This news, announce today, appears to have surprised almost everyone. But what is no surprise is that if you are on the side on warmongers, neocons, racist, those who ok torture, corporate exploitation of people and the land than you want to destroy this president. If you have hopes for peace, progress in alternative energies and new directions, national health care, unions and decent wages than this is the man who is on the frontlines fighting for these things. Closing down the suicidal plans for putting nuke missiles on the border with Poland was one clear change that we can see -- because it meant direct European and USA military conflict with Russia. This fact maybe lost in the madness of 24-hour news but it was 4sure. That dangerous and unnecessary Bush Era program is ended...and Obama gets attacked at home by the warmongers for "backing down to Russia." Like the Nobel Committee said....we see he is for real, we see he is trying, and we add our hopes to his and encour

Signing Away Our Sovereignty
merrie
by merrie  10-28-2009    2
We should be aware that Obama intends to roll out for Senate approval a series of international treaties that will further bind America to the will of the international community if they are ratified. Bit by bit, America's autonomous power is being taken away. The Boston Globe provides a public relations gloss by calling these treaties a means of fulfilling "Obama's vision of global cooperation." This is one view, I suppose. Another view would be that our policies will be tied down by these treaties -- and we will be judged by international bureaucrats and held to their interpretation of what our obligations are under the treaties. International treaties require only Senate approval. Obama will begin with treaties designed to achieve his vision of a world without nuclear weapons. But that is just the beginning. Efforts will begin to bind America to the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea....This will hurt our nation's ability to mine the world's seas for oil and gas....

Georgian minister: Israel should be proud "The Israelis should be proud of themselves for the Israeli training and education received by the Georgian soldiers," Georgian Minister Temur Yakobashvili said Saturday. Yakobashvili is a Jew and is fluent in Hebrew. "We are now in a fight against the great Russia," he said, "and our hope is to receive assistance from the White House, because Georgia cannot survive on its own. "It's important that the entire world understands that what is happening in Georgia now will affect the entire world order. It's not just Georgia's business, but the entire world's business." One of the Georgian parliament members did not settle Saturday for the call for American aid, urging Israel to help stop the Russian offensive as well: "We need help from the UN and from our friends, headed by the United States and Israel. Russia Refuses Call For Tougher Sanctions On Iran, They Would Be “Counterproductive”
merrie
by merrie  10-15-2009    2
President Barack Obama " who visited Russia in July " has vowed to “reset” U.S.-Russia relations. Beyond Iran, Lavrov said U.S. and Russia negotiators have made “considerable” progress toward reaching agreement on a new strategic arms treaty. The 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, or START, expires in December and negotiators have been racing to reach agreement on a successor. The two diplomats also discussed possible cooperation on missile defense following Obama’s decision not to proceed with Bush-administration plans to base such a system in eastern Europe. Russia has welcomed Obama’s new approach, but has said it was eager for more detailed information. Clinton said the U.S. would be as transparent as possible. “We want to ensure that every question that the Russian military or Russian government asks is answered,” she said, calling missile defense “another area for deep cooperation between our countries.”

Tentative Inspection Program Would Allow Russia to Visit U.S. Nuclear Sites

"We want to ensure that every question that the Russian military or Russian government asks is answered," she said, calling missile defense "another area for deep cooperation between ourcountries." On another critical issue, Lavrov declared that it would be counterproductive to threaten Iran with more sanctions over its nuclear program -- as he resisted efforts by Clinton to win agreement for tougher measures should Iran fail to prove its program is peaceful. Clinton visited Moscow on her first trip since becoming America's top diplomat, in an effort to gauge Moscow's willingness to join the U.S. in imposing sanctions. Clinton said the U.S. agreed it was important to pursue diplomacy with Iran. "At the same time that we are very vigorously pursuing this track, we are aware that we might not be as successful as we need to be, so we have always looked at the potential of sanctions in the event we are not successful and cannot assure ourselves . . .

Nobel Tops 'SNL' for Obama Joke by Mark Steyn
merrie
by merrie  10-11-2009    3
What "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy" did he make in those first 12 days? Bowing to the Saudi king? Giving the British prime minister the Walmart discount box of "Twenty Classic Movies You've Seen A Thousand Times"? "Er, Barack, I've already seen these." "That's OK. They won't work in your DVD player anyway." For these and other "extraordinary efforts" in "cooperation between peoples", President Obama is now the fastest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in history. Alas, the extraordinary efforts of those first 12 days are already ancient history. Reflecting the new harmony of U.S.-world relations since the administration hit the "reset" button, The Times of London declared the award "preposterous," and Svenska Freds (the Swedish Peace and Arbitration Society) called it "shameful." Why, only the other day, very conversationally, the administration floated the trial balloon that it could live with the Taliban returning to government in Afghanistan.

Fact: Nearly All of Hitlers Beliefs Placed Him On the Far Right[
zizzy
by zizzy  9-29-2009    9
Many conservatives accuse Hitler of being a leftist, on the grounds that his party was named "National Socialist." But socialism requires worker ownership and control of the means of production. In Nazi Germany, private capitalist individuals owned the means of production, and they in turn were frequently controlled by the Nazi party and state. True socialism does not advocate such economic dictatorship -- it can only be democratic. Hitler's other political beliefs place him almost always on the far right. He advocated racism over racial tolerance, eugenics over freedom of reproduction, merit over equality, competition over cooperation, power politics and militarism over pacifism, dictatorship over democracy, capitalism over Marxism, realism over idealism, nationalism over internationalism, exclusiveness over inclusiveness, common sense over theory or science, pragmatism over principle, and even held friendly relations with the Church, even though he was an atheist.

White House: We blew it on Gitmo
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  9-25-2009    3
First of all, who counseled Team Obama against closing Gitmo? I don’t recall anything but wall to wall proclamations from Obama himself about how he was going to shut it down. So if there were advisors, they apparently knew a lot more about governing than Obama did. But the big admission is that they had no plan. When you elect a guy who has never run so much as a lemonade stand to be president, you can’t expect to have him succeed, never mind excel, at a job as complex as that of President of the United States. Of course no failure of the Obama administration would be complete without blaming George W. Bush for his part in the debacle. I am sure everyone remembers Bush and his pals all talking about closing Guantanamo Bay all year last year, right? Uh, well it slips my memory, but I am sure we have video of Bush and Obama at a press conference talking about the bipartisan plan to close Gitmo. Anybody seen that? I didn’t think so.

Is this a set-up to give Israel the go-ahead? FTA: "U.S. intelligence believes that the secret Iranian nuclear facility is in an underground tunnel complex on a military base controlled by the elite Revolutionary Guards." "The location at the military base would also undermine Iran's claim that the program is for civilian purposes." Ya think??

Currently a professor of American foreign policy at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies in Maryland, the former White House official added, "We have to be serious about denying them that right. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back, or not." Lt.-Gen. Ashkenazi maintained, however, that Israel will do whatever is necessary to defend itself when the time comes. "Israel has the right to defend itself, and all options are open," said the IDF Chief of Staff. "The IDF's working premise is that we have to be prepared for that possibility, and that is exactly what we are doing." With regard to the cooperation between the IDF and the U.S. Armed Forces that would be essential should military intervention become necessary,

Our Missile-Defense Race Against Iran
jatfla
by jatfla  9-21-2009
"Our security depends in large measure on beating Iran to the punch. If the U.S. succeeds in deploying missile defenses capable of intercepting Iranian long-range missiles before they are developed, it will help protect itself, its allies and its troops from the menace posed by a nuclear Iran. But if missile defenses become operational after Iran's long-range missile capability does, both America and its allies will find themselves vulnerable to nuclear blackmail, or worse, from the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism." I know no one wants to read this stuff and have this debate. It comes down to trust. Do you trust Russia? Iran? it's satellite minions? This President? The power of the UN? The EU? I abhor looking to other countries...hoping...that they will protect our overseas military or even our homeland.
