POPSWhy Is The Catholic Church Firing Women? "In the last 30 years there’s been a dramatic expansion of the body of teachings to which Catholics must assent wholly to remain in good standing. As Horton pointed out, “They speak a great talk of justice for the world, but in their own church they don’t recognize it.”

POPSVatican will be asked to remove four bishops if they don’t quit
The Bishop of Limerick Dr Donal Murray, who was also an auxiliary bishop in Dublin before being promoted to Limerick, resigned from his position last week. It has emerged that if the four bishops — who say they did no wrong — do not stand down voluntarily on the principle of collective responsibility, Archbishop Martin will petition the Congregation of Bishops in Rome to remove them early in 2010. On Friday, the Irish Primary Principals' Network also wants the four bishops to be accountable for their actions — or inactions — in discharging their child protection responsibilities. Taoiseach Brian Cowen backed Archbishop Martin's stance, saying it was “a time for leadership and accountability” in the Catholic Church. Mr Cowen said: “The resignation of Bishop Murray is a welcome indication that those who are in positions of leadership and responsibility in the Church are facing up to their responsibility in the light of the very clear findings of the Murphy Commission.” Howeve

POPSBishops seek cover-up forgiveness - Bollocks! The Murphy report detailed allegations against a sample 46 priests who served in Dublin between 1975 to 2004 and found several bishops, including Bishop of Limerick Donal Murray who acted inexcusably in one case, mishandled complaints against priests. He is expected to tender his resignation to Pope Benedict in the next few days. Cardinal Sean Brady and Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin will meet the Pontiff in Rome on Friday.

POPSThe real threat to "traditional" marriage: heterosexual couples who don't think the way they're supposed to The money quote: "There is a greater expectation that women will work, men will be more involved with their children, and household duties will be more evenly shared... In essence, straight couples are 'queering' heterosexual marriage... If neither partner conforms to his or her 'unique role,' heterosexual marriage starts to look like its same-sex counterpart and illustrates that those 'unique' gendered roles aren't as unique as the bishops claim they are. If in a heterosexual marriage a man can provide nurturing and emotional sensitivity and a woman can provide leadership and effective decision-making skills, could they not bring these traits to a same-sex marriage?"

POPSEngineered Rabbit Penises Raise Human Hopes Clipped for the headline. No doubt this will be all over the web. How is the Catholic Church on this sort of tamponing, I mean tampering, with nature. Probably for it. Help the population grow beyond the planet's ability to cope.

POPSBishop Tobin, Self Appointed God
Bishop Tobin continues to dip his fingers and toes into the holy waters of the state. Acting as though he was god, he continues to threaten politicians who do not buckle under the pressures of his religious dogma. Not having dominance over those who have not been indoctrinated in the Catholic ideology (which must really piss this guy off) he badgers those who he can badger. Threatening them, that only he and his church can guarantee their ticket into heaven and only if they do his bidding. What total and archaic nonsense. Tobin the Thug probably would be sentencing people to the guillotine if he had been born hundreds of years ago when (in the western hemisphere) church and state were one. Now, I am sure there are intelligent clergy among those in the hierarchy of the Catholic church who believe and teach their flock that religion and state should be separated but apparently Bishop Tobin or should I say Holiest Highness Tobin is NOT ONE OF THEM. He's just another bully in my book.

POPSBack To The Dark Ages, You Dog!
Hold on to your proverbial HATS, Enlightenment is over. According to one Catholic Bishop, it's over or never began. How can a priest ban a parishioner, who helps pay his salary, from a spiritual right within his religion? If I were Patrick, I would turn to an enlightened source of organized spirituality or just use the brain he was born with before it was tarnished with incongruous notions thought up by a pack of authoritarian male homo-sapiens. Religion is what is screwing up the world, in all its eerie, ghostly and spooky forms; it seems to rail against rational thought. This is how they rule. This is how they coerce wars and this is how they enslave the masses. As one escapee from the clutches of irrational thought perpetuated by an organized religion, I can tell you it is far better to be acquainted with logic and reason in this, OH SO MANY QUESTIONS UNANSWERED universe of ours. The freedom to inquiry ones existence, without fear of punishment, is the only way to fly!

POPSWhose God is Allah? But Christian leaders - representing a little under 10% of the population - say Malays have been using the word Allah to refer generally to God for hundreds of years. Christians are now fighting back. An Evangelical church launched a legal action in an attempt to win the right to refer to God as Allah in children's books. The Roman Catholic Church has also gone to court after its newspaper in Malaysia was threatened with the loss of its licence if it continued to use the word. Christians are turning the issue into one about how minorities are treated in Malaysia. The Christian Federation of Malaysia says the country's constitution guarantees freedom of religion, and it's asking whether that can still be meaningful if Christians are denied Bibles which use their own language. So, Allah and God are two different people/concepts, and what about יַהְוֶה ?

POPSChild Rapist and Anti-Catholic Cult Boss Gets 175 Years His stepdaughter, Christhiaon Coie, wasn’t among them but, in an earlier interview with the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Report, said she was raped by Alamo when she was in her teens. “I want to thank for demanding justice when so many others turn a blind eye to so many pathetic cowards who hide behind Bibles, sheets and children,” she said in an E-mail today as she awaited news of Alamo’s sentence. Alamo met and married Coie’s mother, Edith — a name she soon changed to Susan — in 1966 and the couple began Tony Alamo Christian Ministries three years later in California. Followers say they were punished with beatings and food deprivation, and threatened with losing their spouses and children. Among other things, Alamo blamed the Catholic church for communism, Nazism and the two world wars.

POPSTheocrat of the Day We are all influenced by our culture, heritage, and family. It is the lens through which we see the world. Also, we are each individuals, capable of reaching decisions on our own. It seems strange that this representative of the people of Pennsylvania needs to ask permission from the Catholic Church before he votes.
