POPS10 Fascinating Facts About Slavery According to studies done by anti-slavery groups, there are currently more slaves today than at any time in history! Three quarters are female and over half are children. It is believed that there are around 27 million people in slavery right now. Furthermore, this number does not include people who are not technically slaves but are in a form of servitude tantamount to slavery. This is sometimes called “unfree labor”. The average slave today costs around $90 - whereas in the past they cost upwards of $40,000 (in today’s money). A study done at Berkeley University estimates that there are around 10,000 slaves in the United States at the moment.

POPSWhy I Am a Socialist The corporation is designed to make money without regard to human life, the social good or impact on the environment. Corporate laws impose a legal duty on corporate executives to make as much money as possible for shareholders, although many have moved on to fleece shareholders as well. In the 2003 documentary film “The Corporation” the management guru Peter Drucker says: “If you find an executive who wants to take on social responsibilities, fire him. Fast.”

POPSCrimespotting: the new way to make money on the Internet Tony Morgan, who set up the site, said: “This could turn out to be the best crime prevention weapon there’s ever been. I wanted to combine the serious business of stopping crime with the incentive of winning money. Users will be awarded one point for spotting a suspected crime and three if they see an actual crime. They can also lose points if the camera operator decides that the alert was not a crime.

POPSCan you hear me now???? I had a former employee call me earlier today inquiring about a job, and at the end of the conversation he gave me his phone number. I asked the former employee if this was a new cell phone number and he told me yes this was his “Obama phone.” I asked him what an “Obama phone” was and he went on to say that welfare recipients are now eligible to receive (1) a FREE new phone and (2) approx 70 minutes of FREE minutes every month. I was a little skeptical so I Googled it and low and behold he was telling the truth. TAX PAYER MONEY IS BEING REDISTRIBUTED TO WELFARE RECIPIENTS FOR FREE CELL PHONES. This program was started earlier this year. Enough is enough, the ship is sinking and it’s sinking fast. The very foundations that this country was built on are being shaken.. The age old concepts of God, family, and hard work have flown out the window and are being replaced with “Hope and Change” and “Change we can believe in.”

POPSThe public are fast losing patience with thuggish policing From the author: “This (police) aggression is no doubt linked to the government's nasty habit of writing laws that prefer the convenience of security forces to the rights of free citizens. But the police are public servants, not government enforcers. Their job is to keep the peace, not clear the streets of dissent.” This steady evolution of laws being written to favor government instead of to protect its citizenry reeks of fascist idealism: Control the masses before they can do anything that might hint at voicing their opinion. The government’s fear stems from not being able to ‘control’ its citizens. The answer is simple, politicians should abandon their self-idealized role as ‘controllers’ and return to their intended function as public servants. Put the public’s needs first, stop lining your pockets with our money, stop setting up sweetheart deals with corporations, and listen to what the public has to say.

POPSKeynesian Borrowing Won't Solve Our Economic Problems Similarly, President Clinton and the Republican Congress applied the balanced budget rule in the mid 1990s, producing a long period of steady economic growth. Washington's response to the recession has been ever-expanding borrowing for stimulus packages and bailouts: (1) $150 billion in February; (2) $850 billion in October, and, coming soon; (3) Obama's $800 billion stimulus package. These packages are implementations of Keynesian economics which advocates increased government borrowing during recessions. But government borrowing has severe long-term costs. The late Milton Friedman, founder of the fiscally conservative alternative known as monetarism, often pointed out: "There ain't no free lunch!"

POPSHomeland Security Dominates Universities The author calls it Repress U , appropriately. Nothing is more threatening to totalitarian governments that open learning and scholarly examination of the Constitution versus the powers that be. Political tyranny is shattered by honest investigation, and cannot stand without force against vehement reprisal.

POPSIsland DIY: Kauai residents don't wait for state to repair road
This is a perfect example of how local communities can get things done without wasting money. The only reason gov't could not have done it so fast is because of archiac laws and processes that are in place that allowing contracting companies to take advantage of any $$ being put out for items like this and it is even worse a Federal level. One can't blame government employees since many want things to get done faster, better, and at a lower cost, but lobbyists, congress, and others get in the way and force them to spend our taxes dollars with specific contractors, etc. This example here shows that many have been milking the government (local, state, fed) out of $ for years and continue to do so with projects that can be done in days or weeks, instead of months or years. It is our tax dollars being wasted and it is time that we start demanding faster and less expensive delivery cycles at all levels of government and letting government managers get the best labor and the cheapest

POPSREFLECTIONS ON WORKING POOR, MIDDLECLASS AND AOHELL'S BLOG
I like blogs. They are like editorials from the ordinary, statements from the common person who work, pay bills, and pay taxes on her/his compensational wages. With this money she/he goes out, at the end of her/his hard workday, buys the things she/he needs and pays taxes again. What does she/he get in return for all her/his labors and double taxation. She/He gets the chance to get up the next day and do it all again. That's what it seems anyway, for the ordinary American middleclass person who is constantly climbing a greased pole trying to stay out of the ranks of the poor dangling below her/his suspension on this Achilles' heel of a pole. It has too fast become an inescapable failure for most to stay economically afloat. Two salaries per household and still they can't pass muster and avoid the catch-phrase "working poor". Please read http://www.aohell.com/archives/cat_americanpresidency.html or AOHELL'S blog, http://www.aohell.com/index.html Thanks, http://thinkingblue.blogspot.com
