POPSBoing Boing: How I learned to love my persimmon tree Lots of good discussion in the comments - how to choose a persimmon, how to ripen them, things to do with them, why you do not want to eat underripe persimmons, and much more. Persimmons are a family favorite, and I guess we must just have dumb luck with ripening them - the problems people describe here with being unable to ripen them are all new to me. (For the record, the family persimmon-ripening method: Place persimmon stem-side down on the kitchen counter, not in direct sun. Leave it there. Pick up once or twice a day to check whether it's getting soft yet. *shrug* It's always worked for us - we've never needed any of the tricks people mention in this post's comments.)

POPSHome Remedies For Bad Breath Bad breath, also known as halitosis, is a very common temporary condition caused by such things as oral dryness, stress, hunger (ketosis), eating certain foods such as garlic and onions, smoking, or poor oral hygiene. Bad breath is caused by odor-producing bacteria that grow in the mouth. When people don't brush and floss regularly, bacteria accumulate on the bits of food left in the mouth and between the teeth. The sulfur compounds released by these bacteria make the breath smell.

POPSBulimia Nervosa Disorder As a recognized eating disorder, bulimia nervosa (BN) is in its infancy, having only come under medical and psychological scrutiny in 1979 . According to the National Eating Disorders Association , bulimia nervosa is “characterized by a cycle of bingeing and compensatory behaviors such as self-induced vomiting designed to undo or compensate for the effects of binge eating.” Although most people with bulimia nervosa can maintain a normal weight, the disorder is brutal, exerting a tremendous strain on virtually every major system and organ in the human body. The strain bulimia nervosa puts on one’s mental health can also be ferocious, inciting intense feelings of depression, guilt, disgust and shame .

POPSBudgeting Time? Times' "Your Money" Ron Lieber suggests we skip the dreaded "B" word and try out a free web site to sort expenses. A good idea for small businesses owners and everyone. Why not take control over the things we can control like discretionary spending? Most small business owners fund at least some of the business with personal savings. Might be time to keep an even closer eye on the personal budget.
