How To Handle A Roadblock - If You Aren't DUI

It’s important to note that in the DUI/DWI context, the right to counsel does not attach until "after" the decision on whether to submit to or refuse the blood or breath test.

Only Rhetorical Extravagance by George Will
merrie
by merrie  Today 3:20 AM    2
Obama thinks government is not getting a "reasonable share" of oil companies' profits, which in 2007 were, as a percentage of revenues (8.3 percent), below those of U.S. manufacturing generally (8.9 percent). Exxon Mobil pays almost as much in corporate taxes to various governments as the bottom 50 percent of American earners pay in income taxes. Exxon Mobil does make $1,400 a second in profits -- hear the sharp intakes of breath from liberals with pursed lips -- but pays $4,000 a second in taxes and $15,000 a second in operating costs. Obama's rhetorical extravagances are inversely proportional to his details, as when he promises "nothing less than a complete transformation of our economy" in order to "end the age of oil." The diminished enthusiasm of some voters hitherto receptive to his appeals might have something to do with the seepage of reality from his rhetoric.

........ and The Whimper of the Oppressed is Barely Heard........ I wonder, though, if anyone oohing and aahing over the fireworks in Beijing gave thought to the thousands of Chinese peasants who will die because their government took their water away so it could produce the fake beauty of the Olympic compound. Maybe we’ll see that story show up in an NBC news report, do you think? I’m sure the network will get right on that as soon as it gets up off its knees and straightens up its clothing.

Thomas Paine and American Values
willhelm
by willhelm  8-24-2008
"Aspirations of Thomas Paine and his fellow liberal-progressives toward economic equality as the necessary condition for earthly social perfection gave us the bloody French Revolution. More than 70,000 French citizens – from children to the elderly – were murdered on the guillotine, by hanging, and by firing squads, in the name of "Liberty, Equality, Brotherhood." Those same liberal-progressive ideals espoused by Thomas Paine gave us the 20th century, the most savagely sanguinary and oppressive period in human history, all in the name of perfecting humanity." These realities combined with the motivations from Rousseau laid the foundations for nationalism and socialism that came to fruition in the early 20th century Europe.

Biden's ratings from Club for Growth were 1% in 2006 and 17% in 2007. Biden on the Right to Life: The National Right to Life Committee rated Joe Biden 0% over the 2001-2002 and 2005-2006 terms. The National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) has been much more generous. Biden racked up solid 100% ratings from NARAL in 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Where are the marches for peace?
willhelm
by willhelm  8-10-2008    45
"Ah, who am I kidding? It is one thing to march against the country that liberated half of Europe and kept it that way for the following 50 years. It is quite another to march against a nation that enslaved half of Europe and kept it under a bloody slavery for 50 years. I can see the morally bankrupt relativist lefty loonies massing to the streets to protest the overthrow of a regional warmonger who managed to kill at least half a million of his own citizens in a few decades. It takes no courage to stand up against that, only vast amounts of ignorance and self adoration."

The mission statement of the ACLU states: The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees: Your First Amendment rights - freedom of speech, association and assembly; freedom of the press, and freedom of religion. I wonder what changed?

International Criminal Court and Russia

No teeth... like everything else the UN sponsors. Cont... (Russia apparently will help ethnic Russian citizens of Georgia file claims with the ICC. Russia itself has no power to ask the ICC to act, but Georgians do. Sneaky!) Meanwhile, here’s a question for the weekend. Suppose Georgia had been a member of NATO when Russia invaded its territory earlier this month. Would NATO military forces have honored the treaty obligation and launched a military response even though no one in the west thinks that Georgia is worth World War III? If not, would NATO have been revealed as a meaningless institution? Or should we assume that Russia would not have attacked Georgia in the first place for fear of provoking a military response from NATO?

Stop Pelosi Now! Demand Maximum American Energy – Now!
merrie
by merrie  8-21-2008    2
Rep. Thaddeus McCotter has a message for Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the House Democratic caucus, and he wanted it delivered at Hot Air. Not surprisingly, then, the Speaker’s latest lethargy proposal apes other energy schemes she’s brought to the House floor without amendment and under a super-majority vote requirement. Desperate to guarantee these bills’ defeats and blame Republicans, the Speaker orchestrated the nauseating spectacle of “Don’t Care” Democrats, who a few months ago wouldn’t vote to drill a tooth, now hugging derricks instead of trees. This time, though, with a month of vacation under her Beltway, Pelosi’s ploy has a new wrinkle. In the media she is floating specious reasons why Republicans will vote against her radical cornucopia of energy insecurity. What she still fails to grasp, as with all her energy scams, is that the public will not be misled.

Is McCain another George W. Bush?
monstersmom
by monstersmom  8-19-2008    2
"George Bush's record as a student, military man, businessman and leader of the free world is one of constant failure. And the part that troubles me most is he seems content with himself." "He will leave office with the country $10 trillion in debt, fighting two wars, our international reputation in shambles, our government cloaked in secrecy and suspicion that his entire presidency has been a litany of broken laws and promises, our citizens' faith in our own country ripped to shreds. Yet Bush goes bumbling along, grinning and spewing moronic one-liners, as though nobody understands what a colossal failure he has been." "I fear to the depth of my being that John McCain is just like him."

Where Does Money Come From?
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  7-30-2008
"Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the Field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere -- so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive -- that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it." -Woodrow Wilson Where does money come from? Why doesn't your government own it's own money? Why does your government borrow all it's money from private banks at interest? What is "fractional reserve banking?" Our money system is a big fucking ponzi scheme, based on debt. IOUs. And IOUs taken out against IOUs. This is how the housing market collapsed, massive numbers of people unable (or too fucking smart) to continue paying the debt on houses that ad less value than the debt itself. If you use money and carry any kind of debt, you need to watch this video.

Patients 'should not expect NHS to save their life if it costs too much'
Smoke TNT
by Smoke TNT  8-15-2008
"Nice defended its ruling last night saying that the Citizens Council provided useful input to its decisions but that the organisation's role was to determine how best to allocate the health service's limited resources." "Nice is facing increasing accusations that it is giving undue weight to financial considerations - rather than medical benefits - when making decisions on whether to allow drugs or other treatments on the NHS. Doctors and patients have alleged that they are treated with contempt by the organisation and that life-saving drugs are being unfairly denied. "

A tale of two cities
queerty
by queerty  8-15-2008    1
City council officials initially claimed no mistake had been made and the "generic skyline intended to symbolise an urban area". But a spokesman has now admitted the authority was at fault. "Birmingham is immensely proud of its recycling record and this leaflet has helped to get the recycling message across to thousands of our enthusiastic citizens over the last 15 months," he said. "We accept that the wrong photo was used, but the text and detail contained in the leaflet is wholly correct which is the most important message." He said it had received only one complaint about the error and there were no plans to reprint the leaflet. The mayor of Birmingham, Alabama, Larry P Langford, said he took the mistake as a compliment. He said: "People have a tendency, as you well know, to get all bent out of shape over stuff. "Life is too short. I thought it was flattering. And please continue to use the skyline - it doesn't bother me."

Life in these United Police States!
boniface
by boniface  8-14-2008    6
"This just isn't very surprising, is it? More and more often, honest, decent and law abiding citizens are finding that the police are at best adversarial, and more often than not, actually seem to take pleasure in agressive, bullying tactics. We are learning, like citizens of police states everywhere, to lie to cops even when we don't have anything to hide. Personally, I would never trust a cop to act decently, honestly or professionally. Punks, thugs and bullies are far too well represented in all branches of police, sheriffs and constable offices today in America." --Falon
