POPSMoscow calls for anti-U.S. alliance While Russia has insisted it was not intending to supplant NATO, Mr Medvedev made it clear that the US-dominated alliance was partly responsible for the war in the Caucasus by its failure to rein in Georgian "aggression". This is the result of the U.S. throwing its weight around the world for far too long. It is human nature that if one person is constantly directing policy onto everyone else then that person is going to be knocked down for being perceived as a bully. The time has come for the U.S. to relax its role as self appointed world police and let other nations handle their own affairs or we will be “uninvited to the party”. Hopefully, future U.S. presidents will bury this old school ‘might is right’ mentality that Bush/Cheney revitalized when they took office.

POPSCatholics Probe Aid Directed To ACORN In June, the Catholic Church froze a $1.2 million grant for 38 ACORN chapters after the community-organizing group was accused of voter fraud in 15 states. State elections officials and the FBI are questioning ACORN workers who submitted voter registration forms signed by Mickey Mouse and members of the Dallas Cowboys football team in their efforts to register voters in low-income neighborhoods, many of whom tend to favor Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama. Mr. Obama once worked with ACORN as a community organizer and lawyer in Chicago. "While there is value in registering low-income voters, I am concerned that the whole ban on partisanship has been violated," Ralph McCloud, the new executive director for the CCHD, said Monday. Mr. McCloud said he could not reassure Catholics that the funds donated before 2008 were not used in voter fraud. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/nov/04/catholics-probe-aid-directed-to-acorn/

POPSVotes and Nuts - the ACORN kind Let every vote count, is the Democratic Party's mantra these days. That slogan might better be: Let every vote count as often as we need to win. Such, at any rate, are the tactics of ACORN, Barack Obama's favorite "community organizers," and its Project Vote - of which, the Democratic presidential candidate has boasted, "I started working as the director . . . here in Chicago."

POPSYawn - Voter Fraud at ACORN Response from the Obama Camp: What is ACORN? Barry didn't ever represent them. Why are you racists questioning the Chosen One? Stop looking at my ears. So Jesus was a vote-fraud, election rigging community organizer?

POPSACORN Fraud: False Voter Registration in Nevada ACORN, often accused of voter-registration fraud, is under investigation in Nevada for turning in fake voter registration forms. ACORN has come under scrutiny lately for receiving funds from the Obama campaign. It also made news when Democrats in Congress attempted to funnel future bailout profits into the ACORN slush fund.

POPSThe 55 trillion dollar question Will credit default swaps be the next disaster? When you put $10 on black 22, you're pretty sure the casino will pay off if you win. The CDS market offers no such assurance. One reason the market grew so quickly was that hedge funds poured in, sensing easy money. And not just big, well-established hedge funds but a lot of upstarts. So in some cases, giant financial institutions were counting on collecting money from institutions only slightly more solvent than your average minimart. The danger, of course, is that if a hedge fund suddenly has to pay off on a lot of CDS, it will simply go out of business.

POPSHard Power / Soft Power - Krauthammer
Solemn condemnations have been issued from every forum of soft-power fecklessness — the EU, the U.N., the G-8 foreign ministers — demanding that Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe stop butchering his opponents and step down. Before that, the cause du jour was Burma, where a vicious dictatorship allowed thousands of cyclone victims to die by denying them independently delivered foreign aid, lest it weaken the junta’s grip on power. And then there is Darfur, a perennial for which myriad diplomats and foreign-policy experts have devoted uncountable hours at the finest five-star hotels to deplore the genocide and urgently urge relief. What is done to free these people? Nothing. And who’s going to intervene? The only country that could is the country that in the last two decades led coalitions that liberated Kuwait, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan. Having sacrificed much blood and treasure in its latest endeavor — the liberation of 25 million Iraqis from the most barbarous tyranny of all

POPSYou Bet Your Tintype, Buckaroo Mr. Kendrick belongs to a growing group of commercial and art photographers who have retreated in recent years from the ease and exactitude of the digital age and taken up the difficult, ethereal techniques of early photography, including the ambrotype (in which a unique image is created on a glass plate), daguerreotype (on polished silver) and tintype (usually on tin-plated iron ). The pictures — made by exposing and developing the metal plates after they have been coated with a light-sensitive solution of silver nitrate — are a kind of ideal meeting of subject and style. Mr. Kendrick, like most cowboys, is much happier when doing things the hard way.“Making these kinds of pictures, you don’t need the mental skills that you have to have a Ph.D. for,” he said. “It’s more like learning to be a carpenter. It’s work and it’s satisfying. What you get is unique, not mass-produced. You can’t repeat the process. So it’s the antithesis of digital.”

POPSRight is Wrong "We have a mainstream that supports -- even applauds -- the behavior of thuggish Blackwater mercenaries, that supports the gutting of our civil liberties, that opposes universal health care, and that has views on immigration that wouldn't have been heard outside a John Birch Society meeting ten years ago."

POPSDemocracy Saves America's Reputation The great thing about America is not that we are a perfect country, but that we are always a redeemable one. We have a certain mercurial charm (not to mention idiosyncratic way of doing things) that somehow manages to bring us back from the brink. The world will never truly hate us, because we can and do change. And somehow, America has a knack for putting its best foot forward at just the right crucial moment. Roger Cohen, also, is a shining example of editorial journalism in an age of glib semi-literate rants. He takes in the whole world, and manages to make sense of it, noticing all the right details.

POPSBlushing Blair's Bitch Belatedly Bits Bush Butt! Yes look, he does look like a real cowboy. Here a 'real cowboy' is a lower form of life than a second hand car sales person. Cowboys over here are totally disreputable door-to-door shyster (A shyster is someone who acts in a disreputable, unethical or unscrupulous way or a con artist. While now applied in a non-ethnic-specific sense, it originated as a reference to disreputable Jxxish businessmen and criminals.) Unusual given his pro-Nazi past. Bet he's practising riding off into the sunset, pursued by a real posse for his war crimes. Mao and Stalin escaped. Will Bush? I hear he never really learnt how to ride a horse. Some Texan!

POPS"Three Little Pigs" Book Deemed Offensive To Muslims You gotta be kidding me... The panel also suggested the book might be offensive to builders, what with it being entitled The Three Little Cowboy Builders. Becta asked: "Is it true that all builders are cowboys, builders get their work blown down, and builders are like pigs?" I apologize if any pigs, builders, muslims, cowboys or wildcards are offended by this clip.

POPSRural Gays Say Life Ain't Easy It really speaks to me about the amount of discrimination faced by these gays living in rural America who say they would give up their orientation in a nanosecond if they could, even admitting they would take a "magic pill" to end their gayness. Incredible what they would do to be accepted. Perhaps we should all take a magic pill to make us fit into what society really values. The line would be long, eh?
