POPSForget the Flying Car: Here Comes The Flying Motorcycle As the article concludes - this is how I feel; The skeptics in us think there's a very slim chance they'll hit that deadline; after all, we've seen a lot of pie-in-the-sky personal flying craft ideas come across our desks, but we have yet to see any cruise past our office windows. Still, that doesn't mean we're not anxiously awaiting the day that we do.

POPSFace the Voters Bob Schieffer of Face The Nation ~ http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/FTN_010310.pdf?tag=cbsnewsTwoColUpperPromoArea Really, what have the Obami done well? Not the stimulus plan. Not crafting a popular and coherent health-care bill. And not instilling confidence that there are competent people who can, when bombarded with intelligence, put it together to prevent an attack or even craft a policy designed to extract information after an attack. But Bob Schieffer, not exactly a fire-breathing conservative, really laid into the Obami. The problem is not only competence but also trust. The Democrats are consumed with political spin even on national security. He notes that Janet Napolitano was getting hammered but explains that this is a symptom of a bigger issue: But she was just following the modern bipartisan public relations template in this age of information management. First, play down the problem.

POPSDemise of news barons is just a Marxist fantasy One of the problems with professional journalism these days is that it operates using attacks based on assumed personal motivation (ad hominem argument or name calling), rather than on the basis of open facts. The fact that a professor of journalism should argue in this way augers poorly for the future of the 'profession'. For one who started life as an old fashioned newspaperman without the benefit of schools of journalism, I can only say that the quality of journalism has fallen since it achieved the status of a profession, rather than as a craft learned on the job. We learned values, too, not just a list of 'ethics'. Citizen journalists are doing just that, learning on the job. More power to them, (and less to Murdoch 'professionals').

POPSAt 31,000 mph, Space Probe Gets Halfway to Pluto in Record Time; ETA: July 2015 Should make for good visuals... During that time, the probe will capture 4.5 gigabytes of data, which it will have to keep sending the four-and-a-half hours back home for months. With its main mission accomplished, the craft will keep moving away from the sun, following in the extrasolar footsteps of the earlier Pioneer and Voyager missions, drifting ever farther away from us.

POPSRe: Kelika's Clip-Stealth boat Ady Gil Intriguing clip by Kelika led me to do a little research. More from the article below: "Now the newly-renamed vessel has been unveiled as the Sea Shepherd's new weapon in the organisation's sixth campaign against whaling, Operation Waltzing Mathilda, which will launch from Australia early next month. The craft, which is capable of up to 50 knots, will be used to intercept and physically block harpoon ships from illegally slaughtering whales. The Ady Gil and the Steve Irwin are the two remaining ships in the Sea Shepherd Society’s fleet. A third vessel – the Farley Mowat – was sent to protest against Canadian seal hunting last year and was seized by offiicials."

POPSIsrael's New UAV Can Reach Iran These unmanned vehicles will eventually become the main attack weapon--replacing manned attack aircraft...Just hope the encryptions are in place. Unlike their USA brethren....I thought my USA UAV boys had better sense than to transmit unencrypted data streams from their aircraft. I can't believe the USA bought data systems from a company without this included....dumb asses

POPSObama Pledges ACTION
Obama restated his mission to craft policy that will cut CO2 emissions in America by 80 percent before 2050 – an act that will completely devastate the economyand herald a new great depression as we have previously documented. He also said that $100 billion dollars would be mobilized for climate financing by 2020, the vast majority of which will come from a global tax on financial transactions and a GDP tax, as we have highlighted. Obama said the ability to “take collective action is in doubt right now,” admitting that the success of the conference “hangs in the balance.” Upset at the fact that the Copenhagen agenda is stalling, Obama is busily attempting to engineer an agreement via a series of behind closed doors meetings with world leaders. “President Barack Obama and world leaders are holding another impromptu meeting in search of a climate deal,” reports the Associated Press. “Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said Friday that Obama was meeting behind closed doors with the

POPSSniper in Iraq? There's an iphone app for that (via @vyadav) I originally read this in a clip posted earlier but couldn't resist Amplifying this particular piece. I suppose it shouldn't seem so odd to me, but the visual of an iphone being used by snipers to perfect their craft of shooting people just seems so crazy to me.

POPSA Bill Of Rights--Now And Then "Research shows that students who have the opportunity to participate in simulations such as legislative hearings, mock trials and, yes, even constitutional conventions not only learn more but develop greater civic skills and interest in politics. Although we need to make sure our children are proficient in math and reading, it is vitally important to the future of our democracy that they also learn what it means to be a competent and involved citizen."
