" The Obama administration… and others who stand to profit by throwing literally millions out of work and relegating the US economy to second-rate status in the name of a discredited hoax. If anyone could be more pernicious and contemptible than the liberals currently dismantling our country, it's the perfidious pseudoconservatives who loot and profiteer along with them while sailing under a false flag."

“Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest.” Of course he readopted false patriotism later in the campaign when he figured out he’d need some to get elected, but he’s been elected, he’s president now, and he can do whatever he wants. Maybe now that he is president, it is real patriotism. But I’m going to guess that, much like giving a nod in speeches to America’s history of sacrifice in defense of freedom and the nation’s ongoing interests and obligations in that regard, this is one of those presidential things he just has to do.I kind of wish he’d speak out more on issues that are of importance to our national security , though. I’ve noticed lately that getting him to do that is like pulling teeth, and usually only done when it can’t be avoided ......

Hawaii False Killer Whales May Be Placed on Endangered Species List
celestialdancer
by celestialdancer  1-6-2010
"The dolphins can grow as long as 16 feet and weigh more than 1 ton. They resemble killer whales but are almost completely black instead of black and white. They're found in tropical and temperate waters worldwide, including Maryland, Japan, Australia and Scotland. But scientists estimate only about 120 live in waters up to 60 miles off Hawaii's coasts." Because False Killer Whales also exist in waters further out from Hawaii (known as the Pelagic population) Scientists are considering whether the "insular" stock should be considered as a "distinct population of animals under the endangered species act."

in this case perhaps as much as $50 million. (Hat tip: John O'Sullivan of the wonderful new campaigning site www.climategate.com) http://bit.ly/5GXss6 I wonder what took so long and how many other labs will be getting similar letters. An online friend reports that the BBC's science section, a former flogger of AGW has not mentioned one word about the subject so far this year--probably because the journos there are freezing as Britain and much of Europe faces bitter cold weather. The Guardian, however, ignores the freezing cold affecting so much of the globe in a story about how Peru's mountain people are dying out under the cold, reporting risibly that this group stands out in a world which is becoming increasingly warmer. Perhaps those reporters phoned in the story from a sauna in Lima. In a world growing ever hotter, Huancavelica is an anomaly. These communities, living at the edge of what is possible, face extinction because ..... by Clarice Feldman americanthin

The Emperor's New Clothes?
Socratoad
by Socratoad  12-31-2009    1
It was a branch of the French intelligence services that finally helped convince the U.S. government in 2004 that the bar codes were fake after they and the CIA commissioned another company to try to detect the messages and were unable to uncover anything. But by then Montgomery was already making headway with other software claims. His company got a contract with the Air Force to handle video shot by unmanned Predator drones. He claimed his program could recognize weapons in the surveillance video. In 2004 the U.S. Special Operations Command reportedly gave his company a $30 million no-bid contract for “compression” and “automatic target recognition” technology. Montgomery even got a security clearance. But a former worker told Playboy that he had helped fake some 40 demonstrations of the software.

The other Government control battle in our face the next few months is the communist and anti constitutional health care bill congress and this President are planning to cram down our parched throats. Second weapon used against us Radical Islam Islam has always wanted control of the world. Financed and radical groups since the 1920s have taught, preached and pursued a worldwide Caliphate of control. Their taught and known methods of doing this include silent and violent jihad world wide. The fundamentalists study and know our sensitive, our legal loopholes and ways to intimidate and scare us. Only on Christmas we saw the latest horror show on flight 253 by a wanna be Islamic martyr from Nigeria. It was a miracle the plane didn’t blow up.  The Soviet Union’s single party system was a failure due to it’s inability to withstand a dissident attack. The United States two-party system is simply the post-beta form of the Soviet-style political spectrum, with the guise of liberty upon it’s aging fangs. Holding Hands The word paradigm (paradigma), compounded from it’s Greek root word δείχνυμι “to show”, accurately describes the dimension between the left and right party. This paradigm requires a vice grip of social ideology held together for stability. A single party’s influence can break, without a backboard to cater towards any dissidence. Two parties can stand up against one another to create both geometrically and intellectually a more powerful structure that can withstand intense dissidence from each party for one reason: the rebellion of the first party’s ideals are reciprocated by the second.

Hot Air: Welcome to the Obama Administration’s “New Transparency”
merrie
by merrie  12-27-2009
I’m sure it is … for analysts and Fannie and Freddie workers, but I’m not sure taxpayers should share that optimism. The report states the U.S. Treasury will receive preferred stock paying 10% dividends and warrants to acquire nearly 80% of the common shares in Fannie and Freddie. However, the Treasury has already loaned $60 billion to Fannie and $51 billion to Freddie. At this point, it’s hard to believe more money is the answer. Maybe the New York Times was right: Democrats plan to talk about deficit reduction in 2010 but not do anything about it for now. Or as President Obama puts it: “Mr. Obama calls it “a false choice” to pit spending to spur the economy against reducing the deficit. His advisers say the president, and American voters, favor both " spending to create jobs in the short term, and commitment to spending discipline and deficit reduction over the long term.”

FALSE FLAGS

What foreign threat did they envisage as the United States’ most deadly enemy? Actually, the founding fathers believed one of our biggest enemies would rise from within: apathetic ignorance. Thomas Jefferson wrote, “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” One hundred and forty-five years later, President Eisenhower echoed Jefferson’s fear when he left office in 1961: In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and

Palin and those conservative women who aspire to be like her love living in ignorance. They have been eating, sleeping, and working in pollution so long that they not only believe that is just the way the air is, but they advocate the air is not polluted and actually good for you. They buy into that twisted kind of logic because their survival and identity depends upon it. The stress of having to pretend to be innately superior at all times and buy into this belief system is more than the human organism can tolerate so they become angry, hateful, intolerant wanna be bullies who aspire to have a Sarah Palin book under their Christmas tree. To challenge them or doubt them is akin to heresy. Too bad they are buying into the myth that states there is only one reality because it limits the search in seeking any understanding for other human beings. Sad and pathetic.

By imagining many possible worlds fiction can chang our Minds
einbar
by einbar  9-3-2009    2
"For more than two thousand years people have insisted that reading fiction is good for bookyou. Aristotle claimed that poetry—he meant the epics of Homer and the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, which we would now call fiction—is a more serious business than history. History, he argued, tells us only what has happened, whereas fiction tells us what can happen, which can stretch our moral imaginations and give us insights into ourselves and other people. This is a strong argument for schools to continue to focus on the literary arts, not just history, science, and social studies. But is the idea of fiction being good for you merely wishful thinking?'

20 GOP Senators Call for Investigation of Offutt Threat
merrie
by merrie  12-18-2009    3
Let’s be clear: the people spreading these falsehoods think nothing is wrong with a system under which families and businesses continue to bear the brunt of skyrocketing costs, insurance companies are allowed to discriminate and drop at will, and thousands of Americans lose their coverage every single day.” They protest a little too much. I do not know this story is "absolutely false." To the contrary, I'm confident it's true. Twenty senators are now calling for an investigation, and each is presumably pretty well sourced in the Senate. If the charges are "absolutely false," maybe the White House will encourage Senate Democrats to call this Republican bluff. I won't hold my breath. What is absolutely true is that the threat itself is clumsy. The Base Realignment and Closure Process won't get started again for a couple of years, and Offutt is a nearly irreplaceable piece of America's national security infrastructure.

India parliament uproar over Ayodhya mosque report
Nerfzilla
by Nerfzilla  11-23-2009
"I am stunned. I was shocked to see that the report has been leaked. I want to know who has leaked the report," senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani said in parliament. "If what is written is correct, the conclusions are false. There was no conspiracy, no planning. I was distressed by the demolition of the mosque." BJP leaders accused the Congress party-led government of "selective leaks" to distract attention from the economy and corruption - and demanded parliament see the report immediately. Home Minister P Chidambaram denied his ministry was behind the "unfortunate" leak. The angry opposition shouted: "No, it's not just unfortunate, it's shameful." Mr Chidambaram said Justice Liberhan's 900-page report was being translated into Hindi. The report is due to be put before parliament on 22 December, along with an "action taken report" by the government. The Indian Express newspaper reported the build-up to the demolition of the mosque had been meticulo
