POPSOfficials in Southern California Prepare For Inevitable Nuclear Attack, Thanks to SmartPower™
"Hollywood is raising awareness about the aftermath of a mega disaster and what needs to be done to survive," Kondo said. Experts are especially concerned about the possibility that Iran one day could launch ship-based nuclear missiles, said Brian Kennedy, president of The Claremont Institute's Ballistic Missile Defense Project. "The West Coast of the U.S. has limited missile defense against a North Korean missile," Kennedy said. "And, unfortunately, we're almost completely vulnerable to a ship-launched ballistic missile attack." Kennedy is also concerned a ship-launched nuclear missile detonated at a high altitude would create an electromagnetic pulse, possibly destroying electronic equipment and knocking out the nation's power grid - leaving the country with little or no communications and no ability to provide food and water to potentially hundreds of millions of people. http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/0DE6BA09-9CE6-4770-9518-2CF80C3C9054/

POPSUnion Calls NBC Grinch....Threatens Strike During Tree Lighting
The union is accusing NBC of growing "increasingly hostile, ignoring the concerns of the union's membership," and it has created a Web site, NBCStoleChristmas.com, to promote its cause. "We can't let the Grinch at NBC steal another Christmas from thousands of honest working people," NABET-CWA Local 11 President Ed McEwan said in a news release. "This charade must stop. Christmas is supposed to be a time of goodwill, but the network's management is trying to hide behind their fancy lights while leaving their employees in the dark." The union says it represents nearly 3,000 of NBC's producers, writers and technicians. NBC Universal fired back at the union in a statement saying the union canceled three days scheduled for negotiations, Nov. 18, 19 and 20, and has not offered alternative dates. "Progress can only be made in labor negotiations when the parties are negotiating," the statement read. "It is unfortunate that the union is resorting to threats as opposed to meeting its

POPS'Miracle on the Hudson' Pilot Capt. Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger to Return to N.Y., Cockpit Thursday
He has also been given a spot on US Airways's flight operations safety management team. Sullenberger, 58, had taken a break from flying to write an autobiography and required catch-up training before he could get back in the cockpit. Despite being the nation's most celebrated and trusted pilot, Sullenberger had to go back to ground school, take some new simulator training and fly with a captain from the training department. "The months since January 15 have been very full, and my family and I have had some unforgettable experiences," Sullenberger said in a statement. "However, I have missed working with my colleagues at US Airways and I am eager to get back in the cockpit with my fellow pilots in the months ahead." "Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters," Sullenberger's engaging account of his life and the crash - in which his calm Gary Cooper-esque personality shines - comes out in October. "We welcome Capt. Sullenberger back to work and

POPSPentagon Planning Deployment of Troops in Support of Nationwide Vaccination It is worth noting that this involvement of the military is not being decided by the President, but by the Secretary of Defense, which suggests that the Pentagon is, in a key issue of of national interest, overriding the President and Commander in Chief. The US Congress has not been consulted on the issue. This decision to mobilise the Armed Forces in the vaccination campaign is taken in anticipation of a national emergency. Although no national emergency has been called, the presumption is that a national public health emergency will occur, using the WHO Level 6 Pandemic as a pretext and a justification.

POPS Military planning for possible H1N1 outbreak Civilian authorities would lead any relief efforts in the event of a major outbreak, the official said. The military, as they would for a natural disaster or other significant emergency situation, could provide support and fulfill any tasks that civilian authorities could not, such as air transport or testing of large numbers of viral samples from infected patients. As a first step, Gates is being asked to sign a so-called “execution order” that would authorize the military to begin to conduct the detailed planning to execute the proposed plan. Orders to deploy actual forces would be reviewed later, depending on how much of a health threat the flu poses this fall, the officials said. Source: CNN

POPS Government Motors "Long Live GM" “We don’t think that after this next $30 billion, they will need more money,” one administration official said. “But the fact is there are things you don’t know — like when the car market will come back, and how much Toyota and Honda and Volkswagen will benefit from the chaos.” ] In other words, if Toyota and Honda and Ford and all the other non-nationalized car manufacturers keep doing a better job than GM of making cars Americans actually want to buy then the government will continue to use your tax dollars to bail out GM. Why? Because Obama and the Democrats have decided that they need to keep General Motors alive as a host for the union parasites at the UAW. Meaning that the rest of you working schlubs out there are going to have to pay more taxes to subsidize the union wages of the Chrysler and General Motors employees. If you’re thinking that sounds like a crappy deal, it is.

POPSDrupal Training for Newbies What a great way to introduce community members to the power of content management systems like drupal. I think it would be great to bring a bunch of people together to sponsor one or two of these training sessions. Maybe I'll get around to creating an eCampaign to gather together the interested parties, lord knows that the nonprofits around here really need to get on the web2.0 bandwagon and interact and learn from their client-constituents! I'm sick of knowing more than the people in charge, but not having any way to communicate what I know, and be heard. That is all about to end- the real benefits of the internet are upon us.

POPSThe Limitations of Econometric Computer Models A nearly identical pattern emerged in our present financial collapse, beginning with the subprime mortgage meltdown. Some of the world’s most sophisticated computer jocks modeled some of the most complex financial instruments in history. A vast network of risk swaps among the world’s major financial players was constructed to hedge against all foreseeable risks. However, the computer modelers failed to foresee combinations of circumstances that would quickly undermine the risk protections built into their models. Once again, unanticipated confluences of market conditions kicked the slats from under this vast financial structure. To dig out of this economic debris, the nation is rolling the dice with the largest financial wager ever made: President Obama’s stimulus bill.

POPSWork place bullying........... Imagine yourself sitting at a conference table and you offer something as a suggestion and someone looks at you and shakes their head every time,” said Joel H. Neuman, director of the center for applied management at the SUNY-New Paltz School of Business. “It can be damaging to be constantly dismissed in front of your peers,” Dr. Neuman said. “The thing that is upsetting about it is that people come to expect it and say, ‘Well, this is what it’s like around here.’ It shouldn’t be part of the culture, but often it is.

POPSDemocrats' 'F' Troop Just a general assessment of the *current* climate in Iraq and in the US. Despite every negative event that can be scrounged up, there is hope in Iraq for the US to be able to successfully turn the security and management of Iraq over to their elected government. It's happening even now. The rest is up to them That is not to deny that there maybe/will be in-fighting and jockeying for power. The US, and others, most certainly will maintain a "presence" in the Country. It would be foolish, in light of our national and personal investments, to do otherwise. But the Democrats *apparent* desire for defeat, failure and dishonorable withdrawal won't be there. Shame, shame on them.
