POPSMurdoch: Beck Right on Omaba "Racist" This president, I think, has exposed himself as a guy, over and over and over again, who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture," Beck said. "I don't know what it is." "I'm not saying he doesn't like white people," Beck said. "I'm saying he has a problem. He has a -- this guy is, I believe, a racist." On Wednesday, a News Corp. spokesman stressed to Politico that Murdoch “does not at all, for a minute, think the president is a racist.” Watch the short video at source.

POPSYou Can't Have A Picnic Without Ants. “Don’t feed the troll” Simple and surefire rule. Trolls feed on your reactions. Ignore them. Put comments under moderation. This way you can approve or disapprove of inappropriate comments. Don’t be overly sensitive just because they go against what you stood for. Debate is healthy. Ban them. If you have persistent trolls, you might just want to block them. This way they will not be able to wreck havoc as they please. If you remove a post, aren't you preventing free speech? Discussion boards are by design a forum for open communication, a place where the community is encouraged to freely discuss its opinions. Only remove troll posts when they become disruptive to open communication. A troll is actually silencing the voice of a majority of the community members. Ask the troll to take their comments elsewhere.

POPSHouse GOP Brings Transparency To HealthCare Bill Online The GOP will continue its online push against the bill on Thursday, when Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) will lead a 12-hour online town hall to discuss health care. VIA Representative Bob Latta (Oh.-R) http://latta.amplify.com/ Meanwhile, the Republican caucus is using the social networking site Amplify to highlight portions of the bill with which they take issue. On their page healthcaretruth.amplify.com, Republican users share the actual text of the bill up for discussion and leave a comment. Other users can leave their own comments or share the content using Twitter, Facebook, Digg and other social networking tools. Reps. Boehner, Bob Latta (R-Ohio) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) spearheaded the project, and Boehner introduced it to other House Republicans this morning at their weekly members-only meeting. http://rnmc.amplify.com/2009/11/03/house-gop-brings-transparency-to-health-care-reform/

POPSGore Vidal: latest candidate for Worst Person In The World I can't come up with anything to say without descending into epithets and ad hominem insults against Mr. Vidal, so I'll just repeat: candidate for Worst Person In The World. EDITED TO ADD: Let me make this clear . Comments alleging that the victim wanted it, deserved it, or was indeed a prostitute as Vidal alleges are out of line and (as of 2:20 pm Pacific time) will be deleted from here out. Comments alleging that "we don't know the full story" display the commenter's ignorance of the grand jury testimony and and (as of 2:20 pm Pacific time) will be deleted from here out. DO NOT EVEN TRY TO CLAIM THAT A 13-YEAR-OLD IS AT FAULT FOR HAVING BEEN RAPED, NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES.

POPSPopcorn balls From the comments, I added one tsp. salt and 2 tsps. vanilla after the sugar mix came to a boil. Be careful because adding the vanilla will cause the sugar mixture to boil up and sputter. Also, I reduced the powdered sugar to 2 cups. It is plenty sweet. Also, keep the popcorn warm while making the sauce in a 200 degree F oven. I got 24 balls out of this and they taste FANTASTIC. Word from the comments is that the marshmallow keeps these from becoming rock hard like other popcorn balls. And, bonus, you do not need a candy thermometer. I will make again very soon. Easy and tasty.

POPSReal Slime: An Open Letter To Bill Maher
But the most pathetic thing is when you expose your lack of education (both formal and informal) with your crackpot “theories.” This was no more evident than in the season finale of Real Time this past friday, where you asserted that it was doctors and patients “colluding together” to “corrupt” the healthcare system. This statement was so absurd and bizarre that your entire guest panel (all liberals) and even your reliably sycophantic studio audience just stared at you in disbelief. After three seconds of uncomfortable silence both the audience and panel (that included Chris Matthews and Alec Baldwin) erupted in laughter—not with you, but AT you. Things unraveled further when you launched into a diatribe defending more stupid comments you’d made the previous week about vaccines being “dangerous medical procedures.” Both Matthews and Baldwin were visibly disgusted by this, which resulted in Matthews aggressively confronting you and making you look like an idiot—again.

POPS2009-09-Trip images via FlickrRiver (menu). This is mainly just a test of a slightly different way of viewing the images that I post at flickr. I would appreciate comments since I'm debating the relative merits of various User interface designs with several groups of technicians that (needless to say) all have their own conflicting views of how this should be done.
