POPSWhat's Missing in Minnesota is RESPECT The insecure Coach Childress just seems to be concerned with being upstaged by some un-heard-of nobody called,...uh...(lemme see here)...Brett Favre. The clip refers to last week when coach wanted to sit Favre but seemed to extend to the Mon.Night game where when Favre finally started to take charge on the field things started to happen. Coach seems indignant and possibly aiming for retribution just to show he's in charge. That's insecurity. That may just spoil one of the greatest comeback seasons of all time. There will have to be some quick & serious growing up, I think mostly on the part of Childress. Show the respect and work together, Mr. Childress. Work WITH Farve. Absolutely forget who has to PROVE their worth and start working to the same goal. Together.

POPSTQ | Is big-time coaching self destructive? Speaking of what prompted his decision to step down as head coach of the Florida Gators: Urban Meyer seems to confirm what his family and doctors may have already known. BIG TIME SPORTS COACHING IS A SERIOUS HEALTH RISK FOR MANY. But consider how it is that some like Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno had prolonged careers in the profession. http://google.twi.bz/Bt

POPSAnalogies as a Teaching and Learning Tool Several years ago I was in a business coaching group. There were a number of us – maybe 12 or so? – who would gather for weekly meetings and talk about our businesses while networking. One day, the session opened with the group leader asking us to describe our business experience while using the analogy of a roller coaster. So some people talked about Ferris Wheels and some people talked about Merry-Go-Rounds, and I sat there with a bad attitude, rolling my eyes and asking myself "why did I pay to do this?"

POPSHaving “The Talk” With Your Client Recently, a friend of mine had to have "the talk" with his son. You know what talk I'm talking about. The Talk. Like many kids, the realization of "the birds and the bees" was alarming and apparently he walked around in a state of shock for a while afterwards. If you're a business coach, you have a similar awkward job with your clients as you help them understand their business and how it is changing.

POPSLSU Tigers vs Penn State Nittany Lions - Capital One Bowl Preview The Fighting Tigers of Louisiana State University hope to get their tenth win of the season when they take on the Nittany Lions of Penn State University in the Capital One Bowl New Year's day. Les Miles hopes to improve his record in bowl games to 5-0 since taking over as Tigers head coach. In order to do so, he'll have to defeat on of the all-time greatest coaches in NCAA football history, and do so with an injury-riddled squad that is down to it's fourth running back on the depth chart. The top three Tigers running backs (Charles Scott, Richard Murphey and Keiland Williams) are all out for the season with various injuries. Penn State is hoping to improve upon the Big 10's record in major bowl games, including blowout losses by Ohio State in back-to-back BCS Championship games against Florida and LSU.

POPSNo More Mr. Nice Guy (or Ms. Nice Girl) In the last job I worked at before starting my own business, I had a manager who was – ahem – not a great person to work for. When he wasn't yelling or making rude or obscene comments, he was harshly critical of everyone in the office. It's no wonder that during my 9 months of tenure in that office, our staff went from 7 full-time and 5 part-time staff to 3 full-time staff only. After I left, leaving the office with the same amount of work for 7 full-time and 5 part-time but only 2 people, my manager was finally let go. It's a shame that it went that far.

POPSDespite infamous botch, Tony Romo volunteers for holding duty Full disclosure: I am a life-long Giants fan, and one who hates the Cowboys as much as any Boston Red Sox fan can hate the Yanks. POPSWhy You SHOULDN’T Haggle I had a potential client who called me up and asked about my services and rates. After giving them a quick overview, they suggested to me that they should pay me slightly less and they gave me a rate that "was within their budget". I didn't take them as a client and I'd recommend that you don't haggle with people either. Here are the reasons why:

POPS “I want to make more money” We're nearing the beginning of the New Year and it's around this time that we start to really vocalize the thought that is always at the backs of our minds: "I want to make more money". We may continually WANT to make more money as coaches but we rarely go about it as strategically as we do at this time of year. There's something about the new opportunity of a brand new year that compels us to act on our wishes. How you go about earning more money is the challenge. Do you raise your rates? Do you increase the number of hours you work in a day? Do you create passive income?

POPSBlackwater’s Erik Prince to step down, reveals CIA role Later, news reports emerged alleging that Blackwater, which recently renamed itself Xe Services, was involved in the program which sought to assassinate high-value terrorist targets. Prince "confesses to feeling betrayed," Vanity Fair reports. Prince told Ciralsky that he was engaged in work for the CIA "up until two months ago—when Prince says the Obama administration pulled the plug." That would seem to confirm recent news reports that the Obama administration was using Blackwater for assassinations in Pakistan. Prince also told Ciralsky he plans to step down as chairman and CEO of Blackwater -- a move Ciralsky reports has started a "power struggle" within the company over who will succeed its founder. “I’m through,” Prince told Vanity Fair. “I’m going to teach high school. ... History and economics. I may even coach wrestling. Hey, Indiana Jones taught school, too.”

POPSIt’s Not Me, It’s You I recently ended a coaching relationship with a client. It's not something I want to do but it needs to happen from time to time. Let me tell you the details: Just over a year ago, I had a client approach me and ask me to coach them in their businesses. They owned three small businesses but weren't seeing success in any of them. We met every other week and spent the first couple of months figuring out what his goals were and what was going on in his business.
