Israel develops 'Kosher bomb' to counter Iranian threat
foxyarse
by foxyarse  12-19-2009
'It is lawful to use pork chops and bacon if it is for the defense of home and country', said Rabbi Menahan of the Orthodox sect. 'Of course, this can only be considered Kosher in the most dire of circumstances -- which we now have.' Some doubted that this Kosher bomb would be effective, but Nathan was certain it would serve as a deterrent. 'In Islam, anything made from the flesh of a pig is considered to be haram (wrongful, forbidden). If this super-weapon were deployed against Iran, the entire country would become haram, and all those who believe in Allah would be required to drop everything and flee.' In Iran, Ayatollah Wannabe was enraged by the news. 'Now that we know how the Kosher bomb works, we will develop our own counter-deterrent', he said. 'We will develop a 'haram-bomb' based on pork roasts and cutlets, and render Israel uninhabitable for the Jews.'

On New Year’s Eve, we learned that Qais Khazali has been released, apparently as part of a prisoner exchange for British hostage Peter Moore. Laith Khazali was already released six months ago. Peter Moore was kidnapped in May 2007, explicitly to be used as a bargaining chip for the freedom of the Khazali brothers. The circumstances around Qais Khazali’s release are murky, with the usual denials and clarifications swirling around like a cloud of confetti over Times Square on New Years’ Eve. Multi National Force spokesmen claim this was not a hostage trade, but rather an attempt to comply with “the implementation of the U.S. " Iraq Security Agreement” and support a “reconciliation process.” Some suggest this is all part of an elaborate intelligence operation. Republican Senators Jeff Sessions and Jon Kyl have already sent a letter to the Obama Administration, citing an executive order signed by President Reagan in 1986 that prohibits concessions to terrorist hostage .....

More and more e-books being stored on the 'cloud'
HansWobbe

It will be very interesting to see which of these approaches becomes the preferred option, and especially how popular "demand" affects "price". Given the increasing availability of "annotation" services that overlay web content and the increasing demands on personal time, it is easy to anticipate that "user generated" annotation content may well become the modern equivalent of the Reader's Digest "condensed" book.

CHEMTRAILS' are widely observed in NUMEROUS countries: Britain, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, France, Switzerland, etc. Military and civil authorities in these countries are reluctant to give information on exactly what is being sprayed by aircraft to cause this new, man-made type of 'cloud' cover. One suggested explanation is that it is to reduce the effects of 'Global Warming'. BUT WE ALL NO THERE IS NO SUCH THING as GLOBAL warming. Google chemtrails.......you will get an education....and be thankful you did. This must be stopped.

The Fluff Is Coming! The Fluff Is Coming!
mcsmithblack
by mcsmithblack  12-23-2009
"There could be interesting times ahead!" says Opher." More from the article below: "The fact that the Fluff is strongly magnetized means that other clouds in the galactic neighborhood could be, too. Eventually, the solar system will run into some of them, and their strong magnetic fields could compress the heliosphere even more than it is compressed now. Additional compression could allow more cosmic rays to reach the inner solar system, possibly affecting terrestrial climate and the ability of astronauts to travel safely through space. On the other hand, astronauts wouldn't have to travel so far because interstellar space would be closer than ever. These events would play out on time scales of tens to hundreds of thousands of years, which is how long it takes for the solar system to move from one cloud to the next."

Deep-Sea Volcano Seen By Scientists For First Time
ratilfar
by ratilfar  12-18-2009    2
The eruption was a spectacular sight: Bright-red lava bubbles shot out of the volcano, releasing a smoke-like cloud of sulfur. The lava froze almost instantly as it hit the cold sea water, causing black rock to sink to the sea floor. The submersible hovered near the blasts, its robotic arm reaching into the lava to collect samples. Earth and ocean scientists said the eruption allowed them to see for the first time the creation of a material called boninite, which had previously been found only in samples at least a million years old.

The Rachel Maddow Show: U.S. Ties to Ugandan Anti-Gay Bill
ratilfar
by ratilfar  12-3-2009
In a moment, we‘ll speak with Jeff Sharlet who has written extensively about the secret of Evangelical religious organization called The Family. We first started discussing The Family on this show when it emerged as a player in, not two, but three Republican sex scandals - those of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, Nevada Senator John Ensign and the alleged sex scandal involving former Mississippi Congressman Chip Pickering. Jeff Sharlet is now reporting that there aren‘t just ties between American Evangelical Rick Warren and the “kill the gays” bill in Uganda. He reports that, in fact, the president of Uganda and the legislator who introduced the “kill the gays” bill are more than just supported by American Evangelicals. They are both members of The Family.

A Cloud Still Hangs Over
debbyski
by debbyski  12-3-2009    1
The families of the dead got an average of $2,200; the wounded got $550; a Dow spokeswoman explained, that amount “is plenty good for an Indian.” As Representative Frank Pallone of New Jersey observed in 2006, “In Bhopal, some of the world’s poorest people are being mistreated by one of the world’s richest corporations. The Indian government, fearful of scaring away foreign investors, has not pushed the issue with American authorities. Dow has used a kind of blackmail with the Indians; a 2006 letter from Andrew Liveris, the chief executive, to India’s ambassador to the United States asked for guarantees that Dow would not be held liable for the cleanup, and thanked him for his “efforts to ensure that we have the appropriate investment climate.”

A cloud still hangs over Bhopal
Lexica
by Lexica  12-3-2009
More: What’s missing in the whole sad story is any sense of a human connection between the faceless people who run the corporation and the victims. In 1995, a Bhopali woman named Sajida Bano sent a handwritten letter to Union Carbide. The factory had killed her husband in 1981 in an accident, and then, on the night of the disaster, her 4-year-old son. “You put your hand on your heart and think,” she wrote, “if you are a human being: if this happened to you, how would your wife and children feel?” She never received a response. The survivors of Bhopal want only to be treated as human beings — not victims, not greedy money-grabbers, just human beings who’ve gone through hell and are entitled to a measure of dignity. That includes concrete things like cleaning up the mess and providing health care for the sick, and also something more abstract but equally important — an acknowledgment that a wrong was done to them, and an apology, which Bhopalis have yet to receive.

Thomas Sowell: Random Thoughts
merrie
by merrie  12-1-2009    1
Stepping beyond your competence can be like stepping off a cliff. Too many people with brilliance and talent within some field do not realize how ignorant– or, worse yet, misinformed– they are when talking like philosopher-kings about other things. Government pressures on mortgage lenders to accept less than the full amount they are owed may win votes for politicians, since there are far more borrowers than lenders. But how much future lending can be expected when the lenders know that politicians are ready to intervene at any time to prevent them from getting their money back? People who are urging us to do things to win the approval of other countries seem to put an excessive value on other country’s approval, as distinguished from their respect that we can lose by such bowing to “world opinion.” Do the world champion New York Yankees try to curry favor with teams that are also-rans?

“The processes in the IPCC are so robust, so inclusive, that even if an author or two has a particular bias it is completely unlikely that bias will find its way into the IPCC report,” he said. What absolute bunk! From the very beginning of the global warming story we’ve seen example after example which confirms how the UN climate panel process has been corrupted. The hacked emails simply confirm what we have known all along. This isn’t about science, it’s about money and power.
