"Long Live Linnaeus": a powerful & colorful force in the history of science
gingembre
by gingembre  5-21-2007
The Linneaeus Museum and Garden sound magnificent. I would love to see them and the Swedish countryside. More from the source: “When Linnaeus started, natural history was a mess, and people needed guidelines,” said Thierry Hoquet, an associate professor in the philosophy of science at the University of Paris X-Nanterre. “Do you know in Greek myth the story of how Ariadne fell in love with Theseus, and gave him a ball of string to help him find his way out of the Minotaur's Labyrinth? Linnaeus gave us the thread.”

by samui4hotel  9-17-2009
Today Koh Samui is one of the hot areas for holiday purposes. Housing many grand and numerous hotels, villas and residential cottages, it is a place to enjoy a thrilling and trouble free vacation. Koh Samui contains many lovely and lively bungalows for residence that can be rented out as well as wonderful hotels such as the Park Samui hotel. These bungalows and hotels are quite famous, since they offer excellent amenities such as airport transports, scuba diving, fishing excursions, deluxe interiors and large rooms. Samui hotel bookings is necessary as they tend to be full during the season. Koh Samui hotels are also famous for their lovely views of beaches and verdant green atmosphere. The Koli Phangai and the Ang Thong national park are hardly 1 km away from the main road near these hotels. These hotels are easily accessible, since they are hardly 15 minutes away from the Airport. These hotels have different types of rooms like the honeymoon rooms, superior hotel rooms and the stand

SF Author: Peter Fleming
skwirlinator
by skwirlinator  4-1-2006
In the summer of 1940 the Germans prepared to launch Operation Sea Lion, the invasion of England. The British, barely recovered from Dunkirk, rallied their defenses. Both sides operated in great secrecy and, because the invasion never took place, the dramatic preparations for what would have been one of the watershed battles of history faded from memory. Not, however, before Peter Fleming rescued this fascinating story from military archives and the recollections of survivors who were involved. Invasion 1940 (Operation Sea Lion)

SF Author: Gregory Frost
skwirlinator
by skwirlinator  3-30-2006
The Nebula, Hugo, Tiptree, International Horror Guild, and World Fantasy Award finalist takes you on a journey of wonders and nightmares. It's a midnight odyssey to a shadowland where vehicles feast on vagrants . . . where Poe's final days are revealed . . . where factory workers are exploited by an apparition of the Virgin Mary . . . and where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart pinwheels through the corridors of Time. On this pilgrimage we discover the apocalyptic entity that hides in a Ukranian village. We're taken to a crossroads where the Castle of Otranto bleeds into the Depression-Era South accompanied by the rollicking music of Kid Ory and Bix Beiderbecke. Frost's fourteen excursions include an account of the horror that dwells in Jack the Ripper's pocket watch, and features a brand new novella -- a slam-bang interplanetary "Road" picture peppered with Hope & Crosby japery and more than a dash of Flash Gordon. Power Company Destroys Tree House
Rustee
by Rustee  4-30-2008
CenterPoint’s goal is to keep the areas around power lines free and clear of obstructions, said Alicia Dixon, CenterPoint’s manager of public relations. But Dixon could not point to a document or set of guidelines that spelled out how close to power lines property owners could build. CenterPoint’s power line clearance standards document does not include any measurements, saying only that tree-pruning is based on clearances the company thinks are necessary to provide and maintain service reliability. Banuelos said the tree house was 12 feet away from the lines, a gap too big for any child to reach across, especially through the structure’s back wall. And according to neighbors, the house was built at least seven years ago.

Mini Cruise Breaks - Perfect Vacations for Short Holidays
davidsutikno
by davidsutikno  7-8-2009
European cruises are definitely a great way to spend your holiday. There are plenty options of cruises you can choose. Some of them offer you a nice city life tour, some more focus on cultural and historic experiences with great view of ancient buildings and others give you special features to visit small towns with beautiful scenery. Not enough said about the features, European cruises also have a lot of options to choose, start from which region you want to depart, what type of short excursions you want to have, how long you will you sail on the cruise, and so on. Climates and weather conditions will also be your big consideration to pick one of the best European cruises.

The Guided Tour, Disney Style
Rebecca Ruiz
by Rebecca Ruiz  8-4-2008
Disney deserves some credit for its latest push into the tourism market. Since 2005, the company has been quietly sending families on guided tours to places like Peru, Italy and England. The tours involve activities for both parents and children but don't have the feeling of being "Disneyfied". Put another way, these tours have some degree of authenticity and don't make participants feel like they're stuck in a theme park. Overall, it's a great concept for the brand.
