POPSIs Starting An Internet Business Hard? Thousands of people go online every single day looking for ways to start an internet business, but the sad fact is that up to 95% of them fail. They usually give up after a while, frustrated and often broke. But why do people fail so miserably in trying to make money online from home?

POPSHere's what WON'T happen in 2010 Obama will stop blaming George W. Bush for his failures. Liberals will stop blaming George W. Bush for him failing to get them a date on eHarmony.com. After admitting that human behavior might not be causing global warming, Al Gore will get a real job. California will become a national model for state budgeting. The New Jersey Nets will waltz their way to an NBA championship. General Motors will become the world's most profitable carmaker. Despite Democrats' massive spending, taxes in America will fall. Huge new taxes to pay for ObamaCare will spur investors to pour billions into new businesses, igniting a wild economic boom overnight. Obama, America's first postpartisan president, will actually include Republican ideas in his agenda. The mainstream media will treat Sarah Palin fairly. and pundits will finally stop making stupid predictions.

POPSThe PTSD Nation - America the Traumatized This breaking of the national psyche was bound to happen; it's been decades in the making. American exceptionalism -- the idea that we are somehow better and more blessed than any other people on the face of the earth -- was bound to fail as our nation, like every other before it, found itself caught in the grinding wheels of history. The 2000 election, 9/11, Enron and WorldCom, Afghanistan, Iraq on a lie, Abu Ghraib, the USA Patriot Act, Guantánamo, Katrina and near economic collapse: each of these -- and many, many others -- challenged our sense of national identity, giving the lie to who we thought we were, and compromising a sense of safety, however delusional, that we once enjoyed. No longer were Americans exempt from the perils that face other nations. sneaked up behind us and whacked us in the head.

POPSWhen We Fail to Learn Our Lesson A good history read about what's been going on while we have all been focusing on American Idol, Brittany Spears, Football, political sex scandals, etc.... People who ARE paying attention are wondering why it has taken so long to connect the dots? Especially when our current President called the recent hijacker an “an isolated extremist,”. Extremist, yes; Isolated, no.

POPSAnother Bailout – GMAC To Get More Money GMAC says they want to prepare itself to repay the U.S. Government. Is taking more tax payer funds a necessary step before repaying the Government? I don’t know what kind of math GMAC is using to come up with an idiotic statement like that, but if it is the same math they use to balance the books at their retail bank (Ally Bank) then I would run as fast as I could away from that one. The mortgage-related write-downs to be announced as early as this week will affect assets held by ResCap and Ally Bank, GMAC’s online bank. Ally Bank was created after the company received approval in late 2008 to convert to a bank holding company and qualify for government money under TARP. The arrangement left the Federal Reserve with regulatory authority over the parent. From the Ally Bank web site: Who we are We are Ally Bank, built on the foundation of GMAC Financial Services. And with that experience we’ve learned that these times demand change .....

POPSAl Qaeda Failed. What About Us? al Qaeda has tried three separate plots using the same basic technique -- get on a transatlantic flight and blow it up before it lands and before the terrorists are put through our border screening process. Every plot has failed. But if this doesn't remind you of the successive World Trade Center attacks, you're not paying attention. They've got a schtick, and they're going to keep using it until it works. 4. Unfortunately, TSA, the part of DHS that screens air travelers, doesn't use the bigger terrorist databases for screening -- unlike DHS's border officials at CBP. Partly that's because Congress forced DHS to leave traveler screening in the hands of the airlines for the phony privacy reasons described above. But it's also because airline screening, unlike border screening, is not well designed to vary the level of screening depending on the risk a traveler poses. In shorthand, it is trying to find dangerous stuff, not dangerous people .

POPSAccept Defeat: The Neuroscience of Screwing Up The lesson is that not all data is created equal in our mind’s eye: When it comes to interpreting our experiments, we see what we want to see and disregard the rest. The physics students, for instance, didn’t watch the video and wonder whether Galileo might be wrong. Instead, they put their trust in theory, tuning out whatever it couldn’t explain. Belief, in other words, is a kind of blindness.

POPSLaws of Sustainability (3) Following Bartlett's logic, it's a case of do or die (if not, do and die), if not on the level of the individual, then on the level of humankind. People need to start to care for themselves (and others!) on the level of the species. The selfish individualism fostered by the consumer economy and the whole trash heap of economic growth theory needs to thrown overboard first, otherwise the boat will most certainly sink.

POPSBirds first, not your pesky moggie. It will never be enforced. Blackpool Council withdrew the mandate for Fishers Field in South Shore where it was said to have been left for children to play football - if there are any Americans reading this, that is the gentlemans game played by overpaid children, sorry soccer. I bumped into a former professional footballer who was taking his little boy and their dog on the field for exercise. Well not really! The child would get his exercise and the dog would have a shit. Okay, perhaps picked up by the intelligent soccer player. But the Parvo Virus cannot be picked up in a plassie bag!!! There are few dog owners who actually carry cleaning fluid along with all the accessories for cleaning up after their pets. Unfortunately they are so few, and the irrepsonsible so many.

POPSChimpanzees Dancing with Fire When it comes to understanding fire, chimpanzees might have a leg up not only on the rest of the animal kingdom, but also on those of us in the human species who would sprint in the other direction at the sight of a blaze. A study published in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology argues that these primates don’t panic when the flames start, and could even understand the basics about how fire behaves.
