merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 6:30 AM    1
Ooooooooh, Sarah-Bara-COO-dah! If you read the actual lyrics though, this clearly is a song to be sung by Barack Obama. He's just realized that he's about to be ambushed from the weeds by the Barracuda, and forced to his knees. Not long ago, he and "the porpoise" (Joe Biden, pre-hair plugs) were just "Selling a song," with "no right, no wrong" — just playing "a whisper game" involving a "name." This is clearly a reference to the "McSame" meme on which they were relying so much. And "sell me, sell you," the porpoise and the singer croon to each other in close harmony. Oh, yeah: It's about Obama and Biden, all right.

If People Paid More Attention This Wouldn't Be An Issue
cmstratton
by cmstratton  9-3-2008
I can feel for the people in this story who were charged large fees for overdrafts of their accounts - but I can only feel so much. To me, this problem is mainly due to people trying to pass responsibility for themselves and their actions onto someone else. If you know you're close to being out of money in your account, you should be paying more attention to your balance - you should actually be doing this anyway. If you paid more attention, you'd know how much you had to spend, and wouldn't spend more than that. It's that simple people. Now I can understand the issue with banks forcing you into overdraft protection and not allowing you to opt out. It should be optional. But as for the fees themselves - it's an individual's responsibility to understand their accounts, know what they have available to them, and only spent what they have. Getting upset is just failing to take responsibility for your actions.

Obama's recognitions/honors while a Senator
masbury

Distinguished service recognitions received during his four years as a U.S. Senator. You are certainly free to disagree with Obama, but the suggestion that his service as a Senator is less than exemplary is simply ill-informed propaganda.

Education Not Oil As Empire
debbyski
by debbyski  8-31-2008    1
For all the hard work of our good teachers, our system is failing to keep pace with the demands of a new century. Entrepreneurial charter schools such as KIPP, Uncommon Schools, Aspire, the Inner-City Education Foundation, the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools and Green Dot demonstrate what a single-minded focus on excellence can achieve with low-income students" Try investing in we the people. It's an investment that will pay off.

The Great Depression Hoax
Rustee
by Rustee  8-30-2008
Are we a nation of whiners, as Phil Gramm put it a little while ago? No, the American public is not whining...More likely, though, Americans are just leaving the whining to pundits and trend reporters. Our problem is not whining. It is persuading young people that, with baby boomers retiring, entitlement programs bulging and the world economy growing ever more competitive, now's the time to roll up the sleeves for something other than tattoos. For example, India produces 2.5 million college graduates every year (with concentrations in high demand fields - electronics, programming, engineering, accounting, etc.), and approximately 90,000 MBA's. Nothing against tattoos, but I do feel ignorance and apathy are much too prominent in America. Awareness of ignorance is the first step to wisdom.
