Fordice decision -- which, ironically, represented an attempt to undo the historic effects of the state's segregated higher education system -- they were starved of funds, receiving less than 3% of the budget they were allotted. They are now being condemned as non-performers (surprise, surprise) and will probably undergo massive program cuts.

In the event of a mass swine flu epidemic, TCD is preparing to allow staff to work from home, limit access to the college and its halls of residence, and to set up isolation bays if required. It is also preparing to coordinate a mass vaccination programme, although this will depend upon when a vaccine becomes available. "Obviously, if a very large number of cases occurs in a short period of time, then the Public Health Department may well advise the temporary closure, or restriction of access to schools and colleges across the city or country," McGrath said. "We would hope that the vaccination programme will have a significant impact on the number of cases and therefore that fatalities will be few." Personally I think one step further is people will start becoming free of their desktops and look more to mobile and netbooks or tablets and work in new and improved ways. Cube life is non-productive as are crowded classrooms and lecture halls. Smaller, distributed classes with real-world meetups whe needed. Perhaps it will also force companies to push departments to collaborate better.

Liberals can never say exactly what they want because it’s scary. That’s why they don’t work on talk radio. If they say what they’re goals are unfiltered, it even scares themselves. Look at college campuses; if liberals were unrestrained, is there any doubt their final goal would be socialism and fascism? They inch into any control they can have about our finances and behavior and clamp down on it like wolverines never letting go, but they never talk about their ultimate goals except in the vaguest terms (”Change and happiness!”) because they’re well aware of how much it would freak people out. They want socialism and government control, but they just don’t want to state it that way. Conservative ideals can be stated frankly, though, and not send people running. It can be a little scary - freedom and responsibility is scary - but it’s an argument people will accept. We need to state frankly what our goals are. Lay out a real vision for the future to inspire people.

POPSAmir Abbas Fakhravar Is An Iranian Jailed Dissident Fakhravar was a writer and a columnist for two major newspapers, “Khordad” and “Mosharekat” in Iran. He had a column called, “Who knows better than people” where he exposed the wrong-doings of the government authorities against his fellow students. With the help of his American friends and Iranian dissidents, Fakhravar moved to the United States in May 2006. He met with President Bush, prominent members of congress, scholars, and policy makers to discuss the atrocities of the Islamic Republic. In July 20, 2006, Fakhravar testified in a historic event before the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee of the US Senate. Fakhravar attended numerous conferences in the US and Europe to discuss the situation of young Iranians, jailed journalists, and political prisoners. In order to defend her position on racial preferences, she must first deny that she understands the terms. In her world, merit and ethnicity are synonymous. Therefore, one’s “experience” being Hispanic is equal with a high LSAT score. As Sotomayor points out, Hispanics and other minority students — though not Asians — score lower on many standardized tests. She acknowledges these “statistics.” Instead of attacking the real culprits of this discrepancy, likely poverty, poor education, and parental education levels, she believes the system itself must bend to accommodate “fairness.”

Personality disorders were the second most common problem behind drug or alcohol abuse as a single category. The disorders include obsessive, anti-social and paranoid behaviors that are not mere quirks but actually interfere with ordinary functioning. The study authors noted that recent tragedies such as fatal shootings at Northern Illinois University and Virginia Tech have raised awareness about the prevalence of mental illness on college campuses.
