POPSObama Planning a Legal Fudge for TARP? According to Reuters, “the administration was looking at setting up a special purpose vehicle to be a conduit for money…that would get around restrictions on executive bank pay.” There’s an irony here. Didn’t “special purpose vehicles” help carry us into this credit crisis to begin with? (Answer: They did! And into the Enron debacle, too.) Besides, isn’t it unseemly for the executive to skulk around the intent of a duly passed law? If the law is flawed, shouldn’t the administration persuade Congress to change it?

Vice President Dick Cheney, a vocal defender of the war, came to Tulsa to cam paign and raise money for Coburn. During that visit, Cheney criticized Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry for flip-flopping on the war by voting in the Senate to go to war but voting against adequate funding for the troops. Still, his comments at the town hall meeting may be the first time he has ever suggested the war was a mistake. Coburn's comment came less than a week after he returned from his second trip to Iraq since entering the Senate.

Light winds meant the guys got lucky and, although the cellphone’s external antenna was buried upon landing, the fix they got as the balloon was coming down was close enough.

POPSOklahoma cop pulls ambulance over; puts EMT in chokehold while patient lingers The trooper wanted to cite the driver of the ambulance but the other paramedic insisted on driving the patient to the hospital first, then allowing the driver to be cited. The trooper then told the second paramedic that he was under arrest for obstruction and attempted to grab the paramedic’s arm. But the paramedic reminded him that it was a felony to assault a paramedic in the line of duty, especially when he needs to transport a patient to the hospital. They struggled briefly before the paramedic was able to hop in the back of the ambulance to tend to the patient. The officers finally allowed the paramedics to transport the patient to the hospital where they planned to arrest the paramedic. Police say they have their own version of the truth that was recorded by their dashboard cam. Of course they are refusing to release it.
