POPSPeople give birth and die on Facebook (internet actually)
The thing about Facebook and Twitter is that unlike earlier times on the Internet, these two companies have shaped the perception of people connected to each other more closely than ever before. Everyone is on-line on FB or Twitter or both!. Not that people were not connected earlier via email or email groups (and some exclusively still are), but FB and Twitter are humongous instant messenger type services where everyone perceives as something where you know others are on (email does not give a perception that you are on and individual instant-messenger were always individual). So as Facebook comes up with ideas on what to do with people who are dying on the internet, I think they should also come up with some special arrangements when people are born. I'm not talking about some FB application (I hate them and they are annoying). There is no denying that babies are being born on Facebook every day (it sounds weird but that is a truth).

POPSA bold prediction about Google Wave I'm not saying it won't happen, but to declare with such certainly that a service that hasn't even been used by more than a handful of people will overtake email and social networking seems a bit premature.

POPSTop 5 Current Email Scams You Should Know About continued...........Virus E-Mails Many people who want to scam you will create programs and spy applications that will send them your bank details as soon as you use any online monetary service. They normally skulk around in the attachments of e-mails. Many scammers will find a funny picture or video and will send it to as many people as they can. They are getting into the mindset of your typical office worker who will forward the e-mail to all his/her family, friends and co-workers. When these email scams are successful, scammers can often retrieve thousands of peoples details. Think about it. If they send it to one person who then sends it to thirty, each of these people will again send it to all their contacts. Hundreds of peoples’ details all in a very short space of time.

POPSPresumably you have a Gmail account, and do not object to Google's policies From article. Full article at source. "If Google builds a database of keywords associated with email addresses, the potential for abuse is staggering. Google could grow a database that spits out the email addresses of those who used those keywords. How about words such as "box cutters" in the same email as "airline schedules"? Can you think of anyone who might be interested in obtaining a list of email addresses for that particular combination? Or how about "mp3" with "download"? Since the RIAA has sent subpoenas to Internet service providers and universities in an effort to identify copyright abusers, why should we expect Gmail to be off-limits? "

POPSflag@whitehouse.gov Throws 3rd Party Groups Under The Bus in Email-Gate The White House told FOX News that third-party groups sending online petitions to the official administration Web site could be to blame for a rash of e-mails that have gone out to people who never requested them. The theory is that these groups are including the names and e-mails of members and petition-signers along with the petitions themselves, in turn embedding those e-mails into the White House distribution list. Are there other data mining methods that the White House used to attain individuals emails? Many people who have received the unwanted WH emails have stated that they they’re not members of any organization and have not been advocating for any cause. “I find it very disturbing and a little scary to say the least,” said Sarah Griffith, who got a widely circulated e-mail on health care reform from senior adviser David Axelrod last week. “I have no idea how they got my e-mail address, and they have it.”

POPSFreezing / Microwaving Plastic Containers Releases Cancer-Causing Dioxin Someone in my family recently died of cancer. So naturally, we all became a little more serious about collecting information on its causes. I remember something about how freezing water in plastic bottles releases dioxin and that it was purported to have come from John’s Hopkins. Well, come to find out the claim falsely used Johns Hopkins as the source. Freezing water in plastic bottles does not release dioxin. Neither does using plastic to heat food in a microwave. However, there is still a question about heating fatty foods in plastic containers. Also, I learned recently that using those ‘one-use’ type plastic containers in which butter, whipping cream, etc are sold should never be used in a microwave. To be safe you really should use only glass. Just thought you might want to know.
