what an appropriate time of year for Bush to demonstrate his aptitude for misgovernance.)
