More: Sports Tracker also recorded what time I normally leave the house in the morning and when I return from work. "If I wanted more information, then I could just stalk you," says Neil Buck, a senior analyst at DiskLabs.… "Out of context, an individual piece of information such as an SMS is almost meaningless," says Jones. "But when you have a large volume of information - a person's diary for the year, his emails, the plans he's building - and you start to put them together, you can make some interesting discoveries."

Behind the Scenes: Picturing Fetal Remains
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  10-9-2009    8
Other questions arose. How did you know for sure that Malachi was not a miscarriage? How did you know the damage to the fetus did not come from simple decomposition, or the month that it was outside the freezer? Mr. Benham said there was no doubt in his mind that the image captured the truth of abortion because Malachi was found at a clinic dedicated to abortions. He cited the mark by Malachi’s right ear. “You can see that, it’s forceps,” he said.

Neda Agha-Soltan's Fiance Has Been Released From Evin Prison in Iran
merrie
by merrie  9-19-2009
Amnesty International had been calling for Makan's release, claiming he had been ill treated in prison and subject to coercion and torture. The circumstances of his release and his imprisonment are not immediately clear, and Amnesty International has apparently suspended its appeal but is continuing to monitor Makan's situation. Others involved in the circumstances surrounding the now-famous videotaped death of the young Neda Agha-Soltan have fled Iran in fear for their own lives, including Dr. Arash Hejazi, who attended to Neda after she was shot, and the television journalist who interviewed Caspian Makan after Neda's untimely death.

The $150 Edge-of-Space Camera: MIT Students Beat NASA On Beer-Money Budget

via Jules Crittenden Of course, all this would be pointless if the guys couldn’t find the rig when it landed, so they dropped a prepaid GPS-equipped cellphone inside the box for tracking. Total cost, including duct tape? $148. Launch Two weeks ago, on Sept. 2, at the leisurely post-breakfast hour of 11:45 a.m., the balloon was launched from Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Lee and Yeh took a road trip in order to compensate for the prevailing winds, which could have otherwise taken the balloon out onto the Atlantic, and checked in on the University of Wyoming’s balloon trajectory website to estimate the landing site. Because of spotty cellphone coverage in central Massachusetts, it was important to keep the rig in the center of the state so it could be found upon landing. Light winds meant the guys got lucky and, although the cellphone’s external antenna was buried upon landing, the fix they got as the balloon was coming down was close enough.

Another item on the "Why I no longer do Burning Man" list
Lexica
by Lexica  8-26-2009    1
One of the things that {{Spiritualmonkey}} and I valued about Burning Man, back when we were still doing it, was the emphasis on radical self-reliance . If you needed it, you'd better bring it; if you didn't bring it, you wouldn't have it. There are a number of reasons we no longer go, but the shift away from radical self-reliance is part of it.

Revenge is Sweet - But a Prank is Better!
handleriii
by handleriii  9-3-2008    2
There is a new service "out there" that allows you to send a "TEXT BOMB" - meaning 1,000 text messages every 10 minutes with the message of your choice...like ""Just 9999 reminders that SIZE DOES MATTER!" I think it is geared towards disgruntled employees and jilted lovers, but hey, if your cheating spouse has a cell phone...or her boy/girl friend? ""Only 9999 more reminders that Valtrex is on Blue Light Special!" I could not figure out if you have to pay for this text - bombing experience. It appears to be free. ..and legal.

We'll Never Disconnect
debbyski
by debbyski  7-22-2009    1
"Auto companies are busy creating new crack hits for our self-destructive cravings. Ford is developing a system that would let drivers use phones and music players and surf the Internet with voice commands and audible responses. Sounds like a computerized death machine. But, as our dealers know, we’ll never disconnect."
