We are half-borns, say Planetmates. Only half-ready, more dependent, vulnerable at birth. "The Third Prasad" out
sillymickel
by sillymickel  Today 7:21 AM
This message begins to tell us how we are seen as different by all other species on Earth. We are seen as not quite ready for life when we are born, and we are seen as more vulnerable and more dependent on the good will of others for our very life. This is, indeed, a way in which we differ from all other beings. I believe it is called secondary altriciality. I'll check this out more and then elaborate on this.

What is radical? It is very difficult to stand back from a system that is everywhere in our culture because we have all been educationally, politically, economically, philosophically, and theologically trained in it, and our emotional, psychological, physical, and spiritual survival have depended on our knowing and supporting that system. It doesn't surprise me that any other beliefs are seen as sick, crazy, bad, stupid, hateful, or incompetent because it limits women who want to explore their own perceptions and abilities and it limits men who want to experience and learn from them. So RIP, it took a lot of guts to be radical enough to be a free thinker.

Like a Kid in a Candy Store
charlieprofit
by charlieprofit  1-6-2010
That's how I have felt today. Monday night I went to bed early, and didn't do my usual Social Media follow up and posting. When I was checking my email Tuesday morning I was was blown away to read that Seesmic.com bought Ping.Fm, and the news was released Monday! The one day I take a reprieve from "staying in the know" and I miss some big news. I'm pretty excited that two of the best social media apps are now, for all intents and purposes, one. It's no secret I am an early adopter to most technology, especially Internet/Social Media based. I know it drives some people crazy (including my wife) but I love technology! And have even made a lateral move in my own career into IT Solutions. So for me to miss something like this is unusual. I don't mean to give the impression I am in the know about everything going on in Social Media, but I usually am "tuned in" (if I may borrow a phrase from my radio career). To get the best reports on this development Ping's (http://bit.ly/81nCEG) a

Carbon Tax- UNCONSTITUTIONAL
mountainpalm
by mountainpalm  1-1-2010
This new French carbon tax was scheduled to go into law on Jan1, 2010. The tax was steep: 17 euros per ton of carbon dioxide (USD $24.40). In a stunning move, and surely a blow to warmists everywhere, the tax has been found unconstitutional and thrown out. Originally found here (Google Translation).

Like Convergence, Aggregation Is Better In Theory
wildcat
by wildcat  12-31-2009
an interesting take, see what Louis Gray says at the end:" I have to believe that aggregation tools are interesting, and useful to a small minority of people. Lifestreaming tools are fun for individuals to highlight their activity. Sites are out there that do a good job, and more are coming, but I am thinking that "aggregation" is the new "convergence". It looks great on paper, and some people will carry a Swiss Army Knife with them everywhere, but most won't.

What Would Israel Do?
Antara
by Antara  12-31-2009    5
" Still, the advice is sound, no matter that Obama will never even consider consulting the most successful air counterterrorism that the West has managed to produce. The difference between Israel and the dilettantes of the West is that the Israelis are determined to survive. Or at least they are determined that their demise will not be due to the actions of a bunch of homicidal maniacs dressed up in doctrinal disguise. The West, meanwhile, lives to avoid offending people: a sure recipe for cultural suicide."

Most of us will never be able to do the stunts and tricks this guy can do ... but hopefully he can still inspire us to try and do great things. And most importantly ... the video has over 50,000 votes and it's still rated 5 stars. He can do some pretty cool stuff with a bike. Enjoy!

In Hoc Anno Domini So the light came into the world
Jacob173
by Jacob173  12-24-2009    1
who heard strange voices or read strange manuscripts. There was enslavement of men whose tribes came not from Rome, disdain for those who did not have the familiar visage. And most of all, there was everywhere a contempt for human life. What, to the strong, was one man more or less in a crowded world? Then, of a sudden, there was a light in the world, and a man from Galilee saying, Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's. And the voice from Galilee, which would defy Caesar, offered a new Kingdom in which each man could walk upright and bow to none but his God. Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. And he sent this gospel of the Kingdom of Man into the uttermost ends of the earth. So the light came into the world and the men who lived in darkness were afraid, and they tried to lower a curtain so that man would still believe salvation lay with the leaders.

Have Yourself a Very Kitty Christmas!
mcsmithblack
by mcsmithblack  12-22-2009
"There sat Sebastian, happy as could be, perched on a branch deep in the tree. I’m sure he thought we had brought it home just for him." You mean you didn't?!!! More from the article below: "So when Sebastian didn’t show up right away, I knew he was up to something. I looked everywhere - under the beds, on top of shelves, in the manger. Yes, I said manger. The year before, my brother-in-law had made a beautiful ceramic manger for my husband and me. Of course Sebastian thought it was his, and proceeded to knock over camels, sheep, Mary and Joseph so that he could curl up in the straw next to baby Jesus. I think he felt slighted that no barn cats showed up in traditional nativity scenes. Point taken."

The storm prompted our Governor to declare a state of emergency in West Virginia on Saturday. I was on the road with a crew from 9 to 5 in charge of snow removal and one of my clients actually measured the snow for me--20 inches worth of it. The interchanges were horrible at one point with abandoned cars and trucks everywhere.
