GOP Sen. Gets His Own Pork in Stimulus
Wisco
by Wisco  2-8-2009
Further in the post we learn: Dean Baker, more succinctly, simply calls it the House Flipping Subsidy . And oh, by the way, it costs $30 billion more than Isakson originally claimed it would cost. The amendment is still in the "compromise bill" (the cowardly Senate voted it through on a voice vote), and Isakson is not about to vote for the final bill. See, Republicans know that this is going to pass no matter what they do, so they feel free to load it up with honest-to-goodness pork amendments, then vote against it and claim to be standing up to liberal spending. This is called "having your cake and eating it too." Or hypocrisy.

Frank Releases Proposal For Rescue Fund Restrictions (Update4)
merrie
by merrie  1-9-2009
Frank said he is working with Obama’s team on changes House Democrats are seeking in exchange for agreeing to release the money. He plans hold a hearing on the legislation Jan. 13 and move it to the House floor by Jan. 15. Congress must be notified before Treasury gets access to the remaining money and lawmakers have 15 days after notification to block the funds. The funds haven’t been requested, Frank said. Representative Spencer Bachus, the top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee, said there’s a consensus building among the panel’s Republicans to oppose any new request because additional funds are unnecessary. Frank’s proposal also requires Treasury to develop a program outside of TARP to spur home buying, including by making more affordable mortgage rates available to qualified buyers.

Dealing with this Liar Loan Tale first hand
missmartini
by missmartini  4-24-2008
I am sure a lot of people out there are also dealing with this. I have not seen anyone really write about it on a personal level because (1) it's embarrassing (2) people feel swindled (3) there is a lot of shame in losing a home. We have not lost our childhood home yet but it is a possibility. Mama Martini is excitable. She falls for these things. She is not stupid or anything like that, she is a little ill-informed. She's also a bandwagoner. I love her to death but Mama Martini has no one to reel her in anymore. Papa Martini was the one to do that and now, he's no longer here. We (the Martini sibs) had a sit down with her and my brother was so angry at the people who convinced her that using our childhood home as collateral for another one was a good idea. So, here it is. From Slate, an article that finally addresses the other side - the side that people who have been swindled feel. Thank goodness. I was wondering when this was going to happen. Hopefully, we don't lose th
