POPSThey Have to be Off The Stripper’s Pole By 11:30 on School Nights
That makes total sense. The work permit shows that they are qualified. The requirement to be off the pole by 11:30pm on school nights so they can get a good rest before they go off to learn their ABCs in the morning. What about on weekends? No school the next day? Dance all night! This is frightening. With the increase in teenage runaways and the issue with the other pathetic Rhode Island law " prostitution is legal as long as it’s done inside of a building in Rhode Island. Yes, those buildings with the word “SPA” on it aren’t anything like the Canyon Ranch Spa. They are basically human trafficking centers. This whole minors dancing legally situation was only discovered quite accidentally according to an article in The Providence Journal: Providence police recently discovered that teen job opportunities extend into the local adult entertainment world while they were investigating a 16-year-old runaway from Boston. The girl told detectives that she worked at Cheaters strip

POPSNo Thanks, I'll Hold It
The Massachusetts Family Institute has begun running radio ads warning mothers that they may no longer want to let their young daughters use public restrooms because “Beacon Hill is about to make it legal for men to use women’s bathrooms.” Kris Mineau, president of the institute, said the bill would open up all gyms, showers, restrooms and shelters to anyone of any gender because there’s no clear way to determine if an individual is transgender. “There’s no restrictions in this bill as to what opposite gender can use the facility. We’re not going to be able to police this,” he said. “There’s no pre-requirement of surgery or appearance or anything else.” Mineau said the bill would make it easier for the thousands of registered sex offenders in Massachusetts to gain access to children and women in public restrooms by claiming they are transgender. I feel bad for “Ethan,” but it’s bad enough as it is having to send your daughter into the women’s room at the mall . . .

POPSSurprise!... Dems Push For Illegal Immigrants To Have Voting Rights Most “unfair,” she argues, is their exclusion from our democratic process. “They don’t feel that they have anyone to represent them . It’s because they’re not part of the democracy,” Richardson told fellow Democrats. What are these people trying to do? Put ACORN out of business? HT jules crittenden

POPSBoston Legal's Depiction of the Supreme Court... Was right on target. When I first saw this clip, I couldn't believe how wonderful it would be if this was not fiction. Well, it seems the Supreme Court may not be as politically polarized as I thought but just one more Republican justice and it will be. When that happens a case like this will only be a fairytale. I can't embed it any longer but you can view it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqlGoxfAkuU See John Stewart's hilarious view of Scalia and the Supreme Court. POPSWe’ll Marry Each Other as Often as Needed I wish I could have clipped the entire article. So I just included as much as I could. I urge you to read the entire piece, as it is absolutely beautiful, humourous, touching and honest. It is entirely apropos at this time, as next week, August 31, my partner Arnold and I are getting legally married here in our home city of Montreal. Same-sex marriage became legal in Canada in 2005. We waited until this year, because Sept 10th shall mark the 25th anniversary of our original unification ceremony we celebrated in Boston in 1983. What better way to renew our vows than to do so while finally getting married legally, in a country that recognizes and honours our relationship?

POPSSupreme Court Ruling Inspires New TV Series :) Here is some of what is set to air during the presidential elections in the fall of 2008. Check your local listings. Fast-paced and wildly comedic, the series confronts social issues, while it indoctrinates the viewers with correct progressive messages. Three major American networks are about to launch new legal drama series that feature lawyers litigating in defense of armed Muslim bystanders picked up on the battlefield and wrongly accused of being enemy combatants. Quick spin-offs of such successful shows as Law & Order and Boston Legal are in the works at ABC and NBC, while CBS promises an original sitcom about a lawyer who not only defends accused terrorists, but is himself a terrorist.

POPSOn this day 1770: The Boston Massacre
"The Boston Massacre" refers to an incident involving the deaths of five civilians at the hands of British troops on 5 March 1770. In the subsequent trial of the soldiers, their lawyer, John Adams, argued that if they were endangered by the mob they had the legal right to fight back, and so were innocent. If they were provoked but not endangered, they were at most guilty of manslaughter. The jury agreed and acquitted six of them. Two were found guilty of murder because there was overwhelming evidence that they fired directly into the crowd. However, Adams used a loophole in British Common Law and by proving to the judge that they could read by having them read from the Bible their crime was reduced to manslaughter. Two were found guilty of manslaughter and punished by branding on their thumbs. The jury's decisions suggest that they believed the soldiers had felt threatened by the crowd. Patrick Carr, the fifth victim, corroborated this with a deathbed testimony delivered to his doctor.

POPSBoston police wants permission to search without a warrant Davis said the program doesn't aim to incarcerate people. He said police won't search the homes of teenagers suspected in shootings or homicides whom investigators are trying to prosecute. If officers find drugs, it will be up to them whether to make an arrest. But police said modest amounts of drugs like marijuana will simply be confiscated. I think parents are able to search their own kids rooms without the help of Boston police.

POPS Boston Police Search Teenagers Bedrooms For Weapons
WHAT DO YOU THINK Boston police are launching a program that will call upon parents in high-crime neighborhoods to allow detectives into their homes, without a warrant, to search for guns in their children's bedrooms. This is already raising questions about civil liberties, based on the premise that parents are so fearful of gun violence and the possibility that their own teenagers will be caught up in it that they will turn to police for help, even in their own households. In the next two weeks, Boston police officers who are assigned to schools will begin going to homes where they believe teenagers might have guns. The officers will travel in groups of three, dress in plainclothes to avoid attracting negative attention, and ask the teenager's parent or legal guardian for permission to search. If the parents say no, police said, the officers will leave. They will not charge the teenager with unlawful gun possession, unless the firearm is linked to a shooting or ho

POPSWho is Yusuf al-Qaradawi ? Portrayed as moderate (unsuccessfully). Supporter/co-director huge, controversial mosque taking over wide established Boston neighborhood. Remember, The Muslim Brotherhood are the ROOT of contemporary terrorism. The grand mufti of Jerusalem in the 30's,his personal associations with Hitler and his officers, their actions against the Jews together, before WWII and Israel. Arafat was his pupil. Look this stuff up. This guy is now issuing the call, for all good Muslims to come to the aid of their mullahs.

POPSSame-Sex Marriage Continues to Gain Support Support for same-sex marriage is growing in leaps and bounds must to the dismay of the right-wing conservative branch of the Republican party as well as the religious right. Just a few years ago, the very thought of same-sex marriage was nothing more than the punchline to a bad joke. But little by little over the past several years, people have begun to realize that gay people are just like everyone else. We want love in our lives; secure family life, and legal recognition of our personal choices. When once they laughed, now they agree.

POPSS&M Death Raises Legal Questions I'm all for consenting sex between two adults but on a personal note, I've never understood this sort of sex. I'm a gentle loving soul, who gets turned on by cuddling *LOL* and even people who enjoy "rough" sex kinda leave me bewildered. Having said that, there was an interesting question in the clip. Since he consented to this sort of sex play, can the other person be held responsible for his death?

POPSHempfest '07 Boston: Leaders say smoke, kids get busted The Boston Herald today reports that the geezers at the head of Boston's "pot parade" incited kids to get blazed on Boston Common. Some of my Emmanuel College journalism students said they planned to attend. (Lousy, wet weather gave way to sunshine later in the day. I hope my students made it, and took pictures.)

POPSBest Show on TV, Ever!!!
When the Abu Ghraib torture thing surfaced and it was revealed that our government participated in rendition, a practice where we kidnap people and turn them over to regimes who specialize in torture, I was sure then the American people would be heard from. We stood mute. Then came the news that we jailed thousands of so-called terrorists suspects, locked them up without the right to a trial or even the right to confront their accusers. It's been discovered the executive branch has been conducting massive, illegal, domestic surveillance on its own citizens. You and me. And I at least consoled myself that finally, finally the American people will have had enough. What I'm most sick and tired of is how every time somebody disagrees with how the government is running things, he or she is labelled unAmerican. I object to government abusing its power to squash the constitutional freedoms of its citizenry. And, God forbid, anybody challenge it. They're smeared as being a heretic

POPSHas This Government Lost Its Heart Completely? We constantly hear from this administration that we support our troops. As a matter of fact they claim that any criticism against the war or the president's handling of it, is tantamount to not supporting our troops and unpatriotic. But now we hear that the immigrant wife of one of the soldiers missing and feared dead in Iraq is being threatened with deportation even though her husband has applied for a green card for her. Wouldn't showing some compassion and making an exception to the strict rules in this woman's case be in a very real sense, supporting our troops with action and not just empty words?

POPSEx-gay - Boston Legal - excellent scene/speech Intelligent speech and examples. We need more such eloquent and elegant examples that is intelligent enough to make even the most prejudice at least notice the intellectual embarassment in their position. A good way of fighting prejudice is to illustrate the built-in lack of applied intelligence and wisdom, to emphasise that the pride one can build as a modern human being involves truly embracing the value foundation of the human rights, individual freedom and tolerance. And also that wisdom has a strong element of tolerance in it.

POPSDr blogs own malpractice trial, loses Pediatrician Robert Lindeman started an anonymous blog, "drfleablog", where he talked about pediatrics issues. He was sued for failing to diagnose diabetes in a little boy who eventually died from it. In his blog, he would talk about the malpractice suit and make fun of the plaintiffs and the jury. Since he knew that malpractice cases hinge on what juries think of the doctor's moral character, the revelation that he was the author of the blog meant that his asshole nature would be exposed to the jury and his case would be sunk.
