POPSVintage Rio These pictures came into my possession by way of a friend whose father came to Brazil as a missionary in the mid 1930's. They come from postcards he gathered while in Rio. I have others from the city of Belem, as well as pictures he took of the region where I live, but these shots of Rio in the '30s are spectacular.

POPSMore Fox News Lies I actually watched the episode in question and David did not urinate on the Jesus painting. The painting, which was placed adjacent to the toilet, received a splash of water/urine while David was urinating into the toilet. There is a vast difference between what was reported and what occurred. I included some comments by the "outraged" Christians who commented on this "story". Fox "News" accomplished their purpose by infuriating their gullible viewers. I feel piety for people like this who are being led around by the nose.

POPSReligious sensitivities on all sides The reason I'm clipping this is because religious sensitivities are back in the news and Muslims are not the only one apparently offended all the time. The other reason I'm clipping this is because I've been watching Curb Your Enthusiasm (not this episode though) and I think Larry David should have folded his show last season. The episodes in the new season are utterly ridiculous and not funny. Like Seinfeld, his show has always been brilliant though but I think he has lost it by now.

Our government has grown so big and powerful that the rights of the individual are at risk. This is what the Constitution was about—to limit the size of government. The first official act in the First Continental Congress was to open in Christian prayer, which ended in these words: "...the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Savior. Amen". Sounds Christian to me. Ben Franklin, at the Constitutional Convention, said: "...God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?" John Adams stated so eloquently during this period of time that; "The general principles on which the fathers achieved Independence were ... the general principles of Christianity ... POPSBaptist Church to Burn Bibles This one certainly belongs in the LOONY BIN because of the bazaar reasoning of this apparently misguided congregation. I wish I could say that this is an isolated case but I know far too many "KING JAMES ONLY" adherents who would probably applaud this behavior. In my post To King James or Not to King James I wrote at great length on this issue. There has been an ongoing controversy surrounding this issue, but the way this old bird sees things, the crazy antics of this Baptist church makes me wonder if reading the KING JAMES bible causes otherwise rational people to loose all reason. This pastor and his 14 followers have certainly flown over the cuckoos nest. And that is how I see it! Eagle Out!

POPSAgain, with the persecution? Once again we're presented a picture of people believing that their overwhelming majority faith is somehow being persecuted. In fact, what the whining is all about is the erosion of Christian privilege above all other faiths or non-belief. These sheep simply don't grasp the concept of a secular government actually being a benefit to their belief system. Instead they view it as an attack against their religion. Naturally, these attitudes are being advanced by a media subset that is reaping an enormous financial gain by manipulating these rubes with false claims of losing their freedoms and being persecuted by a non-existent, frightening subculture bent on destroying their faith. There's a fool born every minute.
