Republican Re-Education Camps?
Jorjor
by Jorjor  5-7-2009    1
MN Representative Michelle Bachmann (Schlockmann?) went ballistic and called AmeriCorps a system of "re-education" camps". It turns out that Rush and his GOP butt-kissers are the ones actually talking about "re-education". Those will be the placces where the staff uniforms include flip-flops. You have to give Cantor credit for having a spine more flexible than a cat's. Back in 1960, people were worried that a Democratic win would mean a White House controlled by the Vatican. It would seem that the Republicans are being controlled from a radio studio in Palm Beach Florida.

Inside The GOP Lie Machine: The Hangman and Health Care Reform
zizzy
by zizzy  9-30-2009
"The insurance industry is up to the same dirty tricks, using the same devious PR practices it has used for many years, to kill reform," says Wendell Potter, who stepped down last year as chief of corporate communications for health insurance giant CIGNA. "I'm certain that people showing up at these town halls feel that they're there on their own — but they don't realize they're being incited, ultimately, by the insurance industry and the other special interests." Armey, however, unabashedly compares FreedomWorks to a lynch mob. "We used to use the old saying in the West, that you got outta town just one step ahead of the hangman," he says, explaining why George Bush's budget-busting policies didn't inspire the same outrage among his 400,000 followers. "That's pretty much what happened with Bush. And poor old President Obama walked into town, y'know, just at high noon." more @ source related http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/0E8658BD-956E-47FE-AD32-CB3C9175F

Social change could spark violence
ratilfar
by ratilfar  9-26-2009    5
And this week, the FBI said that it is investigating whether anti-government sentiment played a role in the death of a U.S. Census worker who was found hanged from a tree in rural Kentucky, because the body had the word “fed” scrawled on the chest — though authorities say there are too many unanswered questions at this point to rule the case a homicide or a hate crime. There’s a big difference, of course, between a person who shouts at a congressman at a town hall and a person who would do something much more violent. But security experts say that the shouting incidents and other angry moments in recent weeks serve as indicators of an increase in political rage in the culture. That rage comes against a backdrop of enormous changes in American life. The United States suffered a humiliating economic collapse that threatens its long-term position as the world’s most important economy, with a staggering 9.7 percent unemployment rate. President Barack Obama made several controversial

45% Of Doctors Would Consider Quitting If Congress Passes Health Care Overhaul
merrie
by merrie  9-17-2009    1
45% Of Doctors Would Consider Quitting If Congress Passes Health Care Overhaul From IBDeditorials.com Two of every three practicing physicians oppose the medical overhaul plan under consideration in Washington, and hundreds of thousands would think about shutting down their practices or retiring early if it were adopted, a new IBD/TIPP Poll has found. The poll contradicts the claims of not only the White House, but also doctors’ own lobby " the powerful American Medical Association " both of which suggest the medical profession is behind the proposed overhaul. It also calls into question whether an overhaul is even doable; 72% of the doctors polled disagree with the administration’s claim that the government can cover 47 million more people with better-quality care at lower cost. Pfft " What the bleep do they know? (/sarc) The willingness of a professional organization to betray its own members’ interests is the real story here.

Trial Lawyer Medicare Bonanza Averted — For Now
merrie
by merrie  8-16-2009    2
a lawyer who formerly served on the staff of the House Judiciary Committee and describes himself as a “lifelong Democrat.” In a July 24 article in BNA’s Medicare Report, Goldberg wrote that the provision “would completely redefine healthcare litigation in this country by allowing freelance lawyers, without any checks and balances from Medicare, to sue anyone they could accuse of causing Medicare to spend money on its beneficiaries.” The measure would let lawyers file suits against whole classes of defendants based, not on the evidence in an individual case, but on ‘relevant statistical or epidemiological evidence.’ The good news is that the provision was removed during a mark-up session"thanks to the efforts of Republican Reps. Dave Camp of Michigan and Eric Cantor of Virginia and to some Democrats as well. The bad news is that it got into the bill in the first place"and that it could easily make a reappearance as the legislation moves through Congress.

Last month, Politico reported that Emanuel had “launched a coordinated effort to jam” Senator Kyl and other Administration critics… “ fter seeing Kyl and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) again paint the legislation as a failure on Sunday talk shows, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel directed that the letters from the Cabinet secretaries be sent to Brewer, according to two administration officials.” Issa noted, “The fact that the letters were coordinated by you to maximize the level of intimidation is supported by the timing, structure, and content of each letter. Not only were the four letters all sent the day following Senator Kyl’s remarks, but they were also remarkably similar in tone and sentence structure.”

Come on now...isn't it a bit premature to be claiming that President Obama's decisions have not worked. And isn't it a bit absurd to be complaining because we don't have "prosperity" back. I really think this notion that prosperity is an entitlement for Americans is ludicrous. We had our prosperity and we got drunk on it...and now we're paying for it. The idea that we can just have it back seems like a load of you know what. I have no idea if Obama's economic decisions will prove to work or not...but i do know that politicians who are already ranting and raving that they "haven't worked" are doing nothing to help the country.

Top Republican: Stem Cells a 'Distraction'
Wisco
by Wisco  3-8-2009    3
A couple of points here. First, the ban on federal funding embryonic stem cell research was an executive order -- it'll take no time to reverse. The time it'll take away from focusing on the economy is roughly equal to the time Cantor will take for lunch Monday. Second, how powerless has the evangelical right become that a top Republican can basically say, "Stem cell research? Pffft! Who cares about that?" It wasn't that long ago that Republicans were saying that the research was pretty much equal to a second Holocaust. Apparently, the Republican party no longer feels the need to kiss up to the religious right.

Pelosi Dismisses Bi-Partisanship
merrie
by merrie  2-8-2009
Pelosi — speaking to reporters on the second day of her retreat with House Democrats at a swank Williamsburg, Va., golf resort — was clearly annoyed with Senate attempts to slash up to $100 billion in spending from the $819 billion package the House passed last week. At the same time, she urged the need for speed in passing the package — and stopped short of saying that she’d insist on her demands during upcoming conference negotiations with the Senate.

"Own It" President Obama
merrie
by merrie  1-28-2009    1
The Democratic leadership on Capitol Hill badly miscalculated by treating the bill as a victor's charter. Not that it seemed to bother Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, who grinned from ear to ear as she announced the result of the vote. Obama said yesterday he did not feel he had ownership of the bill. Be that as it may, if it goes through the Senate in similar fashion and is signed into law then - the efforts of Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid notwithstanding - it will be his and his alone. "They keep comparing this to Eisenhower, but he proposed a $500 billion highway system, and they're going to put $30 billion" in roads and bridges, he said. "How farcical can you be? Give me a break." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/27/AR2009012703655_pf.html

Boehner Tells GOP to Vote Against Stimulus
Wisco
by Wisco  1-27-2009    1
I know Obama's going with the "post-partisan" thing of his, but if the Republicans aren't willing to move beyond partisanship, then he should say, "Screw 'em." He doesn't need their votes, their input is inane in its Hooverism, and they're being obstructionist for political gain. Maybe Republicans need a demonstration of just how irrelevant this BS has already made them. Steamroller them, get the stimulus you want, then invite the GOP to work with you on the next issue. If the lesson still hasn't sunk in, do it again. And again. Make every Republican member of Congress run with a record of complete ineffectiveness in their next reelection campaigns. And they think they got their asses kicked last time...
