Learning’s online fate ,The digital age challenges teachers, teaching, books
wildcat
by wildcat  12-25-2009    2
"This expansive, open age of digital information challenges the traditions of scholarship, learning, and even the act of reading. So what will be the fate of higher education in the digital age?" An important understanding concerning the changing face of higher education, we need more panels of this kind to fully realize the revolution taking place.

More and more e-books being stored on the 'cloud'

It will be very interesting to see which of these approaches becomes the preferred option, and especially how popular "demand" affects "price". Given the increasing availability of "annotation" services that overlay web content and the increasing demands on personal time, it is easy to anticipate that "user generated" annotation content may well become the modern equivalent of the Reader's Digest "condensed" book.

and to some I don't. Thanks for all the interesting stuff to read every day. I read a lot of books, news papers, blogs, etc. The most interesting thing I read each and almost every day are the clips and comments of those I follow at clipmarks. Thanks for being the source of much valuable information and perspective. Merry Christmas.

Happy Birfday, Charles Dickens' "Christmas Carol"
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  12-19-2009    1
more: Interestingly, there is no mention of the following in Dickens' A Christmas Carol: -Christmas tree -wrapped gifts -Anything related to The Nativity (wise men, baby Jesus), although there are plenty of homeless parents all through Dickens' works. While such values as charity, family, and universal goodwill certainly fall well within the Christian tradition, the book is not explicitly Christian much beyond the wish that "God bless us, everyone." Actually, that feels quite Anglican. ;-) There is no mention of Santa Claus per se, but the Ghost of Christmas Present is a big Oðin-like viking spirit, in a green fur-trimmed robe, bare chested and hearty. You know GoCP is going to the holiday swingers party once he drops off Scrooge.[/quote[

Breaking: Obama’s “Safe Schools Czar” Is Promoting Child Porn in the Classroom– Kevin Jennings and the GLSEN Reading List
MichaelEhline
by MichaelEhline  12-11-2009    1
Scott Baker from Breitbart-TV.com and Co-Host of ‘The B-Cast‘ submitted this shocking report today on Obama’s deviant Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings. "-Warning on Content"" I was recently approached by a team of independent researchers that I have known for some time and have come to trust. They prepared this report involving ‘Safe Schools Czar’ Kevin Jennings and the organization he founded, GLSEN, and asked that I find a way to help draw attention to what they uncovered.

Obama's Safe Schools Czar Tied to Lewd Readings for 7th Grade

What took Fox so long to report this? I've been reading about this guy for over a week! Someone wants to comfort sexually confused children (mostly thanks to the current culture they are growing up in), fine...do it. Just leave the rest of the innocents alone whose hardest thing they're dealing with is remembering to bring in their homework. The very WORST is that this man has such oversight. Parents...guard your children.

Kids to Meet Marx in School
dl211
by dl211  12-8-2009    7
These two books have now become the basis for a new documentary, entitled The People Speak, to be aired December 13th at 8pm on the History Channel. The trailer portrays the documentary as a collage of compelling one-person readings, told through the words of “ordinary” people who have struggled throughout American history against oppression. Produced by Zinn, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Chris Moore, the documentary appears to be cloaked, ironically (given Zinn’s admitted socialist agenda), in many of the traditional ideas that were behind our founding. The verdict is still out on the doc, but it is not for the books that inspired the film as well as the educational initiative associated with it. Perhaps due to their one-sided perspective of America’s past, Zinn’s history books have largely been limited to colleges and universities, until now. In the press release announcing the broadcast, HISTORY introduced a partnership with VOICES Of A People’s History Of The United States, a no
