The Tibetan Book of the Dead
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  11-6-2009
Transference is that period of transition between one life and the next that occurs just before, during, and after death. The video discussions greatly help convey the intent and meaning of the book since they are in terms more easily understood by the western world. You can access the video by clicking links that will appear along the left side of the pages as you read through the book.

Tough Teachings to Ease the Mind
Lexica
by Lexica  9-22-2009
This reminds me of something Cheri Huber has said: "Depression is the greatest ally a person can have in the pursuit of ending suffering. Your best spiritual friend." At first glance, it's one of those "you MUST be kidding" things. But if you look deeper, it's true. Somebody who isn't depressed, who has just the normal level of discontent and dissatisfaction, can muddle along for years without it ever getting "bad enough" to compel them to do something. A person with depression doesn't have that luxury: either I figure out how to not suffer this way, or I kill myself.

Tummo Yoga.
ofcapri
by ofcapri  8-31-2009    1
In common currency Tummo is related to the description of intense sensations of body heat, that are held to be a partial effect of the practice of Tummo-meditation. Tummo is taught as one part of the six yogas of Naropa. Stories and eyewitness accounts abound of yogi practitioners being able to generate sufficient heat to dry wet sheets draped around their naked bodies while sitting outside in the freezing cold, not just once, but multiple times. These observations have also been discussed in medical articles (Ding-E Young and Taylor, 1998).

Fed Up God "To Turn Buddha"
foxyarse
by foxyarse  8-20-2009
Asked whether He felt guilty for abandoning his followers who have ridgedly followed the ancient text book 'The Bible' for centuries, God replied sheepishly "I never finished reading it if I'm honest...It got a bit boring half way through so I just skipped to the end. I prefered Dan Brown's 'The Da Vinci Code'...that was pretty cool". Whether God's decision to move on will destroy Christianity remains to be seen, but in these initial stages the Vatican, at least, seems calm. A spokesman said "To be honest, we are pretty sure we can blag our way through this, we've been making shit up to justify our attrocities for years..."

Hidden Gobi Desert relics found
cakebelly
by cakebelly  8-4-2009    1
more: The current Austrian-Mongolian treasure hunt team found two more boxes. Mr Eisenriegler told the BBC World Service they were filled with "the most amazing Buddhist art objects". "It is of tremendous value for Mongolian culture because Buddhism was almost extinct in the Communist times, especially in the 1930s. "I'm totally exhausted right now but I'm also totally impressed with what I've seen." The latest finds will be put on show at the Danzan Ravjaa Museum in Sainshand, 400km (250 miles) south of the Mongolian capital, Ulan Bator. About 20 boxes remain hidden in the desert.

Brad Warner: "Enlightenment experiences are crap."
Lexica
by Lexica  7-30-2009
More: I have no problem with people making money, even if they're Buddhist teachers and even if they're earning their money by being Buddhist teachers. What I have a problem with is the way Buddhism is being turned into a commodity. Enlightenment is being sold like mouth wash. The girls aren't running after you? Try Enlightenment and you'll never be without a date on Saturday night! …It's not that hard to induce a whizz-bang experience through hypnotism or other means. If you mesmerize someone and feed their ego with the notion that they are Enlightened and that they can speak with the voice of God Himself, that person will have a pretty amazing time. If a genuine Zen Master certifies that experience as Kensho that seals the deal. Also having paid lots of money for the experience makes the person far less likely to want to admit it might not have been all it was supposed to be. This is so fucking obvious I don't even know why anyone has to point it out.
