POPSFrontpage's Man of the Year: GLENN BECK :) " Whether you love him or hate him, or consider him to be a must-see TV or DVR necessity, radio and TV talker Beck is a bright new star in the conservative firmament. You might get fired up by his calls to action or wince at his emotional outbursts – you even might tune in today only to see if this is when his head finally explodes—but you have to admit, this was the Year of the Beck."

Ok...ya'll can start with the hate-speech. As for me...I hope that he will be ok. He is the spokesman for many a conservative's voice. He's entertaining, informed, and well connected within the political realm.

POPSThe Despot of the North Once again, Prime Minister Harper tries to shut down the parliamentary process because he doesn't feel that he has tyrannical control over the government. Questions are being asked about the Afghani prisoner abuses and the opposition parties are blocking his heavy-handed bills in Parliament, so he's going to stack the Senate with Conservatives (a process he vocally condemned early in his despotic reign) to give him absolute control over the government. That's not the Canadian way; that's taking a page out of Bush's fascist book. If Governor General Michael Jean approves a prorogue, there is going to be a huge outcry, and hopefully, hell to pay.

POPSBlue State Governors Cry Foul Over Health Care Bill “When asked for my support, I was assured that federal legislation would not increase costs to California or include new unfunded mandates,” Schwarzenegger wrote. “Unfortunately, under nearly every scenario we can predict, the federal health care reform legislation being debated would cost California’s General Fund an additional $3 billion to $4 billion annually.” ….. Arnold’s already looking for a bailout from Uncle Sam. They loved Porkulus, but it’s not going to help them now. The sad thing is, it’s doubtful either one of them has anything against government takeover of health care. They just don’t want it passed onto their state budgets. POPSTea Parties: The Biggest Mistake We Could Make in 2010 We have a branding problem, at the least, and need to define ourselves outside of the DC Network. If we must have TWO political parties may I humble suggest we name the Dems and Rinos (no difference) as the "Politician Party" and the Tea Partiers, Independents, and libertarians as the "Patriot Party" and then let's rumble. The Tea Party movement in and of itself will be ineffective if it is used as a third party. However, it can be effective at driving the Republican Party more conservative, mobilizing the conservative base and holding elected officals to their more conservative promises.

POPSMYG | Nebraska's Sen. Ben Nelson
He made recent headlines for his deal making on health care reform, but will his legislative success spell doom with Nebraska voters? ___ In 1990, Ben Nelson entered the realm of Nebraska politics by running for Governor. He won the Democratic primary by only 42 votes and entered the governor’s office by besting incumbent Kay Orr by 4,000 votes. Nelson’s plan as Governor was to bridge the gaps between rural and urban areas " a “One Nebraska” " and create a “more efficient and effective state government.” These successes did not go unrecognized, for when Nelson was re-elected Governor in 1994, he attracted 74% of the vote, the largest margin of victory for a governor in half century. In 2000, Nelson ran for the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Senator Bob Kerrey. Nelson, a conservative Democrat, carried the day even as Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush won Nebraska with 62% of the vote. ___ http://senate.gov.twi.bz/h

POPSWhat Obama Might Look Like If He Read Polls And Michael Barone's Column
He had already realized that his sentiments were leading him away from the Whigs and toward the new Republican party, and in 1856 he became a Republican. He quickly came to the fore in the party as a moderate opponent of slavery who could win both the abolitionists and the conservative free-staters, and at the Republican national convention of 1856 he was prominent as a possible vice presidential candidate. Two years later he was nominated by the Republican party to oppose Douglas in the Illinois senatorial race. Accepting the nomination (in a speech delivered at Springfield on June 16), Lincoln gave a ringing declaration in support of the Union: "A house divided against itself cannot stand." The campaign that followed was impressive. Lincoln challenged Douglas to a series of debates (seven were held), in which he delivered masterful addresses for the Union and for the democratic idea. He was not an abolitionist, but he regarded slavery as an injustice and an evil .....

POPSSpotback Do Follow This is a great social bookmarking site that seems to be apolitical unlike Digg and Mixx. Which means you should not have to worry about being banned just for having traditional American values.

POPSWe need Welfare Reform! Welfare for the wealthy, that is! This is horribly wrong! Once again, Republicans should be ashamed of themselves.

POPSA simple health care solution that Congress won't consider. This is a cool blog. Rick Toone certainly does not look like a conservative, Bible-thumping, birther, but he sure does not like the idea of government-mandated and government-run health care. I had not even heard of Ron Paul's proposal. Makes too much sense for Congress to seriously consider it.

POPSWhen Liberal Dreams Collide With Public Opinion
"What's really exceptional at this stage of Obama's presidency," writes Andrew Kohut, the Pew Research Center's respected pollster, "is the extent to which the public has moved in a conservative direction on a range of issues. These trends have emanated as much from the middle of the electorate as from the highly energized conservative right. From which we can draw two conclusions. One is that economic distress does not move Americans to support more government. Rasmussen reports that 66 percent of Americans favor smaller government with fewer services and only 22 percent favor more services and higher taxes. The second is that Barack Obama's persuasive powers are surprisingly weak. His advocacy seems to have moved Americans in the opposite of the intended direction. Obama first came to national attention in 2004 by promising to heal partisan, ideological and racial divisions. Like the other two Democratic presidents elected in the last 40 years .....

POPSLatin America Ends Year With Major Advancements In Gay Rights
With the debacle in the Middle East brought about by the previous administration, serious questions are emerging that the U.S. now lacks the ability to project power on the international stage. Now, with Mexico City's decision on Monday to approve gay marriage, it appears that local governments in two countries steeped in conservative, Catholic tradition - and allegedly not as progressive as the United States - have taken a far more expansive view of human rights and equality than the U.S. If the U.S. cannot project military power, and we can't seem to get a grip on human rights and equality in a way that two Latin American cities have done, what can we do in this country anymore? I am ending the year on a pessimistic note, but it seems to me that the only thing we are good at anymore is consuming anything and everything we're told to, polluting the environment and yet denying the very existence of global warming, cheating the most vulnerable among us, and

POPSNo Wonder They're Ridiculed Conservative Christians don't like this film, it seems. Like much of everyday life, they see it as a threat on their beliefs. How tiring it must be to be a Fundamentalist in today's world. There's a devil behind every bush and hordes of heathens banging at the door.

POPSObama And His Appointees Dismantling US Thomas Sowell, the brilliant conservative pundit, makes an important point for those who think these radical extremists somehow got into the White House because of a failure to properly vet them. Mr. Sowell writes, “Why should we assume Obama didn’t know what such people were like; he’s been associating with these kinds of people for decades. Nothing is more consistent with his pattern than putting such people in government " people who reject American values, and resent Americans and America’s influence in the world.” Wake up America. We elected one of the most dangerous enemies of America and he now sits in the White House, filled with other enemies of America, relentlessly going about his task of destroying the country as we know it and as the Founding Fathers intended it. You better join the forces in opposition to Mr. Obama’s vision for America because if he continues unobstructed for three more years, it may then be too late to save it.

POPSPutting Palin and Sexism in Perspective This is a point I've been trying to make with my more conservative friends for a long time. Supporting women's rights does not mean blindly supporting all women no matter what they do or say. It means allowing every women to stand on fall based on her merit, not her gender.

POPSPlaying A Character Palin and those conservative women who aspire to be like her love living in ignorance. They have been eating, sleeping, and working in pollution so long that they not only believe that is just the way the air is, but they advocate the air is not polluted and actually good for you. They buy into that twisted kind of logic because their survival and identity depends upon it. The stress of having to pretend to be innately superior at all times and buy into this belief system is more than the human organism can tolerate so they become angry, hateful, intolerant wanna be bullies who aspire to have a Sarah Palin book under their Christmas tree. To challenge them or doubt them is akin to heresy. Too bad they are buying into the myth that states there is only one reality because it limits the search in seeking any understanding for other human beings. Sad and pathetic.
