IPCC's Dr Rajendra Pachauri: TERI-Europe, The Enigma
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 4:25 AM    4
First, as we reported yesterday, we have the 30,417 donated by DEFRA, paid to TERI Europe via Cambridge University to cover Pachauri's salary and travel in producing a Synthesis Report of the IPCC AR4. Then, gleaned from the IRS return submitted by TERI-NA (North America) for the financial year ending in 2009, we get the information that a $27,000 donation was made by the Germehausen Foundation, "to support outreach efforts on the fourth assessment report of the IPCC." The cash was remitted to TERI India, its obvious intended recipient being R K Pachauri. Now we have the European Climate Foundation which, in the grant year 2009, makes a donation of an unspecified amount, direct to TERI India. This is to "facilitate meetings between Dr R K Pachauri and key European decision makers in support of an international agreement on climate change." This one should be of special interest to James Delingpole who reveals in his latest piece that he has a family friend who works .....

Snowstorm strikes US East Coast ~ Five dead as snowstorm engulfs US East Coast A winter storm is gripping the eastern US, dumping up to 16in (40cm) of snow in some areas, snarling up travel and cutting power supplies. Incidents thought to be storm-related claimed five lives and forecasters warned of 35mph (56km/h) winds in what may be the worst snowstorm in a decade. The 16in which fell at Reagan National Airport outside Washington was the most ever recorded on a single December day. The storm system is moving north toward New York and Boston. Parts of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts could see more than 16in by Sunday night while as many as 10in may land on New York City, forecasters said. http://bit.ly/55xEag Emergency teams are trying to restore power to thousands of homes in the south of France after the worst blizzard conditions in two decades. What The Russian Papers Say
merrie
by merrie  12-18-2009    1
..... into its project for a new world order. To do so, it wants to transform the alliance. Though NATO's role is still to defend Europe from Russia, its other function is gradually coming to the fore - that of being an instrument to use force outside Europe. The U.S. and Europe consider Russia "harmless" and weak and believe NATO can refocus on supporting American policy outside Europe. In exchange, Russia is offered the West's recognition of the status quo in Europe and postponement of admission to NATO of Ukraine and other former Soviet republics. Russia has been recognized as a regional power, but only to a certain extent and only in exchange for its help. These arrangements will stand as long as the U.S. is interested in cooperation with Moscow on specific issues. The current session of cooperation with NATO is unlikely to bring Moscow long-term military and political dividends - particularly in the face of growing risks from further involvement in Afghanistan.

I wish I could stop reading about this kinda' stuff. Every day it's something worse. At every turn Obama undermines the security of us and our allies....and those in Congress seem so fixated on passing a sinking Health Care Bill to realize that it's NOT our first priority. Those who do not see the horrific danger that a nuclear Iran poses have their heads in the sand.

Flowchart: Medieval sexual decision making for penitentials
haraya
by haraya  8-22-2007    3
In his book "Law, Sex, and Christian Society in Medieval Europe," James Brundage creates a truly fantastic flow chart explaining when one can and (mostly) cannot engage in the physical act of love. At the time, a lot of Christian theology basically took the form of lists of things one wasn't allowed to do, so this flow chart probably isn't far off from the real decision making process prescribed by the church.
