POPSCongressional Democrats do talk & spend period It would take almost $16,000 more from every household in America to balance the budget just this year. To grab this money from top income-bracket earners, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), we’d have to hike their tax rates to between 80% and 90%. The CBO noted earlier this year in its budget report that “ igh tax rates would slow the growth of the economy, making the spending burden harder to bear.” Like kids, Congress can break anything if they mess with it long enough.

POPS"Smart People" Decided Obama's Budget You almost certainly intended this reporting to paint the bold new Obama team as principled and sublimely competent architects of a fair new society. It's darkly amusing to me that you can't see that you've instead confirmed them to be worse than the worst caricature of spendthrift Democrats that any fiscal conservative of either party has ever dreamed up. (The balance of the article is equally terrifying, for essentially the same reasons. E.g.: " balanced budget is not something that is fiscally conceivable without fundamentally just deconstructing the federal government" and "Obama’s budget assumes that, even after the recession passes, the government can live with deficits indefinitely." It's a tedious tale of unrelenting irresponsibility, the proud internal newsletter of an asylum written after the inmates have taken over.)

POPSObama to Adopt Neocon's "Multiple War" Policy Blueprint
The first clips reveal Obama's new policy, to which Robert Gates gives evidence, and the American Enterprise Institute (arm of the Israeli Lobby) confidently announces (as if they run the Obama administration). This was the exact blueprint of the neonconservative think tank, Project for a New American Century --who ran the Bush administration's foreign policy from within--and is proven by their own infamous document (clip 3) called Rebuilding America's Defenses, which the policy parrots: LARGE WARS...the United States must retain sufficient forces able to rapidly deploy and win multiple simultaneous large-scale wars and also to be able to respond to unanticipated contingencies in regions where it does not maintain forward-based forces. This resembles the “two-war” standard that has been the basis of U.S. force planning over the past decade. Yet this standard needs to be updated to account for new realities and potential new conflicts

POPS "Stimulus" http://www.readthestimulus.org/ Just like TARP, the stimulus bill looks more like a bailout; not of big banks, but of irresponsible states. The stimulus bill contains over $200 billion for state and local governments. The politicians tell us this bailout will prevent state governments from having to raise taxes to make up for their shortfalls. Really? Who’s going to pay the taxes to finance the new government spending in the stimulus plan? The same hardworking families who would have to pay for the state shortfalls! New government spending–whether at the federal, state or local levels–is paid for by taxpayers. Period. Take a look at the stimulus bill and decide for yourself whether it provides the necessary economic boost we need or if it is politics as usual, Washington-style. POPS7 Financial Tips from the Great Depression Anyone hear of the WWII Victory Garden? Now seems like a great time to start onw. Plan low-tech outings with family and friends. Mass transit really does work, if not a little inconvenient. How big of a house and car do you really need? Our grandparents/great-grandparents survived the depression by cutting back on a lot of things, and it can very humbling to do so, and can we. Take this time to learn what you really NEED in your life. Simple is quite often more satisfying, it is just a matter of attitude.

POPSPalin's Lawyer: Monegan Fired for 'Rogue Mentality'
The filing includes a July 17, 2007, e-mail Palin sent to Monegan in which Palin complains that a proposal to restrict gun sales to people who make death threats would still allow her former brother-in-law, Trooper Mike Wooten, to carry a gun, despite the Palin family allegation that Wooten once threatened to kill the governor's father. "Amazing," the e-mail says. "And he's still a trooper, and he still carries a gun, and he still tells anyone who will listen that he will 'never work for that b----' (me) because he has such anger and distain towards my family." The papers add that even if Palin had asked the public safety commissioner to fire a state trooper "based on documented acts of violence and other improper conduct," that wouldn't violate the state Ethics Act "because the public generally shares a common interest in public order and safety." Monegan's attorney didn't immediately return a call for comment. September 15th, 2008 06:40 PM

POPS PolitiFact::Clinton NIH Funding Claim::False NIH funding is up under Bush At a Democratic debate in Philadelphia, Sen. Hillary Clinton was asked what she would do as president to fight cancer. As part of her answer, she said, "It's just outrageous that under President Bush, the National Institutes of Health have been basically decreased in funding. We are on the brink of so many medical breakthroughs, and I will once again fund that research." Her claim about the funding of NIH is not accurate, no matter how you slice the numbers. Regardless of which years you choose to compare, or whether the numbers are adjusted for inflation, funding went up.
