POPSAttack on Ft. Hood, Nov. 5th Guy Fawkes Day Interesting timing: "Remember, remember the 5th of November" . Psy-op staged? Virginia Tech graduate? What exactly was this conspiracy to kill all about? Growing list of direct news sources with some commentary at CLG, which military and government sites are reading avidly. Surveillance video of suspect before shooting here.

POPSToads no easy prey for death adders Mongrels. I don't like snakes greatly but they are a very important part of the ecology and these bloody things are upsetting that balance. Black snakes also hunt them and die which means they can't keep the browns ( mad buggars) under control.

POPS Recipe for rescuing our reefs Is too little being done to halt human activities harming fragile marine ecosystems? Are efforts to save coral reefs being overshadowed by problems on land? Or are you optimistic that scientists, conservationists and politicians will find a way to save the colourful underwater worlds?

POPSGordon Brown Has Been Given A Collection Of 25 Classic American Films On DVD The Prime Minister's reaction to getting DVDs is not known. Mr Brown is not noted for his love of cinema, although he once claimed on a trip to India that he was an admirer of Bollywood. As revealed by yesterday's Standard, the Browns showered gifts on the Obama children too, using the occasion to promote British exports. Sarah Brown gave Sasha and Malia Obama an outfit each from Topshop, which has just opened its first American store in New York. She also picked six children's books by British authors which are shortly to be published in America. In return, the Obamas gave the Browns two models of the presidential helicopter, Marine One, to take home to sons Fraser and John.

POPSArtists stage street scenes to lurk in Google maps Like many first-time Street View users, Kinsley and Hewlett, then roommates, typed in their address and found their house. Kinsley and Hewlett soon found themselves discussing surveillance and virtual reality, and began considering how they might explore those issues and Street View through art. "But instead of dwelling on the darker undertones of these issues, we began to think about ways of playing with the system," Kinsley said in an e-mail interview from Iceland, where he is participating in an artist residency. The "Street With a View" project was his master of fine arts thesis project at Carnegie Mellon University. "We were interested in interjecting something staged, something fictional, into Street View and playing with - and subtly questioning - the notion of reality in something that we perceive as a factual representation of our world," said Kinsley, 26.

POPSElection may hold surprise punch But pollsters and political scientists say concern about a Bradley effect – some call it a Wilder effect or a Dinkins effect, and plenty call it a theory in search of data – is misplaced. It obscures what they argue is the more important point: there are plenty of ways that race complicates polling. Considered alone or in combination, these factors could produce an unforeseen Obama landslide with surprise victories in the South, a stunningly large Obama loss, or a recount-thin margin. In a year that has already turned expectations upside down, it is hard to completely reassure the fretters.

POPSRemembering Charlie Brown Entertaining and humourous article that pays homage to Charles Schulz's Charlie Brown. My favorite :) Like Groening, I too used to spend hours drawing Peanuts cartoons because they "looked" easy. I loved Snoopy! I wanted a beagle before I knew that they were crazy dogs. I owned a Snoopy snowcone machine - which they re-released and I saw at Urban Outfitters. I had thing for Schroeder. Thanks a million Charles Schulz!

POPSSan Francisco SoMa Sweeps of Homeless individuals and families.
STARTS ON FRI - Oct 4, 2007-6am -bring videos to witness: A clear picture of abuse of power. SFPD will be citing and/or arresting homeless people (and taking their property away) who DO NOT voluntary accept services ( like shelter housing ). SF does NOT have many safe shelters or SRO's (Single Room Occupancies Rooms) so many homeless sleep in small groups to be safer on streets and panhandle for food. Some tax payer funded shelters serve really bad food (low calories, tiny portions, undercooked) so they panhandle so they can eat a $3.75 breakfast (2 eggs, toast, hash browns and bacon) at cheap restaurants on 6th & Mission Streets. It's cheaper to build safe permanent housing than it is to harass & violate Constitutional Rights of citizens who happen to be homeless because it keeps them safer than they'd be if they went to tax payer funded shelters which have had several potentially preventable deaths and suicides this year. DIGUSTING ABUSE OF POWER & WASTE OF SCARCE RES

POPSHelp Save Ed and Elaine Brown! The Browns narrowly avoided assassination earlier this week when a neighbor out walking his dog discovered an FBI SWAT team camped out in the woods surrounding their house with enough ordnance to conduct a small war. Visit the linked site and help spread the word!

POPSTax Dodgers Taunt Police and SWAT This is outrageous! These people are just doing a big publicity stunt to avoid hard time. Law enforcement should have never let this situation escalate to this point. I hope once they are finally arrested, they get more charges. If they somehow get out of jail time, that's going to send a really bad message.
