POPSHacker Trick Can Destroy Hardware The idea of Chinese cyberspies blowing up your hard drive isn't fun. But as with most stories like this, the researchers are showing a proof-of-concept of the vulnerability, not an imminent threat.

POPSWill The Mac OS Run Windows Apps? To translate this from the geek speak: Apple may be adding code into their newest operating system which would allow user to run Windows software, natively, from within the Mac OS. Right now, you have to run a special program, and run windows inside of that -- or else boot your computer into Windows entirely. If this is true, it would be huge -- and a major threat to Microsoft's domination of the OS market.

POPS3rd Party Apps Coming to the iPhone! Whoo! This is my #1 complaint with my iPhone. I'm running a hacked version of the 1.0.2 firmware just so I can run apps. The big question is whether apple will let the 'little guys' play or if this will be locked up via a digital signature, but they've got a pretty good history of being developer friendly. My recommendation would be to have 2 SDK's, one for developing mobile "widgets" that are fairly restricted (think flash apps, etc) and another class of apps that have to go through an approval process, but get more access to things like your contact list, etc.

POPSBattery updater for Macbook Pro released I've been having a little bit of trouble with my Macbook's battery. It usually runs a long time after a charge, but the "battery health" percentage has been going down since the day I bought it. It's at 88% now, but hit a worrying 74% yesterday. Hopefully this update will help me get a little more juice out of my mac and reflect the battery's remaining time and health more accurately.

POPSApple puts out fix for MacBook shutdowns Apple should advertise it in the next commercial. A PC guy comes out and he clicks on Start, then Shutdown, then Turn Off Your Computer then waiting for Saving Your Settings, Shutting Down... you know the whole ritual. In the meantime the Mac guy comes out, rolls his eyes up, takes half a breath and bingo - Mac has shut down as if it had ESP. Talk about easier to use and extremely user-friendly... Apple should push it as a feature, not come out with 'fixes' for it.
