Why Google bought reCAPTCHA (you'll never guess this)
egoldstein
by egoldstein  9-18-2009    4
I had no idea that the collective entries people made were self - validating and educating computers on what the letters were...that makes reCAPTCHA about 100x more innovative than i ever realized it to be. For anyone who doesn't know, ReCAPTCHA is the thing you have probably seen many times when you sign up for a new service - when you're asked to enter the scribbled letters in a box.

bruxedo
by bruxedo  5-21-2009
You've seen them all around the web, CAPTCHAs are those distorted images of letters and numbers used to prevent the automated use of websites. They are supposedely random, but sometimes they seem to be "telling you" something; others are just plain ridiculous or humanly impossible to read. Here's a collection of the strangest, most bizarre tests agains spam bots.

Strippers seduce humans in order to circumvent CAPTCHA
Fast T friend
by Fast T friend  11-1-2007
This is a great example of a problem that is too difficult for current AI methods and depends on "real" intelligence to solve. Humans are plugged into the workflow to solve the problem just as you'd add another service to a pipeline. The innovative spirit is alive and well with spammers.
