POPS Debacle in Moscow by Charles Krauthammer
And what's come from Obama's single most dramatic foreign policy stroke -- the sudden abrogation of missile defense arrangements with Poland and the Czech Republic that Russia had virulently opposed? For the East Europeans it was a crushing blow, a gratuitous restoration of Russian influence over a region that thought it had regained independence under American protection. But maybe not gratuitous. Some brilliant secret trade-off to get strong Russian support for stopping Iran from going nuclear before it's too late? Just wait and see, said administration officials, who then gleefully played up an oblique statement by President Dmitry Medvedev a week later as vindication of the missile defense betrayal. The Russian statement was so equivocal that such a claim seemed a ridiculous stretch at the time. Well, Clinton went to Moscow this week to nail down the deal. What did she get? "Russia Not Budging On Iran Sanctions: Clinton Unable to Sway Counterpart."

POPSObama Snubs Dalai Lama to Please China Obama is scared of China and he thinks that by snubbing the Dalai Lama this will somehow show China the U.S. knows how to choose its friends? This is a disgusting display of kowtowing. And Obama won the Nobel prize for what? Oh yeah, "Extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

POPSIn April, 2008, Obama Says Bush Should Boycott Olympics If.... What goes around comes around.... I guess Candidate Obama told Bush to use the Olympics' opening ceremony as a diplomatic pressure point against the Chinese. Wasn't it Bush that got Chicago on the short list to begin with? The Olympic committee isn't going to give President Obama a chance to take his own advice in 2016..

POPSObama Meeting with The Daliai Lama Is Delayed more @ clip source For the first time since 1991, the Tibetan spiritual leader will visit Washington this week and not meet with the president. Since 1991, he has been here 10 times. Most times the meetings have been "drop-in" visits at the White House. The last time he was here, in 2007, however, George W. Bush became the first sitting president to meet with him publicly, at a ceremony at the Capitol in which he awarded the Dalai Lama the Congressional Gold Medal, Congress's highest civilian award.

POPS"Hello Dalai" He has a sense of humor all right, but he is known worldwide for his serious devotion to peace, equality, and civil rights, and admitted an admiration for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Dr. King, although I never met, but I heard his sort of motivation, his determination, his service for civil rights.” As they stopped by the statue of Tom Lee to pay respects, Lowery told the Dalai Lama how Tom Lee saved 32 lives by pulling them from the river. His Holiness left a mark on the two men welcoming him to town. Mayor Wharton said, “This visit lets the world know that Dr. King ’s beliefs still live on are still viable and I think it’s just so fitting that his holiness has seen fit to visit our great city.”

POPSBuddhist Neuropsychology: emotions and Awe Keltner is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and directs the Berkeley Social Interaction Laboratory. I haven't read this book but will aim to. The whole approach of Buddhist psychology and its accommodation with neuroscience is fascinating, a fascination shared by the Dalai Lama. Awe-inspiring stuff!
