POPSWarning: U.S. Government Becoming Martial, Unconstitutional So warns this life-long republican and military son. Nor is the election of Obama a settling of that matter he says. "Our Constitution is at risk". : While serving the State Department in several senior capacities over the past four years, I witnessed firsthand the quiet, de facto military takeover of much of the U.S. government. What a testimony from the inside, from a person of credibility! For those who doubt or downplay this talk, here is a witness that has taken the public stand. The Constitution is virtually overthrown, and the Courts are the last bastion and remnant of resistance (against domestic spying, PATRIOT ACT, REAL ID, posse comitatus violations, etc), before the people must resist collectively and personally themselves. If the courts are lost then true patriots will become outlaws and fugitives from Injustice of a Rogue Government

POPSThomas Tamm - Leaker and Criminal When the Obama Justice Department gets operational, the new Attorney General will decide whether to continue investigating Tamm. That decision presumably will be made with guidance from the White House and President Obama. Obama was a vocal opponent of the terrorist surveillance program, although he ultimately voted for Congress' authorization of a very similar program in the midst of the presidential campaign, angering many on the left. Obama will have to decide whether he wants to uphold federal law and protect sensitive information by vigorously pursuing people like Mr. Tamm who violate the public trust.

POPSBush Spy Revelations Anticipated When Obama Is Sworn In
One encouraging sign for civil liberties groups is that John Podesta, president of the Center for American Progress, is a key figure in Obama's transition team, which will staff and set priorities for the new administration. The center was a tough and influential critic of the Bush administration's warrantless spying. Among the unanswered questions: * Were there quid pro quo promises made to the phone companies and internet carriers who cooperated with the secret spying? For example, were co-conspirators promised lucrative government contracts? * Did the program appropriate the CALEA wiretapping infrastructure? Under CALEA, Congress forced telecoms to build surveillance capabilities into the phone and internet network, but promised it would only be used with court orders. * What did the first version of the surveillance program sweep into its net? In March 2004, a squadron of top officials at the Justice Department, including then-Attorney

POPSObama's New World Order; "Change" is Required Listen carefully to the words of Obama's symbolic Berlin speech. We know the "war on terrorism" will continue from his debates with McCain, his view of Israel is similar, that the Surveillance State in America will continue to expand (his FISA domestic spying expansion vote), that he will NOT repeal the PATRIOT ACT, Homeland Security, REAL ID, or other anti-constitutional Executive Orders or legislation passed by the Bush-neocon administration. He will make use of the same apparatus for the same "global transformation". "Common security" (for their order ) is still being pled in his speech based upon 9/11. The "new world order" agenda of Social Change (under plea of "common humanity", despite any other distinctions) will be dictated and you will be required to adopt it, like it or not. Listen again. The burdens of global citizenship.....Americans and Europeans will be required to do more; partnership and cooperation is not a choice".

POPSConflict Over Spying Led White House to Brink Cont.... Joel Brenner and Vito Potenza, the two men wilting under Addington's wrath, had driven 26 miles from Fort Meade, the NSA's eavesdropping headquarters in Maryland. They were conducting a review of their agency's two-year-old special surveillance operation. They already knew the really secret stuff : The NSA and other services had been unleashed to turn their machinery inward, collecting signals intelligence inside the United States. What the two men didn't know was why the Bush administration believed the program was legal.

POPSJohn McCain Comedy Club One commenters response: "Your snarky sarcasm proves that McCain's ads are definitely arousing fear in those who do not wish McCain to win." We are in fear of a McBush win because America's downward spiral of world opinion towards us, our economy, or ethical and moral values, our morale as a nation under siege by neocon intelligence gathering goons at the NSA and Homeland security needs to stop and McBush has vowed to continue Bush's attack on all of us through his shredding of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

POPSThe Pentagon's "Get Smart" Plan This has got to be a joke. The Pentagon "disestablished" the "CIFA" office yet "those responsibilities will now be carried out by a new organization called the Defense Counterintelligence and Human Intelligence Center". WHAT? They shut down one unit only to have another office do the same thing under a different name???? Why not use "The Cone of Silence" and save everyone the trouble of moving boxes from one office to the other? Note to the Pentagon: I think Control and KAOS are easier acronyms to remember ;)

POPSWhere has all the money gone, long time passing? Here in Italy, we too have our problems mind you? Out sourcing is even in the schools and social services.... and in all public institutions..... Berlusconi, an international buddy of Bush's is back...... This is an eerie era.....

POPSimpeachment This should go ahead. We cannot have one country's leader being impeached by the International Court and another getting away with high crimes and misdemeanors.

POPSLawsuit to Counter Spy Bill Promised The constitution is supreme law over all legislation, period. ACLU promises a needed legal challenge. No tyranny permitted even if legislated. A legislative act, contrary to the Constitution, is not law.--Supreme Court Justice John Marshall

POPSSenate Approves Telecom Immunity & Spy Bill Proof the democrats (e.g. Obama) are not safer than the neocon controlled republicans: 4th Amendment trampled, violators now immune. This is not "compromise", but capitulation. For more indepth interview with the Telecom (AT&T) technician and whistleblower who discovered Americans were being spied on, listen to the Democracy Now interview here.

POPSObama caves on the spy bill Great, get others to spy for you and then go to congress to give them immunity. No, I don't feel like my civil liberties are being eroded.

POPSThe UK REAL ID Program Same as the US but more blatant spying. The US REAL ID incorporates the social security number from which all financial, medical, credit and personal info can be data-mined easily. Here the UK admits open collection of a broad amount of information. The UK does not have a bill of rights and the US acts like it does not. "Membership has its privileges" could be their slogan, without this you cannot "buy or sell".

POPSACLU on FISA 'Compromise' It's pretty safe to describe the American Civil Liberties Union as not fans of the House's cave in on FISA and immunity for telcoms. If Nancy Pelosi's still the speaker in the next session, something is very, very wrong with the Democratic party. I can't think of any Democrat who's done a worse job with the gavel. ACLU's Caroline Fredrickson basically calls House members cowards -- it's hard to disagree.

POPSDems Agree to Expand Domestic Spying, Grant Telecoms Amnesty This is the "chilling effect". Once people know they are being spied on, they can no longer speak freely. This is the most unconstitutional thing our government has done, or so I currently believe. Look at that smug s.o.b. That's the grin of a man who just sold his country to the interests of corporate entities. His constituents are the megacorps and not the US public as this move clearly shows.

POPSPower and the relation between these two aricles More power to the leader of the US or could we do better without that institution? Parliamentary democracy seems to be more democratic when one looks at this administration. Way too much abuse of power. GITMO, surveillance, the list just goes on and on

POPSFor His Treatment of Children in the 'War on Terror,' Bush is a War Treaties don't mean much to this president, to the vice president, or to the rest of the administration, but they should mean something to the rest of us. According to the US government's own figures, that is how many kids 17 years and younger have been held since 2001 as "enemy combatants"--often for over a year, and sometimes for over five years. At least eight of those children, some reportedly as young as 10, were held at Guantanamo. They even had a special camp for them there: Camp Iguana. One of those kids committed suicide at the age of 21, after spending five years in confinement at Guantanamo. (Ironically and tragically, that particular victim of the president's criminal policy, had been determined by the Pentagon to have been innocent only two weeks before he took his own life, but nobody bothered to tell him he was slated for release and a return home to Afghanistan.)
