POPSMilitary Scrambles Jets Because of Unruly Airline Passenger Man on Hawaiian Airlines Flight is Questioned for Threatening Note, Refusal to Stow Bag The Oregon Air National Guard scrambled two F-15 fighter jets after a passenger on a Hawaiian Airlines jet to Maui refused to let go of his carryon bag and passed what was described as a "disturbing note" to a flight attendant. NORAD may be required to monitor, shadow, divert from flight path, direct to land and/or destroy platforms deemed a potential threat to North America. The passenger, a 56-year-old man from Salem, Ore., was eventually released without being charged after he was questioned by the FBI. NORAD's mission -- in close collaboration with homeland defense, security, and law enforcement partners -- is to prevent air attacks against North America, safeguard the sovereign airspaces of the United States and Canada by responding to unknown, unwanted and unauthorized air activity approaching and operating within these airspaces .....

POPSVIS | Can a salvation message reach Tiger Woods? Blogger | author | Cathy Lynn Grossman is too fidgety to meditate. But talking about visions and values, faith and ethics lights her up. Join in at Faith & Reason. "Mollie Hemingway, posting at Get Religion takes a calm walk through the coverage of Brit Hume's ongoing altar call to Woods. She points out the irrelevance of all the coverage citing various flawed Christians in the news. And she does it without any notes of triumphalism." She writes: "I've always had this suspicion that the mainstream media thinks Christianity is basically a set of rules, mostly about sex, that are imperfectly followed by hypocrites such as Haggard and Swaggart. And in the media's defense, I think this view could be based in part on what some of the more media-friendly Christian figures teach." ___ http://google.twi.bz/xv ___ http://me.twi.bz/m | http://altacities.com

POPSHawaii False Killer Whales May Be Placed on Endangered Species List "The dolphins can grow as long as 16 feet and weigh more than 1 ton. They resemble killer whales but are almost completely black instead of black and white. They're found in tropical and temperate waters worldwide, including Maryland, Japan, Australia and Scotland. But scientists estimate only about 120 live in waters up to 60 miles off Hawaii's coasts." Because False Killer Whales also exist in waters further out from Hawaii (known as the Pelagic population) Scientists are considering whether the "insular" stock should be considered as a "distinct population of animals under the endangered species act."

POPSRevealing Photo “Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest.” Of course he readopted false patriotism later in the campaign when he figured out he’d need some to get elected, but he’s been elected, he’s president now, and he can do whatever he wants. Maybe now that he is president, it is real patriotism. But I’m going to guess that, much like giving a nod in speeches to America’s history of sacrifice in defense of freedom and the nation’s ongoing interests and obligations in that regard, this is one of those presidential things he just has to do.I kind of wish he’d speak out more on issues that are of importance to our national security , though. I’ve noticed lately that getting him to do that is like pulling teeth, and usually only done when it can’t be avoided ......

POPSUN backtracks on Climategate, will not investigate Today Pachauri reversed course and instead launched a defense of the climate scientists that have been accused of collusion, modification and deletion of data and a host of other offenses. He said that he felt the scientists “are being unfairly targeted.” Pachauri said, “The persons who have worked on this report, and those who unfortunately have been victims of this terrible and illegal act, are outstanding scientists, and have contributed enormously over the 20, 21 years of the existence of the IPCC.” Pachauri stated that his only concern was finding out who was behind it, not if there are any problems with the science behind the manmade climate change theory or the scientists that formulated it. "I think this is an illegal act. The only issue that has to be dealt with as far as this occurrence is concerned is to find out who is behind it," he said.

POPSMYJ | Back to COH tomorrow for IVIG What is IVIG? My COH physicians have determined that I need a booster dose of immunoglobulins (aka IVIG), so that infusion is scheduled for about 5-6 hours tomorrow. Here is some background on the procedure to be followed on Friday by a separate (similar duration) infusion of the miracle substance called Rituxan that is also an immune system enhancer. Even though we are still in remission officially from the lymphoma following the radiation (TomoTherapy) treatment in September, these infusions are designed to help my immune system prevent any return of the disease and to aid in other preventions of sickness. All things considered, I have been significantly well since the start of my medical leave at the end of August, or at least since the completion of the radiation treatment. Just being cancer free is a big part of that positive status report. ___ http://google.twi.bz/hv ___ http://google.twi.bz/As ___ http://altacities.com ___ http://me.twi.bz/y

POPSSam Harris vs Karen 'I love Islam' Armstrong " And how could we have been so foolish as to connect the apparently inexhaustible supply of martyrs in the Muslim world to the Islamic doctrine of martyrdom? In my own defense, let me say that I do get spooked whenever Western Muslims advocate the murder of apostates (as 36 percent of Muslim young adults do in Britain). But I now know that these freedom-loving people just "want to see God reflected more clearly in public life." I will call my friend Ayaan Hirsi Ali at once and encourage her to come out of hiding: Come on out, dear. Karen says the coast is clear. As it turns out, those people who have been calling for your murder don't understand Islam any better than we do. "

POPSJudge tosses Blackwater case, cites gov't missteps
"We're obviously disappointed by the decision," Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd said. "We're still in the process of reviewing the opinion and considering our options." Prosecutors can appeal the ruling. Blackwater contractors had been hired to guard U.S. diplomats in Iraq. The guards said insurgents ambushed them in a traffic circle. Prosecutors said the men unleashed an unprovoked attack on civilians using machine guns and grenades. The shooting led to the unraveling of the North Carolina-based company, which since has replaced its management and changed its name to Xe Services. The five guards are Donald Ball, a former Marine from West Valley City, Utah; Dustin Heard, a former Marine from Knoxville, Tenn.; Evan Liberty, a former Marine from Rochester, N.H.; Nick Slatten, a former Army sergeant from Sparta, Tenn., and Paul Slough, an Army veteran from Keller, Texas. Defense attorneys said the guards were thrilled by the ruling after more than two years of scruti

a murderous totalitarian thug. He visited Copenhagen to receive polite applause from people that gave socialist dictator Hugo Chavez a thunderous ovation for his anti-capitalist ravings. Could anyone in this Administration deliver a heartfelt endorsement of capitalism to the hungry ears of the Iranian protesters? Would any of them even be willing to try? President Obama’s belief that America’s standing in the world would improve with his election, because he’s a “good listener,” is the exact opposite of the truth. Wise people, and nations, are always listening carefully… but the world improves when America speaks with confidence. Obama’s cherished Indonesian childhood, and the travels through the Muslim world he boasts of, have proven to mean nothing to the forces of Islamic fascism. He should have spent more time learning what his American heritage means to the people dying on the streets of Tehran, and those like them around the world. Doctor Zero Blog http://bit.ly/8lUxeb

POPSMilitary Working Dogs; Saving Lives on the Battlefield “These dogs are important because of the job they do for our military,” said Chirdon, who has been in the Marine Corps for more than six years. “They clear houses, roads and many other areas for our deployed military men and women. “Military working dogs are also very smart and, no matter how good technology is, a dog is always better. They also provide a huge psychological deterrent to enemies and stop many potentially bad situations before they even start. Nobody wants to be bit by a dog,” he said. Chirdon understands that facing ferocious attacks, hammering in constant commands and providing frequent praise will one day pay off with human lives saved on the battlefield. POPS Putin Urges US To Share Missile Defense Data
"We have agreed to continue to discuss the topic of missile defense with Russia in a separate venue," he said. Putin's comments showed that the former Russian president is continuing to shape Russian foreign policy, which under the constitution should be set by his successor, Dmitry Medvedev. He said that the arms control talks were proceeding in a positive way and added that Medvedev and President Barack Obama will eventually decide whether to strike an arms deal. But Putin warned that a missile defense system would give the U.S. an edge and could erode the deterrent value of Russia's nuclear forces. "The problem is that our American partners are developing missile defenses, and we are not," Putin said. "But the issues of missile defense and offensive weapons are closely interconnected. ... There could be a danger that having created an umbrella against offensive strike systems, our partners may come to feel completely safe. After the balance is broken .....

POPSYou're in charge - sort of... Terrorism Self-defense on an airliner is admirable but not something to depend upon for security - neither is requiring full body scans. Why? Think about it? We have had nine years to launch some sort of effective national homeland security system. We still don't have one that can even tell us who is who working at airport, seaports, land border crossings. Several billion have been spent on consultants and tests and - nada. The objective of terrorists is to make themselves appear much more powerful than they are to convince politicians and voters to take actions that will exaggerate the importance of the terrorists. Fully fund and cooperate with Interpol to search out and arrest the infrastructure for illiegal actions they are all involved with.

POPSTwo Of The Four Plotters Behind The Flight 253 Attack Were Released From Gitmo In 2007 both the Bush administration and the Obama administration. We can argue about the political pressures Bush was under, but the simple truth of the matter is that we should have created a process for dealing with these detainees long ago. The Military Commissions Act was this solution, establishing military commissions to establish the guilt or innocence of these detainees, but it came far too late in Bush’s administration to do any good (and was absurdly deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in yet another decision ignoring the constitution completely). And now our policy toward Guantanamo Bay is a mish-mash of conflicted and largely politically-motivated pap geared more, I think, toward pandering and backside-covering than any national security strategy. Some of the detainees are getting trials in civilian US courts. Some are being shipped off to Pacific islands for continued detention.
