POPSAlan comes to Stephen's rescue Stephen Fry is one of the wittiest people I have ever come across ~ it's sad to see that even a celebrity such as him can be hard hit by depression.

POPSLadies of Arlington Never Miss Final Salute I HOPE YOU CAN TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS. This story pulled at my heart strings. What a wonderful organization with such great and meaningful values to devote their time and to show respect to our fallen solders. The Arlington Ladies stand a silent vigil at funerals attended by dozens of mourners and at funerals where a Soldier has no next of kin - no friends present to render a final salute. In fact, that is the very reason they attend funerals. Since 1973, the Arlington Ladies have ensured that no Soldier - old or young - is ever buried alone.

POPSBye for a While Clipon couldn't resist this clip... More than that though, I really am just getting more and more frustrated with my connection on clipmarks. It is still very temperamental and popping, comments etc just aren't getting through. I read the clipmarks blog - it seems they are planning an overhaul. So, I might just have to give this a break for a while and hopefully it will sort itself out. I can't seem to find out what the problem is with my connection. It is not happening with amplify. So see you at some stage in the future. Thanks for all your great posts, fun interactions et al.

POPSBye Bye Birdie: Famed Fossil Loses Avian Perch just one of several species of feathered dinosaurs preceding modern birds. It may not even be a direct ancestor. Such revisions make paleontology a science of second thoughts. Reconstructing the history of life, researchers thrash out theories of ancestry, behavior and biomechanics guided by hints from ancient bones. Archaeopteryx -- combining the feathers, wishbone and wings of a bird with the reptilian tail, teeth and claws of a dinosaur -- had already become a question mark. Newly discovered fossils have prompted scientists to revamp their assumptions about archaeopteryx's distinguishing features over the last decade. A cornucopia of fossil finds in China demonstrated that feathers coated many dinosaur species, not just birds. The newest finding, though, demonstrates that our understanding of even well-studied fossils like archaeopteryx -- scrutinized, measured, modeled for 150 years -- can still be upended.

POPSGood-Bye Senator Kennedy Some of this stuff is over the top, but I like it anyway. Kind of marks the end of an era and, truthfully I'll miss him. And his brothers. I also hope that people use his memory as an inspiration to get going, rather than as an excuse to give up.

POPSWhy do we hate Good-byes? I see you seeing me and I exist. I see you seeing me see you and we exist. Mutual re-cognition is the glue that holds us together, not merely as friends, but as individual selves. Good-byes are poignant preludes to the leave-takings and withdrawals that deprive our psyches of the sustenance they need to maintain our selfhood. As such, every good-bye is a premonition of disintegration, a foretaste of death, another step on the path to "adieu." Have you noticed that old folks tell the same stories over and over? They are desperately trying to shore up identities that, because of a paucity of recognition, are breaking down. By telling us their stories, they are staving off the disintegration of self, one day at a time. You can't really blame them--their struggle is at once heroic and tragic. One day, you too may need a comprehending ear to offset the recognition deficiencies that plague old-age... <<

POPSBye, Bye Babylon Looking back over six years of good intentions, tragic errors, generosity, arrogance, partisan vituperation, painful deaths and ultimate vindication, two things strike me: the ever-resisted lesson that human affairs are more complex than academic theories claim, and the simple truth that most human beings prefer a measure of freedom to immeasurable repression. Now the symbolism of our troops withdrawing from Iraq's cities is richer than Washington grasps. Mesopotamia created urban culture: Ur, Babylon, Nineveh and countless lesser-known sites are where humans first worked out ways to live together in close quarters in large numbers. The coming wave of terror will strike cities that make Baghdad seem a youngster. The "cradle of civilization" is rising from the grave again. Yes, sectarianism, old grievances and the greed for power may deliver future crises -- even an eventual civil war.

POPS Everyone Wave Buh Bye To Syed! Syed's father said, “He’s not guilty of any crimes in the eyes of Allah. He’s guilty of U.S. laws.” Well then, there you go. Ahmed will be sentenced after the Aug. 3 trial of his alleged co-conspirator, Ehsanul Islam Sadequee of Roswell. “I’ve always thought this was a close case,” Ahmed’s lawyer, Jack Martin, said. “Perhaps this case all along was about what is the appropriate sentence.” Ahmed already has spent more than three years in solitary confinement at the U.S. penitentiary here awaiting trial. He now faces up to 15 years in federal prison.

POPSCanadian Radio Skits Obama Bump Off These people view Obama as a ":negro". Wrong. He has more Arab slave-trading blood than any "negro". Trouble is he alone is not the problem. Bumping this Kenyan born imposter off would only bring other boobs to the forefront. Just steel ourselves to wait out 3 some years to get these marxists out of power and begin to rebuild the nation they have so attempted to destroy.
