Backdoor Legislation: Obama Signs Hate Crimes Bill with Defense Bill
blueridge
by blueridge  10-28-2009    7
How to Pass Unpopular Legislation 101: Attach them to Defense Spending. This is how Bush administration got through REAL ID. This is contrary to the purpose of Congress which should read and debate ONE BILL AT A TIME, instead of this fraudulent manipulation through "must pass" Defense bills. As for the bill itself, while a woman could slap a man for being too forward in a bar now normal men cannot do the same to a pressing homosexual who might "hit on them" without being charged with a new Federal "Hate Crime". Some are just "more equal than others" now and have Special Protection of the Federal government ABOVE all other U.S. citizens.

I Can Find A More Worthy Charity
debbyski

"But think about those numbers, think about the power of the Salvation Army. It is a massive Christian evangelical organization — with a quasi-military structure and raising $2 billion a year — and it promotes discrimination against gays and lesbians in its employment policy; at local levels of government, going so far as to threaten to close soup kitchens in New York if the city enacted domestic partnership legislation; and at the national level of government, including negotiating with the Bush administration to guarantee that faith-based groups could discriminate against gays and keep their federal funding. We can find charities more deserving of our dollars and our volunteer time."

"Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009" (amnesty)

by merrie  12-21-2009    2
Provides temporary visas and work authorization for detained workers when they have been retaliated against by their employer for asserting their labor rights and they agree to pursue labor claims against their employer. Also expands U visas to provide for whistleblower protections with regard to worker exploitation, civil rights violations and retaliation for exercising labor rights. Not to repeat myself, but this is yet another chance to thwart enforcement, in this case affirmatively: by obtaining a work permit. Expect illegal aliens to file bogus claims and sympathetic members of the judicial system to more or less let them get away with it. Ending discrimination: Preempts any state or local law that discriminates against an individual based on immigration status or imposes sanctions on any individual or entity based on the immigration status of its clients, employees or tenants. This is one of the hidden gems, in which they try to prevent things such as the

Why is marriage a civil right?
Lexica
by Lexica  11-14-2009    1
More: This is why refusing communion is not a violation of civil rights - because communion is not a civil contract, it does not confer civil rights or responsibilities, and is therefore not a matter of civil law. I will say it yet again. Your laws that say same-sex couples can't get married are the same laws that say they can't eat shrimp or cut their beards. Which is fine and well for you, but I'm going to continue to enjoy my crab louie salad bare-faced without even humoring the idea that I need to protect, defend, and preserve your "sanctity of brunch".

Justice arrives: Three cops among five indicted for obstructing federal hate-crime investigation i
ratilfar
by ratilfar  12-15-2009
The Ramirez case was a classic example of why we needed to pass a federal bias-crime law -- especially considering the outrageous circumstances in which the local jury slapped the young thugs on the wrist: his was a pretty clear-cut case of jury nullification: the weight of evidence against the accused was so powerful that it's clear the all-white jury -- like similar juries in the South during the Civil Rights struggle -- was not going to convict two young white men of murdering a Mexican. Even if, as Friedman says, "the only reason he is dead is because he was Mexican." As they poured out of courthouse, the teens' supporters shouted "I was right from the start" and "I'm glad the jury listened" at cameras that caught the late-night verdict.

An Eventual Reality
debbyski
by debbyski  12-10-2009    1
Every person is entitled to explore and express their sexuality with another consenting adult without the burden of shame. But the "normal" process of exploration is inevitably influenced by our culture--a culture that is laden with negatively towards homosexuality. The good news is that as people become more educated and tolerant of differences in other's, our society slowly changes. However, some conservative Republicans would have us believe that young people are foolish and "will get with the program" and become bigots eventually. Well, it's complete hogwash and I don't buy it and I don't think most Americans do either. Googlet said in a comment on one of my clips that we probably won't see gay marriage accepted in my lifetime. That's ok--attitudes are slowly changing and it's so encouraging.

HealthCare for Dummies; A Felon's Handbook for Progressives
merrie
by merrie  12-7-2009    3
This former Congresswoman from Colorado feels a little silly recommending a book by the husband of one of Congress's greatest progressive current representatives, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky from Chicago! The real political experience of Robert Creamer makes "Listen to Your Mother, Stand Up Straight!" one of the best "how to do it" books around. Progressives are always accused of being policy wonks with no real political experience on how to deliver. Not the case here, you get the policy and but also how to make that policy a reality! -- Pat Schroeder, President Association of American Publishers, Former Member of Congress If Progressives are ready to move beyond the Age of W into a winning era, they can start with Stand Up Straight. This is more than a call to arms. This is a battle plan from one of the best campaign minds in America. Bob Creamer takes his readers from values to votes with practical tactics and insight gathered over decades of experience.

At least the New York Times actually reported Holder's Congressional thumping. Pay ACORN, the defiant DOJ hack admonishes. Now DOJ has authority over Congress. Representatives Wolf and Smith have sent numerous requests to Holder asking for documentation of his Black Panther dismissal. Rep. Issa has demanded an explanation of Kevin Johnson's predatory sexual behaviors with underage Americorp students, not to mention his squandering of $400,000 on personal expenses like chauffeuring and dry cleaning. Jennifer Rubin's latest Weekly Standard report details the US Civil Rights Commission investigation into the Black Panther dismissal. Yup. You guessed it. No response from Holder or the DOJ. Finally, the White House czars have been reported in the alternative media, and given the obligatory nod in the msm. However, Breitbart's expose on the National Endowment for the Arts has been politely ignored. So expect to see those armies of taxpayer funded artists creating propaganda whene

Free The Fallujah One!
merrie
by merrie  11-25-2009    1
This is frightful. The man wanted for murdering four Americans, torching and dangling their charred bodies from a bridge while a mob danced gleefully around for the cameras may have been criminally roughed up while being deprived of his liberty, to the point of suffering a grievously emfattened lip! The real question is not whether these swabs will be dragged before courts martial while U.S. counter-terrorism operations are disrupted. That goes without saying. The question is whether Mr. Abed will be allowed to pursue justice in an American court. Not just to repudiate any criminal charges he may face, but to seek redress in a civil action for the fat lip he has endured. It’s been well-established after all in KSM, Holder etal vs. Common Sense, that people who conspire overseas to kill Americans are fully entitled to U.S. constitutional rights, to include full media circus access and OJ defense protocols as established under the Ito precedent.

Racism + White Nationalism = What % of Anti-Immigration Reform?
nedhamson1
by nedhamson1  11-24-2009    2
It is going to be hard to figure this one, since John Tauton and his ilk have been practicing for more than ten years how to hide within and behind causes and organizations that seem to not be racist or white nationalists. The closer we get to real reform, the easier it will get - the specks of foam on their suits, the more outlandish their claims and the increase in hate crimes. The ugliest part will begin to resemble the break up of the former Yugoslavia - when people were urged to take part in torture and mass killings to serve the "cause" of ethnic cleansing.

Thomas Sowell: Random Thoughts
merrie
by merrie  11-10-2009    1
But what this means is that even the record-breaking federal deficit understates the government's real financial liabilities, because agencies like FDIC and the Federal Housing Authority are likely to need increased amounts of money to keep going. An e-mail from a reader says that liberals like to take the moral high ground, even though their own moral relativism means that there is no moral high ground. I doubt whether the man responsible for the massacre at Fort Hood will pay with his life for the lives that he took. He may well be free again someday. We can only hope that he does not get a hero's welcome when he arrives in some terror-sponsoring country, the way the Lockerbie bomber did. A recent study by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights showed that, after the housing boom and bust, blacks, whites, Hispanics, Asian Americans and American Indians all reduced their subprime mortgage loans. Only politicians seem not to have learned anything from the economic disaster ...

A quiet voice for gay marriage
ratilfar
by ratilfar  11-8-2009    8
Many of these former spouses -- from those who still feel raw resentment toward their exes to those who have reached a mutual understanding -- see the legalization of same-sex marriage as a step toward protecting not only homosexuals but also heterosexuals. If homosexuality was more accepted, they say, they might have been spared doomed marriages followed by years of self-doubt. "It's like you hit a brick wall when they come out," Brooks said. "You think everything is fine and then, boom!" Carolyn Sega Lowengart calls it "retroactive humiliation." It's that embarrassment that washes over her when she looks back at photographs or is struck by a memory and wonders what, if anything, from that time was real. Did he ever love her?

Carrie Prejean Goes Down. Literally!
ratilfar
by ratilfar  11-6-2009    2
Of course, all of this should have little effect on her career. If anything it will add fuel to it with the way Americans are infatuated with hypocrites and fallen angels. Vivid Entertainment Group, which specializes in adult films, made an offer of a million dollars to Prejean back in May to make a movie for them. Seems she might be a natural. This could only raise her value in the porn market. Practice makes perfect. I'm curious as to how all the rightwing Prejean backers will spin this and find a way to blame this on everyone but Prejean. I might even turn on Fox News to check it out. With Prejean's looks and attitude, she may end up with her own show over there since credibility isn't a factor in Fox's hiring practices. And for those of you who don’t remember who actually won the Miss California Pageant, her name is Tami Ferrell from Malibu. How soon we forget those with actual morals.

by debbyski  11-4-2009    1
{{iamonetoo}} told me once that she didn't understand why it had to be so hard to be herself. She could have taken the easy way. But she didn't and I admire her. Social change is hard, long and difficult work. It will often spawn hatred by other's who are just ignorant of human differences. That's ok; the struggle of civil rights for everyone is always worth it :)
