Barack Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  10-9-2009    3
This news, announce today, appears to have surprised almost everyone. But what is no surprise is that if you are on the side on warmongers, neocons, racist, those who ok torture, corporate exploitation of people and the land than you want to destroy this president. If you have hopes for peace, progress in alternative energies and new directions, national health care, unions and decent wages than this is the man who is on the frontlines fighting for these things. Closing down the suicidal plans for putting nuke missiles on the border with Poland was one clear change that we can see -- because it meant direct European and USA military conflict with Russia. This fact maybe lost in the madness of 24-hour news but it was 4sure. That dangerous and unnecessary Bush Era program is ended...and Obama gets attacked at home by the warmongers for "backing down to Russia." Like the Nobel Committee said....we see he is for real, we see he is trying, and we add our hopes to his and encour

Award for Best Russian Accent in Hollywood
merrie
by merrie  7-25-2009    1
Russia! Magazine ‘Best Russian Accent' Award RUSSIA! Magazine is proud to present actor Viggo Mortensen, the star of David Cronenberg's hit Eastern Promises (2007), with its inaugural Rolling R " an annual award for the best "Russian" performance by a Hollywood actor. The official citation commends Mortensen for his "sensitive, multifaceted and authentic" portrayal of Nikolai, a morally conflicted thug. http://us.imdb.de/title/tt0765443/ "Almost every major American actor has, at some point, tried on a Russian accent," writes RUSSIA! Magazine in its Fall 2007 issue. "Tom Cruise? Spoke it in Mission: Impossible. Bruce Willis? The Jackal. Val Kilmer? The Saint. Al Pacino? The Devil’s Advocate. Almost all of them sucked." RUSSIA!'s own list of five all-time best "Russian" performances, published in the same issue, has Nicole Kidman at the top for her turn in the little-seen Birthday Girl. She is followed by John Malkovich in Rounders, Cate Blanchett in The Man Who Cried,

Volunteer-Humanitarian Convicted of Littering while "Trying to Save Lives"
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  6-14-2009    6
Has the U.S. really become this heartless? Border Patrol agents actually removed bottles of water that had been placed to help prevent these people from dying of thirst. When government agents and our judicial system begin using such a silly and extremely under-enforced law to block humanitarian aid, we have lost the right to call ourselves a humanitarian nation. This goes beyond any form of law enforcement role these agents are sworn to perform. These agents should be ashamed of themselves.

Your Pocket Guide to Speaking Palin-guage (Vol.1)
dulios
by dulios  9-3-2008    3
If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you're "reckless." A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a "maverick." If you say that for the "first time in my adult lifetime I'm really proud of my country" it makes you "unfit" to be First Lady. If you are a registered member of a fringe political group that advocates secession that makes you "First Dude." A DUI from twenty years ago is "old news." A speech given without proper citation from twenty years ago is "relevant information." And, finally, if you're a man and you decide to run for office despite your wife's recurrence of cancer you're a "questionable spouse." If you're a woman and you decide to run for office despite having five kids including a newborn... Well, we don't know what that is 'cause THAT'S NOT A FAIR QUESTION TO ASK. Just learned a new one: IOKIYAR: It's OK if you're a Republican!

Victoria Cross Old Guard Salute New Hero Mark Donaldson
merrie
by merrie  1-18-2009    2
One of the last to leave, Trooper Donaldson, spotted the Afghan interpreter lying wounded in open ground more than 80m away. “His movement, once identified by the enemy, drew intense and accurate machine gun fire from entrenched positions,” the citation says. “Upon reaching the wounded coalition force interpreter, Trooper Donaldson picked him up and carried him back to the relative safety of the vehicles and then provided immediate first aid before returning to the fight.” Some Australian VC history via The Australian. Old Digger Keith Payne, who earned his in Vietnam remarked: “I’m absolutely delighted we have a live one … At a party like his, the chances of coming out alive are pretty negative - and he never got hit, and that’s amazing.” Here’s Donaldson and the wife: After official photographs flanked with senior army brass, Australia’s latest VC winner, accompanied by his wife, Emma, and two-year-old daughter, Kaylee, spoke briefly to the media.

Webster's suggestion of using "tung" instead of "tongue" didn't stick, though. Today Webster's name is synonymous with dictionaries and the date of his birth is observed as Dictionary Day. In his honor, this week we'll present words about words. As Webster said, "the process of a living language is like the motion of a broad river which flows with a slow, silent, irresistible current."

Republican Congressman: Russia was Right!
blueridge
by blueridge  9-16-2008    3
But you won't hear this from McCain or Palin, nor Obama or other democrats, who all parrot the LIE of the neocon's official story. A bold republican Congressman is quoted, virtually paraphrasing the piece written by Pat Buchanan earlier (which I clipmarked, "Georgia Started It, Russia Finished It"). The tide against the propaganda is turning. Buchanan, Savage, now this Congressman and many more. Now this is from a Russian news agency, so to be objective I see no citation of the title that "US Intelligence" (not just the Congressman quoted) takes this view. But then the MSM does not report intelligence usually. They usually parrot the neocon propaganda. Note the unreported toll on civilians in just a few days in S. Ossetia, from Georgia's assault! More than 1500 civilians were killed in that time, according to South Ossetian authorities.

Shop or Drop? does it have physical correlates?
balthazarus
by balthazarus  7-21-2008
some technicals citation from the article: "Researchers discovered that when the product first flashed on the screen it activated the nucleus accumbens, a section near the middle of the brain that has been implicated in the brain's reward center, effectively appraising the item. When the price appeared, the scientists noticed activity in the mesial prefrontal cortex, a region of the brain known for higher executive functions. Its activity seemed to vary according to the difference between what someone would pay for an item and its actual cost, as if in error adjustment. Finally, the response of the insula (a lateral section of the brain's cortex known to activate during responses to negative stimuli) depended on the purchasing decision--activity there increased when a participant nixed a purchase." what is interesting here is our human crave to understand more and more...
