POPS Ted Kennedy The speculation and manuevering will fire up again after a discreet interval. Joe. Patches. Caroline … not good enough for New York, but this is Massachusetts. Any number of Kennedy third-stringers. All of them have feet of clay, not that was ever an obstacle to Kennedys until recently. Hey, don’t be shy, Deval Patrick. The Kennedys never were. Here’s a great chance to appoint yourself out of that mess in Massachusetts … though re-election might be problematic. Grease it with the Legislature right and maybe they’ll let you appoint yourself. Despite his shameful performance re the Iraq war … when he viciously disparaged a wartime president and sought to undercut a vital national security interest with troops fighting and dying in the field … he remained able to work across the aisle and had significantly better political skills than most in his party. When he called, presidents of both parties picked up the phone. The great tragedy today in the Bay State is that John Kerry,

POPSThe Coronation of King Obama The fanfare with which the president-elect will be inaugurated on Tuesday reminds the BBC’s Katty Kay of the pomp and circumstance adorning the British royals. It’s an shameful way to treat a president.

POPSPalin: Is Kennedy getting 'kid glove' treatment? Unfortunately, there is nothing to take out of context, there is whole context at all, that simply cannot be treated by the media in any other way it's been treated. It must be something essential behind pretty face and what was left after shopping spree to win hearts of ordinary people.

POPSReality Bites The Citgo funding from Chavez was, I think, primarily designed to be a slap in the face for George W. Bush -- "Hey look, we're an 'evil Communist' nation, yet we're helping to keep your poor, whom you obviously care nothing about, warm during the winter." At the same time, Joe Kennedy probably thought he was bridging the philosophical gap between capitalism and communism and working for the common good ... all while shaming Bu$hCo, which was too busy wallowing in oil profits to notice the plight of the poor. If you don't like Republicans, such an arrangement probably looks like a winning strategy.

POPSThe Hilarious Case for Caroline Kennedy Is Governor Paterson looking to appoint a senator or selecting a race horse based on "blood lines?" I can just picture Paterson with his fingers in Caroline's mouth checking to see the condition of her teeth. Oh, and even if Caroline is stupid it won't matter. Her money and fame can attract a top quality staff

POPS Wrongful Hurtfulness Senora Kennedy she is always know the issues. Every morning she always tell me, “Rosa, where is my New York Time paper?” Then she read it before she go to Fifth Avenue for the shopping. When she get back she tell me to put it in the recycle because to save the planet. A lot of it is even worse than that but you’ll have to go read it yourself. Come on, people. Let’s not let Iowahawk get away with mocking Esmeralda or whatever her name is and Caroline Kennedy, because, you know … the Kennedys …

POPSChanging Face of Politics Out with any remnants of the old. Even this name doesn't escape scrutiny. It would be great if the media always decided to be upfront.

POPSIs Caroline Kennedy Ready for the Senate? While I think Ms. Kennedy would make as good a Senator from New York as most others in Congress now, I marvel at the hypocrisy of the MSM. While Gov. Palin was completely UN-qualified to be on the VP slot, Ms. Kennedy, who has never held a public office, IS? And where is all the yapping about "dynasty"? I've always considered her a dignified and classy woman...like her mother; and she has as much qualifications for a Senatorial position as Obama did. However, it has become obvious that Name and the Democratic political machine can get you the Office of your choice.

POPSFormer-President-Senator Bill Clinton (NY-D)??? "This is not an election. This is not a campaign. It's a constituency of one. David Paterson. It's all about what the governor wants to do," said political analyst Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of The Rothenberg Political Report. "Paterson has said he would prefer someone from upstate New York, or a woman or an Hispanic candidate," Rothenberg said. As for some of the more unconventional picks, Rothenberg said Paterson could "try to make a splash with a big name like Robert Kennedy Jr." or a "quirky interesting pick" of someone like Caroline Kennedy, who is not a politician. But some are suggesting the former president should take his wife's seat.

POPSObama: A President Like My Father Caroline Kennedy endorses Barack Obama. I want a president who understands that his responsibility is to articulate a vision and encourage others to achieve it; who holds himself, and those around him, to the highest ethical standards; who appeals to the hopes of those who still believe in the American Dream, and those around the world who still believe in the American ideal; and who can lift our spirits, and make us believe again that our country needs every one of us to get involved.

POPSHillary Clinton Gets Stiffed The Clintons also were not asked about donors to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library. “This would be the biggest leap of faith ever,” the official said. “She’s waiting for the text message like everyone else.” An Obama aide said "absolutely exhaustive research was done on her over the course of the 16 month primary. She was researched more closely than any candidate in history."

POPSNobody Wants To Be On Obama's Ticket McGovern had the same problem- and felt forced to pick Thomas Eagleton, who had to be replaced by Sargen Shriver, A Kennedy apparatchik. * Edwards says he's not interested. * Biden says he's not interested, but might say yes if asked. . * Ditto Kerry. * Governor Tom Strickland of Ohio says he would “absolutely not” join the Obama ticket. * Webb says he's not interested in VP. * Gov Bredesen says he's not interested. * Sen Bayh says he's not interested - but might say yes. At this rate Obama might have to pick Caroline!

POPSObama endorsed by CA Republican Governor's Wife (Maria Shriver) More: "Every single person can come to you and tell you, 'You should vote for this person' or 'You should vote for that person.' `It's not right to speak up. It's not right to speak out,' " Shriver said, her voice echoing through the arena."But this is a moment to have a conversation with yourself, not anyone else. Have a conversation with your own heart. And ask yourself, 'What kind of America do I believe in?' "

POPSThe Kennedy Mystique I am not a big fan of David Brooks, as I find many of his views far too right-wing and conservative for my liking. When I started to read today's NY Times column I was ready for a blast at Kennedy and his endorsement of Obama. But it turned into one of the most positive and lauding commentaries I have read about any politician in a very long time. I hope you will read the entire column, as my clipping is very limited.

POPSJFK's Daughter endorses Barack Obama for President, "A President Like My Father"
Senator Obama is running a dignified and honest campaign. He has spoken eloquently about the role of faith in his life. When it comes to judgment, Barack Obama made the right call on the most important issue of our time by opposing the war in Iraq from the beginning. I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president — not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans.
