New Species of Cockroach Found In New York by 2 High School Students
celestialdancer
by celestialdancer  12-26-2009
"In their roles as "DNAHouse investigators," the pair trawled New York apartments, stores and street, collecting 217 specimens between November 2008 and March 2009. They took samples from supermarket food, the remains of an insect found in a box of fruit, a feather from a duster, dried dung and a cockroach and matched DNA sequences using the Barcode of Life Database and GenBank. The American Museum of Natural History laboratory identified 170 genetic codes, leading the researchers to identify 95 different animal species, including some that were unexpected. "A feather from a duster yielded ostrich DNA. A delicacy labeled 'sturgeon caviar' instead turned out to be from the strange-looking paddlefish. A popular Asian snack was revealed as giant flying squid. Bison DNA was found in a dog biscuit," the pair wrote on the Rockefeller University website. In fact, they found that 16 percent of food items were mislabeled, including cheeses labeled sheep's milk that were actually ma

Merry Christmas - Delayed 35 Years

Thirty-five years in prison for a crime you did not do. What would you say? How could you have stood it, more than 230 cases similar and people freed by one innocence project. How many more do you think are in jail just for being poor or because police and district attoneys cared more about a conviction than the truth.

These are the kind of stories that demonstration how broken and totally unfair our justice system is. Anyone with a couple of "thinking" brain cells would realize that when it comes to human existence, right vs. wrong is not an exact science. Human emotion always trumps common sense if laws aren't there to intervene. This is a good reason why the DEATH PENALTY should be abolished. Many western societies who have advanced so beyond the mentality of the USA in sophistication have long understood this. I love my country but too many Americans who also profess love for this country will at the drop of a hat bark, HANG EM or OFF WITH HIS HEAD, and follow through if they could because of an naive notion that ONE SIZE FITS ALL. In other words, if you don't look like them, act like them, "think" (I use that term loosely) like them, they will refer to your ubiquity as alien and not deserving the rights they enjoy. Ignorance is not bliss! http://www.thethinkingblue.com/family/BOSTONLEGAL.html

Planned Parenthood: “That’s not a baby growing inside of you”
Antara
by Antara  12-12-2009    2
"The explanation of “heart tones” is particularly dishonest. The counselor says it can’t be a heartbeat because the baby clump of cells isn’t viable, but that it becomes a heartbeat at 17-18 weeks. But a child isn’t viable at that point, either. It does come closer to corresponding with the legal limitations of Planned Parenthood’s abortion services, however. As for a fetus not being “anything like” a baby, well, that’s hardly a shocking statement coming from PP, but it does demonstrate the depths of deception to which they’re prepared to plunge to rake in that abortion cash. Of course it’s a baby growing inside of the uterus, one with its own DNA and independent biological functions that start within minutes of conception. Unlike global warming, the science on human reproduction actually is settled."

DNA bungle shows 'lessons not learnt'

TV probably convinced most that DNA was the panacea, but allowance for human error has to come in somewhere, so it should be able to be questioned. (I doubt it has much to do with the rich, who seem to be sloppy with their DNA.)

(cont) "In December 2005, federal Judge John E. Jones III ruled that ID must meet the same fate that creationism met in 1987 when the Supreme Court ruled religious doctrines can't be promoted in secular institutions because they violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. Judge Jones wrote in his decision regarding a policy of the Dover, Pennsylvania, school district that added ID to the school's biology program: The citizens of the Dover area were poorly served by the members of the Board who voted for the ID Policy. It is ironic that several of these individuals, who so staunchly and proudly touted their religious convictions in public, would time and again lie to cover their tracks and disguise the real purpose behind the ID Policy...."

Expedition Great White
merrie
by merrie  11-16-2009    1
EXPEDITIONS: * By mounting long-lasting tracking tags and taking measurements and DNA samples from live, wild sharks in this expedition, scientists are hoping to unravel the mysteries of the great white’s lifecycle ― where they are born, how they mate, where they migrate, aggregate, and more ― to help conserve and protect these endangered animals. * Dr. Domeier has developed profiles on almost 100 great whites based on their gill slits, pelvic fins, tails and color patterns. * He designed the most advanced real-time tracking devices ever made ― lasting up to six years and capable of sending 120,000 messages. * A line that can hold 5,000 pounds along with four fixed buoys can together create hundreds of pounds of drag that eventually wear down sharks’ resistance, allowing crew members to hand-reel them in safely. * The shark is then lifted onto the platform with a unique forklift that can safely hold 37 tons.

DNA test shows Hitler skull is that of a woman
infidel70
by infidel70  9-28-2009    5
A year later, skull fragments were dug up by Russian forces which seemed to confirm Hitler had shot himself in the bunker. In 1970, the KGB cremated Hitler’s remains except for the skull fragment. Dr Bellantoni was sceptical about the theory the skull fragments belong to Eva Braun, who was with Hitler in the bunker where he supposedly died. "There is no report of Eva Braun having shot herself or having been shot afterwards. It could be anyone. Many people were killed around the bunker area," he said.
