POPSIdiots in the News I thought the "birther movement" was a dead horse to most sane people. Well, it just goes to show you that insanity/stupidity is alive and well in good ole Georgia.

POPSWhere in the World is Global Warming a Priority? Sure, there would be a huge transfer of wealth from the developed nations to developing nations, but that’s not what Torethy Frank wants. She says, “There is too much corruption in the government and it goes in people’s pockets. Give the money directly to the people for businesses so we can support ourselves without having to rely on the government.” As David Kreutzer mentions in his Politico chat wrap, there much faster and much less expensive ways to adapt to climate change than trying to change the temperature by capping greenhouse gas emissions. Mosquito nets and attacking breeding grounds of mosquitoes and building levees to protect against potentially rising sea levels are all much cheaper but dramatically more effective than signing on to something that would prohibit these countries to develop.

POPSProfile Of A Cyber Stalker
Cyberstalkers may research individuals to feed their obsessions and curiosity. Conversely, the acts of cyberstalkers may become more intense, such as repeatedly instant messaging their targets. More commonly they will post defamatory or derogatory statements about their stalking target on web pages, message boards and in guest books designed to get a reaction or response from their victim, thereby initiating contact. In some cases, they have been known to create fake blogs in the name of the victim containing defamatory or pornographic content. When prosecuted, many stalkers have unsuccessfully attempted to justify their behavior based on their use of public forums, as opposed to direct contact. Once they get a reaction from the victim, they will typically attempt to track or follow the victim's internet activity. Classic cyberstalking behavior includes the tracing of the victim's IP address in an attempt to verify their home or place of employment. A 2007 study, led

POPSNurse Encourages Suicides Online While the victims' families are frustrated that no charges have been filed, legal experts said prosecuting such a case would be difficult because Melchert-Dinkel didn't physically help kill them. In the meantime, he has been stripped of his nursing license. Last May, a Minnesota task force on Internet crimes searched Melchert-Dinkel's computer and found a Web chat between him and the young Canadian woman describing the best way to tie knots. In their search warrant, investigators said Melchert-Dinkel "admitted he has asked persons to watch their suicide via webcam but has not done so."

POPSThe REAL "Inconvenient Truth": Cell Phones and Bee Colony Collapse
Honey bees are in effect saying, "Can you hear us now?" The consequences of inaction on this are real and enormous. But unlike oil, coal or "carbon emissions", not even Al Gore or Obama will advocate giving up or curbing cell phones or towers, even though the hard facts on this are much more threatening to agriculture, and by consequence human life, the economy of foods, and the entire eco-system than the mythical "global warming" doomsday scenerio. Cell phones are America's and the world's unnecessary CONVENIENCE that apparently are not even being debated by the Climate people, willing to sacrifice the pollination of food crops by honey bees for cell chat. The buzz is real, but governments are not moving to regulate, and are likely too afraid of consumers who do not care about consequences any more than those who throw fast food trash out the window of their cars. There is also hard evidence of radiation from cell phones directly damaging human health.

POPSIllegal immigrant muslim tries to bomb Dallas building Does anyone see a pattern here. Muslim enters the U.S. illegally, then plots to set off bombs. I would be very curious how this vermin entered. My bet would be the Mexican border. You know, the one the democrats refuse to seal and protect. OK, so for every one of these rats we capture how many others are there out there living in those muslim enclaves, hatching plots? They say America doesn't export anything anymore. I suggest exporting muslims. Send them back to the s#@*hole they came from.

POPSSummits of Folly But the problem with this euphemistic approach to disarmament, as Lippmann noticed, is that it shifts the onus from the countries that can't be trusted with nuclear weapons to those that can. Is Nicolas Sarkozy, with his force de frappe, about to start World War III? Probably not, though he has the means to do so. Should Mr. Obama join hands with Iran and the Arab world in pushing for Israel's nuclear disarmament, on the view that if only the Jewish state would set the right example its enemies would no longer want to wipe it off the map? If that's what the president believes, he should say so publicly, especially since he's offering the same general prescription for America's nuclear deterrent. Of course what the administration wants is to set the right mood music for its upcoming talks with Iran. Mr. Obama would be better served having a chat with Moammar Gadhafi, who will be seated just a few chairs away at the Security Council: . . .

POPSStephen Fry: Twitter studies are pointless babble
A selection of sane comments: "Hear, hear!" "This is the best answer on the study on Twitter that I read so far!" "I heard that 40% of short-term studies are pointless babble…" "i would question how anyone could possibly create ‘meaningful commercial or political content’ in less than 140 characters!" "Nonsense is highly underrated, being the essence of all language." "Surely pointless babble is the best kind of babble, while the rest is nothing more than attemps to sell a product or a belief." "Without “Babble” our interactions would sound like the shipping forecast, and let’s face it, it’s not as though people really inwardly digest most of what is spoken at them." "but let’s get one thing clear, who the hell decides what is babble and what is not, what is worthy, what is not? " "I like to Twitter the same way that I like to chat " sometimes seriously, occasionally informatively, generally idly." "You wouldn’t condemn a party for being d

POPSFaster Than the Speed of Whaaa? Yes I know it's a pic of the New York skyline, but, what do you want from a Chinese newspaper? My friends in Johannesburg use those Internet cafes to message me, we can't use the chat because it takes so long. When they use Google's gmail, on their cellphones, it is almost immediate. I don't understand much about this stuff, but I hope things do get better for that country. I don't know where they even got the $mil to get that underwater cable. I guess Zuma is trying to pull it off though. He has a lot on his plate already.

POPSOn skepticism and sexism More: Some people wrote in suggesting that the topic wasn’t worthy of discussion, and that Carrie and I exaggerated the problems. Many of the responses showed that on the contrary, we underestimated the problem and were downright wrong to say that the only sexism in the community is unintentional.… Why is it that feminists are so often misrepresented as being too sensitive, when cases like this clearly show the opposite? Neither Carrie nor I ever told anyone “fuck you.” We never called anyone a sexist. We never lost our temper and we gave everyone the benefit of the doubt, assuming or accepting clarifications that an insult wasn’t intended. If only the same could be said for those who took offense to our discussion.
