POPSA clock with no hands makes a pretty awesome clock! Some of the things people come up with these days is just amazing and this is definitely one of those things. It's so simple yet so genius! In case you can't see them, the hands are projected using LED's around the perimeter of the face of the clock.

POPSWhen Liberal Dreams Collide With Public Opinion
"What's really exceptional at this stage of Obama's presidency," writes Andrew Kohut, the Pew Research Center's respected pollster, "is the extent to which the public has moved in a conservative direction on a range of issues. These trends have emanated as much from the middle of the electorate as from the highly energized conservative right. From which we can draw two conclusions. One is that economic distress does not move Americans to support more government. Rasmussen reports that 66 percent of Americans favor smaller government with fewer services and only 22 percent favor more services and higher taxes. The second is that Barack Obama's persuasive powers are surprisingly weak. His advocacy seems to have moved Americans in the opposite of the intended direction. Obama first came to national attention in 2004 by promising to heal partisan, ideological and racial divisions. Like the other two Democratic presidents elected in the last 40 years .....

POPS$100,000,000,000 A Year OR End-Days The president's speech followed the publication of draft text, obtained by the Guardian this morning, that reveals the enormous progress needed from world leaders in the final hours of the Copenhagen climate change summit to achieve a strong deal. The draft says countries "ought" to limit global warming to 2C, but crucially does not bind them to do so. The text, drafted by a select group of 28 leaders " including UK prime minister, Gordon Brown " in the early hours of this morning, also proposes extending negotiations for another year until the next scheduled UN meeting on climate change in Mexico City in December 2010. POPSMorning Must Reads -- Chinese Won't Bow to Obama
that Democrats haven’t reached a deal. The Senate is moving on to a year-end defense appropriations bill until Saturday as Majority Leader Harry Reid tries to whip his caucus into shape. We don’t know who is objecting behind closed doors, but Nebraska’s Ben Nelson, who opposes abortion and some tax increases, is the most public of the skeptics right now. Reid is trying to spur action by imposing a hideous, around-the-clock schedule on the Senate through Christmas, but few believe right now that Reid can make his year-end deadline. “With Mr. Nelson's vote in doubt, President Barack Obama met with Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe, the lone Republican to show interest in supporting the package, to see if she would back the bill. Sen. Snowe is an abortion-rights supporter. ‘He'd prefer to get this moving,’ Sen. Snowe said. She added that she urged the president to postpone action and use ‘part of January’ to deal with her concerns, which include a proposal to establish a new long-term

POPSRemember Cassette Tapes? These Are Amazing! Ghost in the Machine: "In this series I showcase a number of portraits of musicians made out of recycled cassette tape with original cassette. Also included are portraits made from old film and reels. The idea comes from a philosopher's (Ryle) description of how your spirit lives in your body. I imagine we are all, like cassettes, thoughts wrapped up in awkward packaging." : )

POPSRemains of Roman Tower Discovered Near the Eastgate Clock in Chester
“Several of these towers have been found over the last hundred years and we knew there should be one in this vicinity but it is remarkable that we hit on exactly the right spot and that it has survived so well in this location. “The last time we had the chance to investigate one of these was during the development at Abbey Green more than 30 years ago. Although we know a lot about the archaeology of Chester, there will always be exciting, unexpected discoveries like this.” Restoration specialist Maysand is undertaking the work to repair the Walls section, joined by a team of specialists from Giffords, English Heritage, Chester Renaissance and Cheshire West and Chester Council. “A tumble of large stones was found on each side of the Roman wall, probably from the collapse of the tower sometime after the fortress was abandoned and before the City Wall was built. “It is hoped that these will be able to be reused in the rebuild so that something of this hidden history ....

POPSSwiss and Muslims compromise
For many years the major Swiss export import has been unemployment. The number of immigrants allowed in depends solely on the requirement for waiters and chamber maids. However, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel because Paul-Andre Guex representative for the Canton of Vaud and keen ornithologist has suggested that any Minarets built from now on should be embellished in a rather unconventional yet possibly more acceptable way. "It is well-known that the only thing we ever invented in this country was a couple of Type Faces nobody uses and the Cuckoo Clock. I have proposed to the Berne Government that problems could be avoided if all Minaret domes were in the form of Chalet-shaped Cuckoo Clocks or weather indicators instead of looking like oriental lollipops. "Here in Switzerland we have a bird called the wall creeper which has a call that sounds exactly like "Allahu Akbah", we could put them in the clocks so the Imams could call the faithful to prayer as they usu

POPS Deutsche Bank's Countdown to The Carbon Bubble Deutsche Bank's ... JUNK SCIENCE AWARD ...THE RUBBER DUCKIE To banks and financial players now lobbying Washington, Ottawa and governments everywhere, the rolling carbon counter is a rolling dollar counter. At 1,000 tonnes a second, if each tonne could be hit with a $50 carbon tax or carbon trading fee, that’s $50,000 a second, which works out to $2-billion a month. The potential, obviously, is in the trillions of dollars " bigger, even, than the global sub-prime crash. Citigroup, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs are all part of campaigns to push the Obama administration to adopt carbon trading. Read more: http://bit.ly/61hjeK

POPSNews from Nepal: preparations underway for world's largest mass animal sacrifice From The Himalayan Times, some information about logistical preparation for Ghadimai fair (Nov. 24 and 25), which is the site of what is thought to be the world's largest mass slaughter of sacrificial animals (mostly goats, buffalo, and fowl). 250 butchers have been appointed as official slaughterers, a stadium-sized structure for the simultaneous killing of 10,000 buffalo has been erected, and a 3-km wide stretch of land has been set aside for the butchering.

POPSThe Shweeb velodrome is the worlds first human powered monorail racetrack [PICS] WOOOHOOOO! Looks like fun! The Shweeb velodrome is the world’s first human-powered monorail racetrack. It has two long overhead rail circuits, varying in height between two and four metres above the ground. High-performance pedal-powered vehicles hang under the tracks. The pods swing freely from side to side and as your speed picks up, you swing wildly around corners and soar high and low over undulating terrain. Up to five vehicles can be loaded onto each track, enabling teams to race each other either one-on-one or in tandem or you can race against the clock.

POPSSleep Amnesia: Why Do We Forget Our Dreams? The Mind in Sleep: Psychology and Psychophysiology mentions dream kinesthesia as a potential suspect. It happens when we lose the physical movements in our sleep as soon as we physically move after waking up (such as when we reach for the alarm clock). Another possibility is that our memories are formed through repetition and finding connections to other parts of our lives. So when dreams are especially unique (read: crazy) or too undefined to be relatable, it’s harder to tie them to real-life events and remember them. Christof Koch, points out the incongruity between our brains’ being so active during REM sleep (the deep-sleep stage in our sleep cycles) and only vaguely recalling dream details when we awaken. brain waves that roll through during deep sleep may impede information processing. This is a more scientific approach to the brain-recall conundrum.
